Life magic is hard to pin down, because there isn't a central guild that is dedicated to the raw practice and history of Life magic. The Empaths would tenuously qualify, except they have spent as much effort censoring their past as they have writing it down. We can trace Life magic practice to the {{PRel|Imperial Healers Guild}}, which precedes the {{PRel|Imperial Guild of Moon Mages}} by some centuries, but it's reasonable to believe that the Empathic talent existed long before the healers gathered. This is a largely unsatisfactory answer, and perhaps someone knows better, but the Empaths have been excellent at wiping away things they don't want to talk about.

Arcane magic comes to us from prehistory. The mythic history of {{PRel|Necromancy}} suggests that one of the first elves, a son of {{PRel|Celestidhl|Mother}} and {{PRel|Keloryon|Father}} now referred to as the {{PRel|Fallen Prince}}, invented it. Whether this is true or not is a matter of wild speculation, as the Fallen Prince has not been seen in recorded history. On less necromantic ends, the first sorcerers of known history originate from the Warrior Mages, who mixed manas to produce the famous flames of many colors -- culminating, dreadfully, with blackfire.

However, it's reasonable to believe sorcery is almost as old as magic itself. Sorcery requires nothing more from the magician than a certain amount of emotional derangement and willfulness. While the elementalists produced the first effective use of Arcane magic, it's likely that experiments were occurring long before that landmark.
