Yeah, this isn't surprising at all. Once you get past around 250 ranks, the odds of being killed (or killing) quickly begin to escalate at an alarming rate, and with our current system there's not much that can be done about it. By 500 ranks, it's extremely nasty. By 1000 ranks, your fate is pretty much controlled by the random if you are anywhere near a true challenge.
