The primary focus of the Trader guild is as a merchant class. I'm not sure that's changing any time soon. Yes, there may be the occasional release that affect something other than your ability to make money, but those will be few and far between.

Traders are not a combat guild, nor are they a survival guild. That's not "outdated", that's current.
