Hey pal, check the main page ;) I need your help. Rawb 03-14-2006 10:45AM EST

Categories

I think most of the categories you listed are good ideas. The following are definitely needed:

  • Category:Gorbesh War
  • Category:Sorrow War
  • Category:Outcast Wars
  • Category:Pirate Events

I'm a little leery about some of them because of issues with overlap (Mirror Wraith Prophesy was, technically, an MM event, but it involved everybody. Similarly, the pirates stuff is mostly a Qi thing, but it has spilled over into every province):

  • Category:Regional Events
  • Category:Guild Events
  • Category:Clan Events

Finally, I think some things are fine so long as we set some standards for what does/doesn't go into them:

  • Category:Major GMPCs
  • Category:Before Lanival (I don't like this category very much, actually)

I've already begun using the GMPCs category as you described, but there remain some pages I have not yet categorized according to this scheme.

Also, I've created a few fairly broad categories that you may find useful:

  • Category:Alive (for presently active or potentially active characters)
  • Category:Dead (for characters for which there is no reasonable expectation they will ever be in the previous category)
  • Category:Ferdahl (ruler of Ilithi)
  • Category:Emperor (ruler of the Seven Starred Empire)
  • Category:Theren (family)
  • Category:Crowther (family)
  • Category:Braun (family)

For families, the standard I have been using is that there need to be roughly four or more prominent members of the family to get a category. Some families (eg Braun) don't have that many in the Wiki yet because I haven't yet added them. I've also added families as subcategories to the relevant race. This is perfect, I agree!"

I'd be interested to hear what you think about these ideas/actions, particularly some of the concerns I mention with Regional, Guild, and Clan events. I'm not opposed to making those categories, but I think we need to be careful in setting guidelines for how they are used. the best way we can set guidlines here I think is to apply them carefully and set a good example. A written set would help--Pirates.
