It's worded the way it is because you can also have things made from the gemstone which complicates things from a message standpoint. Essentially you have the following three scenarios, none of which can use quite the same messaging, which is why we end up with a semiawkward "Everything goes at once" message to sum them up. 1) Free standing gems (a yavasite). 2) An item with a gem in it (a helm set with a yavasite). 3) An item crafted from the gem (a yavasite broach).
