Tuesday Tidings - 59 - Xala'shar (Part 2) · on 04/06/2021 07:50 115
Happy Tuesday, Adventurers!

The remaining Xala'shar warriors (non-casters), commonly referred to as "Tier 4" (overseers, shredders, and archers) as well as the slayers, have had their special attacks reviewed and their damage adjusted. Their specials still have a bite, but they shouldn't end you in just a hit or two.

A brief overview:

  • Overseers do an apparition that can't be parried or shield blocked, only evaded. Failure to evade results in a spirit hit that respects Cleric's Soul Shield spell.
  • Shredders do a focused attack to a leg or arm (over time these add up and will need to be healed/herbed). Can be evaded, parried or shield blocked.
  • Slayers do an AoE porcupine thing -- bone spikes go flying out in an attempt to impale anyone/anything at melee/pole range -- there's also a balance hit that increases with greater success of the attack. This can be evaded, parried or shield blocked.
  • Archers do a simultaneous double attack -- their tentacles slap wildly at the target (may do some damage) with an aim towards disarming them -- either knocking the weapon or shield to their feet. Shield, evasion and parry all count. The current attack counts the disarmed defense so damage will be less, but it makes the victim more vulnerable to others until the disarmed item is recovered to count for defenses again.

As noted in a previous post, the treasure settings of these warrior Xala'shar were reviewed as part of these adjustments and updated to be in line with current standards. Thralls and slayers went up, the rest went down. Many typos were fixed (including shield blocking a special!), and some messaging was tweaked where necessary. If you notice anything odd, please BUG it -- these are very elaborate creatures! The caster Xala'shar are something I'll be looking at in the future -- they shouldn't be as involved as the warrior overhauls were, but they do need a new spell since an old one they were meant to cast didn't make the X3 transition.

Big thanks to Paklin for QC'ing these updates! These changes are live everywhere now.
