With very few exceptions, everyone on Elanthia could take up any guild's supernatural power if they were given the opportunity. The adventurers are not special because they're superhuman, but because they won the lottery. They transcended serfdom in some fashion and gained the precious social mobility to join a guild (or evil necro-cult).

Though it's certainly fitting and reasonable that they then describe themselves as inherently superior, destined, magically gifted, and so on.
