If you're referring to Markat, the implication is meant to be that he's using some kind of anti-aging magic and is likely older than the boyish 20-something he outwardly appears to be.

This isn't directly related to the Descent or Transcendence, though the Philosophers undoubtly consider it a stepping stone toward real immortality. It's something that Necromancers have been established as being able to do pretty early on.
