| Anyone can partake in ingot smelting of all metal types. Ingot smelting only requires knowledge of the chemical properties of the substance. The final quality reflects your success at evenly mixing the metals without introducing contamination. Player knowledge will be required from the standpoint of "why do I want to put magic metal into my weapon, in what quantities and where to acquire it from".
Magic metal is perhaps a bit misleading. It is metal with both physical and magical properties. Enchantment difficulty, duration and potency are some of the properties likely to be affected by the presence of these metals. Just having magic metal in your axe won't allow it to do fire damage or other magical feats. In fact, the magic metal will generally not have good physical properties so special attention will have to be given to the ratios you use. | |
