Cloaked figures walk beneath the Eyes of the Blind bearing many rolls of parchment in their bags. In the hours before the sun's rise they visit each bulletin board, inn, and tavern in all of the major cities of the mainland. In each place they leave one of the parchments in a prominent place. Some of them are outright discarded as trash, but the ones that are found and read say the following:
-- For those of you who did not have the time to attend the Philosophers' meeting in Dirge, or who were too afraid or embarrassed to be seen there, I offer you this short summary. Written below are some of the lesser known details that were shared. By now I expect you have read the First Land Herald's report of the raid on the fortress and know about the vials of potion that were used to undo Ciriasa's transformation into a Maelshyvean vessel. What you were not told in that report is where those vials came from. The potion was created by a Demon Hunter belonging to an organization known as the Philosophers of the Knife. This man discovered a heinous plot set in motion by Maelshyve's cult that involved the corruption of human women into vessels through which Maelshyve would be able to physically manifest upon our world. If the Swamp Demon's plan were to succeed, all living beings and the very structure of our plane of existence would be threatened. Fortunately for all of us the Demon Hunter is a very talented individual. He was able to capture a few of these budding vessels and devise an arcane-alchemical potion that could undo the demonic transformation they were undergoing. When he learned of the Anduwen Watch's planned raid upon Maelshyve's fortress he saw both a cause for worry, and an opportunity. The Demon Hunter ultimately delivered his potion into the hands of the raiders and instructed them on it use. It was only partially completed, he warned, and so would only be truly effective against vessels that were nearly completely transformed into Maelshyve's foul visage. He also delivered his potion to his fellow Philosophers who he trusted to help halt this demonic incursion. Armed with this new potent weapon against the demonic, the raiders and Philosophers momentarily looked past their differences and worked together to put a stop to Maelshyve's plan. They fought together against beasts of shadow and fire, and against Perverse cultists who sought to usher their demonic mistress into our world for their own twisted gain. They were successful. Working together they faced against Ciriasa - a woman who was almost Maelshyve herself - and undid the corruption that twisted her human form. Unfortunately Ciriasa's soul was lost from this world when she was killed in the chaos, as well as the souls of the many dozens of other women-turned-vessels that were purged during the raid. Some people may wish to hide the cooperation that took place between the Philosophers and the raiders that risked their lives to combat Maelshyve, but I believe it was a union worthy of being seen and praised. I hope that we may work together again in the future against extraplanar menaces and bring about a better existence for all denizens of Elanthia. Philosopher Y.V. | |
