I'll defer the majority of your questions, since I have no meaningful background in advanced mathematics and don't wish to pretend I can speak to it intelligently.

Moon Mages have a mathematical discipline they call 'enlightened geometry,' which is the geometry of magically manipulated space and interplanar movement. A Moon Mage needs to utilize it in order to make teleporational spells do anything other than scatter someone's atoms across the universe.

However, Moon Mages rarely do it consciously as anything other than a scholarly exercise. It's not something a lot of people have thought about, but the connection to the Plane of Probability seems to give people an unerring sense for numbers. At the moment of teleportation, a Moon Mage surrenders his mind to the planar link and... the numbers happen, like a little unconscious math SPU.

To this day, not many people have given much thought to the link between prophecy and mathematics.
