I spent most of the day doing nothing but outlining what work needs to be done and coming up with a design doc. Phew, what a mess :P The legacy system hurdles alone are nearly an insurmountable obstacle.
My initial plan is to release the Remedy system, along with a rewrite of alchemy tools (pyramids, mortar/pestle and buckets), herbs and as little as I have to while not losing any existing functionality. This alone will be a ridiculous amount of work... I'm pretty much going to have to start over and create a completely new system from the ground up. But, once this is done writing poisons and cooking will be much easier. I hit a brick wall trying to first do Cooking because of the lack of infrastructure. So think of this as Herbs 2.0. The big change for players is that foraged up raw herbs will no longer be useful outside of making money. To get a beneficial effect from a herb they'll have to transition through the Alchemy process. Old herbs will continue to function but will vanish over time due to a lack of supply. Anything herb-related (stackers) will get updated to work with them. The real difficulty will be updating all the herb shops and fixing the dozens of ancillary systems I am sure require the tools or herbs to work properly... Anyhow, I'm on this 100% right now so good things should happen quickly. | |
