I hear this a lot, but mathmatically it doesn't add up. In the old forging system a barbarian could cap a steel basty with 350FF or so. That is equivalent to tier 7 if the player has techniques and the career, and is using good tools. Your plain broadsword is now at this tier, and basties are even harder. Factor in rare metals, and you will need 500 or so ranks to cap the good stuff.

Granted, players seem to hit 500 skill faster these days - and maybe that is the larger problem. Crafting was designed so the majority of the game (people with less than 500 skill) were not left out. Anyhow, as time goes on more and more high-skill templates and harder materials to work with will be added.

The second thing to keep in mind here is that without the skill split, everyone is using just 1 skill for multiple crafting systems. Once people a forced to put their skill in a given place, everything will suddenly get much more difficult for the hobbiest crafter.

As for the tier system... as GMs we try to balance the loot from quests with the highest-quality player-made goods. Tyrium is a good example of this. Sure, we could just hand out Capped Tyrium weapons and armor as prizes. Instead we chose to go the route of a rare resource and are letting the players choose what it ultimately becomes.

I've not seen but a handful of things go out that are better-than-player-made anyways, so I wouldn't get too worked up over that one.

More end-game content is in the works that does not rely on 3.0 getting out. I am splitting my time between nudging that along and completing the remainder of the crafting systems. Only recently did I free up enough to push Tailoring near completion, but it will all happen... RL just needs to cooperate all year long :P
