>>What all those games share in common is attainable goals with stuff to do once you've reached the end.

But you don't reach the end in DR. And ask how happy the people are who "are at the end". See the complaints about the lack of high level creatures, the lack of things to spend money on, the lack of skills doing anything at the high end. We're working on those things of course, but let's not pretend you can only work towards goals when you're at "The end". DR is an extremely non-linear game.

>>Minecraft is a great game for a couple of hours, then you stop because there is no real end.

There are many, many, many people who would disagree with the above statement. It sounds like sandbox gaming just might not be the thing for you.

>>Dragonrealms is great for several months at a time, but then you reach this point where you leave (or at least I do) because it gets boring. People are too busy trying to reach for an unattainable goal to take time out to roleplay(including myself). You always come back but are usually vastly disappointed after about a day and go back to being a script zombie until you decide to stop wasting money to watch words while you do other stuff.

If all you do is log in and run .train, then yes, I imagine you will quickly get bored. But it's not like hitting 100th circle or 150th circle or 200th circle magically unlocks "Molten Core v 2.0, the RP Zone". RP is free form. We can provide events, we can provide RP tools, but in the end -- if you want RP it has to be player driven.

>>I understand the idea that if you slow things down, then maybe people won't focus on training as much and go back to roleplaying. But I think it'll be the opposite. Anyone who wants to actually compete will be spending even more time than ever training for the edge.

I don't get why "Competing = RPing". Aren't there forms of RPing that aren't settled by a crossbow?

>>So, I think much lower caps with faster learning is the answer. It'll close the gap and eventually get folks on an even playing field which is what we all actually want anyways.

You haven't provided any evidence to support this claim and at this point I'm dubious at best.
