Material Detailing is a very large bonus to both ingredient and tool quality - but won't exceed the 99 quality cap on either. Stone, unlike metal, cannot be refined. So this ensures that even storebought stuff is going to work very well for trying to cap things. Not a technique for everyone, but then again you don't have to learn it if you don't want to ....

As for tools getting damaged - if you are using storebought chisels it should take (on average)

100 actions before the damage results in any penalty whatsoever

Stone carved items take 8-15 actions to complete 20% of actions won't require chisels

= 10-20 items before might want to get repaired

= 30-60 items with the proper tool care technique before want to get repaired

The blacksmithing repair techniques are handy because repairing isn't terribly difficult, but you only repair about 2%/attempt w/o them. With them you can repair over 15% - meaning one shot should do it for you. Better yet, if you get the 1 hour protection, that further cuts down on the repair hassel.

Let me know if anything looks off, but that seems rather reasonable to me.
