It stores the creation string for that item in your logs so that if it's ever eligible for recovery, it's super simple for us to re-create it exactly the way it was when you registered it.

Some, but not all of the data, which is why registration is best, since if you're altering a forged or fletched or crafted item, altered or not, without it being registered, it's impossible to replace exactly the way it was.
