Bow Crafting (Shaping) in DRT for Testing! · on 02/08/2015 04:32 PM CST 53

Howdy folks. The new bow crafting system, and first part of the Shaping Discipline is now out in DRT for testing. Please stop in and take a look if you have time.

This release includes the following:

* Shortbow, Longbow and Composite Bow templates

* New tools (Drawknife, woodsman's saw, glue, wood stain)

* Lumerjacking and new wood materials

* Bow string and Bone backing material for composite bows

* Bow draw strength, draw strength appraise and load time modifiers


Each bow category has a number of templates varying in draw strength (load time), suitability for damage (damage modifier) and balance (OF bonus and fumble/recover chance). Shortbows range from 2-4s, Longbows from 3-5s, and Composite bows from 4-6s. Load times have a % chance of going to the next lower level when the draw strength falls between an integer second.

Lumberjacking is its own system and has seen some previous testing. Tonight I hope to get a few more areas updated around Crossing. Just need to get it done.


Please note -

* Foraging for wood is no longer possible
* I plan to add foraging for STICK and LIMB and BRANCH back in where you randomly find a low-quality wood type
* Mags will be updated to handle the new wood materials

* Cleric bead carving should still work, just using sticks and limbs from the lumberjacking system. Workability modifies difficulty. Shops will still sell the old materials for the time being.

* Fishing pole shaping will be brought into the new system once I've had a moment to look at it.

* Please read the book pages in chapter 1. These should explain the verbs, syntax and some background information.

* Arrow making is not in test yet. It is a bigger project - still need to figure out how to deprecate/update all the animal parts people can use.

* Workorders should be live. Please let me know how payouts look.

* Still need to add some tools to the Engineering crafting halls that will allow quicker preparation of wood into lumber.

* Still need to add the new tools and ingredients to the other crafting systems.
