Dateline 3/8/2009: CONSENT VERB - PROTECT YOUR ITEMS FROM GRAVEROBBING! |
CONSENT: Although any player can still dig up your grave and rob your items, if the player tries to log out (or gets punted) with your items, they will return to the gravesite. Now, there is a way to give the player of your choice your permission to retrieve your items and guard against that happening. Remember, this will NOT prevent players from graverobbing you. It simply gives the person of your choice an edge. This applies to weapons or other items that were dropped from your hands upon death in addition to those items inside your grave. |
The syntax to use the CONSENT verb is as follows: |
CONSENT [player] - Gives that player your permission to pick up items from inside your grave, or items that you dropped when you died. |
CONSENT CLEAR removes your permission and normal graverobbing penalties will affect anyone who picks up the grave items. |
You can type CONSENT by itself at any time to get a reminder of how to use CONSENT. |
Note: CONSENT must be granted to your player of choice after EACH individual death. Even if the person you give CONSENT to pick up your items is the same person you gave CONSENT to after your previous death two minutes ago, you must still issue the CONSENT again for each subsequent death. |
Example Number One: Joe dies and drops a scimitar of doom. Bob picks up scimitar of doom without Joe's use of the CONSENT verb. Bob then gets disconnected from the game because of a power failure at his house. The scimitar will return to the original room it fell in, subject to the janitor or other players. Oops! |
Example Number Two: Joe dies and gives CONSENT to Bob to pick up his dropped Scimitar of Doom beforehand. Yay! But Bob has to go and Sally offers to hold the Scimitar of Doom. Does Joe need to CONSENT Sally before she accepts it as well? YES!!! |
Remember: CONSENT for someone to retrieve items you dropped at death or that were in your grave must be given BEFORE your player of choice picks up those items. CONSENTing a player AFTER he or she already has your item will NOT work. Items that are lost due to having returned to your gravesite or the room where you died, due to accidental misuse of the CONSENT verb, will be subject to the normal reach of the janitor or other players as defined in NEWS 5 4 and NEWS 5 5. |
