Dateline 2/5/2001: SCAMS, BARTER, AND DEATH |
Bogus raffles and any other form of scamming other players out of items or money by using a "throwaway" character, re-rolling the "Scam artist" character, or logging out to get away, is a violation of policy and will be dealt with harshly. |
Please notice the changes that have been made to BARTER, that now allow you to APPRAISE any item offered in a BARTER situation. At this point, if you get "taken in" by a scam artist, you will NOT be reimbursed for your losses, however the scam artist WILL be punished and WILL lose the ill-gotten gains. |
Likewise, we highly suggest you do NOT: |
A) Drop any item, or give another player any item you want to keep or expect to get back. Are you making a deal with someone who claims they can't barter because they have a debt, or they just want to appraise the item, or they just want you to drop it so that they can "see" it? Call the deal off! If you willingly hand an item or coins to another player or drop it on the ground, it will NOT be replaced. Don't EVER drop any item you expect to see again. GUARD is not foolproof. Also, if the game crashes and it's on the ground, it is gone and will NOT be replaced. |
B) Buy "raffle" tickets from anyone other than someone you trust. A commoner is standing outside the bank offering tickets to a raffle for all sorts of outrageous, "old", or altered items, but he's just wearing a tunic and a sack? MOVE ON! Your money will NOT be replaced if you willingly give it to someone and you are fooled. Several respectable citizens hold frequent raffles, but use some common sense when you gamble! Even if he's wearing nice items, use common sense and don't spend your life savings on a chance at a nice item. If you give someone money, it will NOT be replaced if the raffle is a scam, even after the violator is warned and locked out. |
C) Kill someone who says, "I want to walk the Starry Road." Some people just have to go "out with a bang" and make a big deal out of leaving the realms. Let them take care of their own death. The system can't tell if the person wants you to kill them or not and if you kill someone and get arrested and/or fined, you will NOT be reimbursed. Advise that individual to die like everyone else, at the hand of a critter. The Mine Shaft in reavers is another good alternative! |
