Log of The Complexities of Extra-Planar Relations
event from 3.03.19, held in game at Crossing moon mage guild

You say, "Thank you all for gathering. I would like to take a few roisaen of your time to speak of recent events, namely the recent attempt to converse with extra-planar entities. To refresh the memories of those who were there, and to inform those who may not have been there, I would like to briefly go over the goals of our attempt and what occurred on Taisgath Island."

[Middens, Crossbow Bend]

Before you stands the Observatory of the Southern Crossbow. It is a three-story edifice, its sixteen-sided walls capped with a crystal dome. The top floor is also the nerve center of the Moon Mages' Guild, a most powerful and revered arcane circle throughout Elanthia. All in all a rather quirky structure, it manages to inspire awe and curiosity at the same time. A carved ivory door leads inside.

You also see a fractured Shadow Servant covered in a network of golden veins, a shadowling, a highly adjustable stargazer's sling chair, some braided grass, an indolent Shadow Servant, a pale red moonbeam, a tiny chocolate brown kitten, a morose Shadow Servant, a scroll display with a dusky crimson parchment with exquisite platinum leaf writing on it, a bright yellow plaid cloth with several things on it, an ivory urn, an ornate silver gateway and a dilapidated tea cart with a couple of things on it.

Also here: Atazai who is sitting, Heritage Keeper Lovelorn who is sitting, Monk Aedarin who is darkened by an unnatural shadow, Randdon who is sitting, Ascetic Zaer, Craelyx, Fateweaver Zandari who is sitting, Treasure Seeker Fariden, Traveler Daartin who is sitting, Warlock Cezra, Fateweaver Lenaea surrounded underfoot by glittering blue hyacinth blossoms, Ahneya, Mrod's Voice Rafano, Occultist Kaliph who is hiding, True Bard Navesi, Inquisitor Rifkinn, Therasy, Brute Chawguay, Stargazer Mistanna who is sitting, Nomad Jorkin who is sitting, Zeteivek who is sitting and Aerialist Emyrose.

Obvious paths: west.
You say, "Myself, Lenaea, Traim, Chawguay, Kenamer, Zaer, Atazai, and many others traveled to Taisgath island a week or so ago and stood before the Obelisk there. Our goal was to attempt to converse with extra-planar beings, namely, shadowlings and shadow servants-entities that, in all likelihood, you see every day."

Zandari whispers, "You left me out!"

You say, "And Zandari was there too."

Jorkin exclaims, "Noooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"

You say, "Although I cannot speak for everyone who decided to participate, the goal Lenaea and I shared in promoting the event was to learn what the shadows might have to say... to ask questions to enhance our understanding, and to attempt to create a dialogue between our realm and the Shadow plane to achieve peace."

Jorkin says, "I knew it was gonna do that."

You say, "To begin, we announced that our intention was to communicate, not to harm. For our safety, and to further express our good intentions, Kenamer summoned a Banner of Truce. Later on, Navesi raised the Bardic Sanctuary enchantment to further pacify the area."

Jorkin says, "Oh well."

You say, "The moon mages present were asked to cast spells to increase their connection to the plane of probability, such as tenebrous sense, seers sense, thoughtcast, and so forth. Once all were ready, we began to summon shadowlings and shadow servants, preparing to pose questions to them."

You say, "Almost immediately, we began to feel a foreign presence. The shadows, it seems, were alive."

Rifkinn angrily says to Nsar, "You know how this is going to end."

You say, "We began to pose questions, including whether we caused shadow creatures any harm, whether they knew the Arbiter, why we are called Defilers, what we had done wrong, and so on."

Nsar says to Rifkinn, "With an exchange of knowledge and opinion, I'd hope."

You say, "Yes, hopefully we will have a good dialogue and peace."

You say, "Shadows began to gather, and the more questions we asked, the more they reacted. First, they coalesced into some unknown script on the obelisk. They defied gravity and dripped upward and outward from it. A snarling face appeared on the surface of the obelisk, with too many eyes."

You ask, "Then the shadows spoke. They said, "Defilers, is it not enough that you bid us to do your petty errands, that you wish to bind us to answer your questions in your primitive tongue?"

Rifkinn angrily says to Nsar, "Correct, knowlage your not wanted and opinion that people are greatful i kill you."

You say, "We can pause if you need to work something out."

Rifkinn says, "Im sure your guild leader will not want this sort at his guild."

Lenaea says, "Kssarh will do as he will, that much is certain."

You say, "I dont speak for Kssarh. I hope no one here thinks they do."

You say, "Anyway."

You say, "The shadows writhed in pain as we directed our individual thoughts and energies toward them. They spoke again, with many voices angrily calling out in unison "Children of Grazhir."

Rifkinn says, "But i know the inquisition wont tolerate it, so it will end very shortly in one of two ways."

You say, "Hopefully we can hear our words first."

You say, "We refocused our efforts, joining together in a singular line of questioning. Some attempted to make apologies, and to ask forgiveness for whatever wrongs had been committed in the past. Generally, though, we asked only that the shadows help us to understand their anger."

Mitkiahn says, "Hello hello."

Jep exclaims, "Kali!"

Navesi says, "I should note that I chronicled this event in the latest issue of the Herald, should anyone want a written copy."

Jep says, "Woah, it is a party here."

Zandari says to you, "Here, borrow this. It should help."

Rifkinn quietly says to Nsar, "Last chance."

Mitkiahn says to Mistanna, "Hi."

You say, "The shadows writhed again as we continued to seek understanding, repeating in the same cacophonous voice "Children of Grazhir," this time with rage."

Mitkiahn says to Klines, "Hello sir Klines."

You exclaim, "Then the shadows swarmed around the obelisk, covering it in inky blackness! Rippling under unseen forces, the shadows suddenly froze in place, and thrust jaggedly outward!"

You say, "I approached the obelisk and reached out towards it. Then, the shadows... they..."

Atazai says to Rifkinn, "We have told the Guild. They haven't done anything."

You say, "The shadows attacked my mind. I felt their pain, and their anger. I cannot say more right now. The wound they created still aches."

Rifkinn says to Atazai, "That is ok, the Inquisition will."

You say, "After the shadows attacked me, they disappeared into nothingness, taking their whispers with them. Leaving us in silence."

You say, "At this point, let us pause to see if anyone would like to discuss this so far. When everyone is ready, I will submit to you what I think we learned from this."

Jorkin says, "Sounds like we are close to having a rebellion."

Zandari says, "Not with the stick."

Klines says to you, "I have a question."

Rifkinn angrily says to Inneth, "The same for you."

You say, "Yes."

Inneth asks Rifkinn, "The same what?"

You say, "What is your question, Klines."

Klines asks you, "What benefit does it have, to the Moon Mage Guild at large, for you not to tell us the full breadth of what you experienced?"

Rifkinn says to Inneth, "}ang as what i told the other one."

You say, "Well, we wont know until after we finish the discussion. i believe there is a lot to learn."

You say, "Ok."

You say, "I hope you will indulge me for a few minutes more to hear my thoughts on what we learned from our endeavor."

Klines says to you, "That answer feels evasive. I believe there is a lot to learn as well. However, if we lack full knowledge..."

Lenaea asks Klines, "Your line of questioning seems aggressive. What is your agenda, I wonder?"

Klines asks Lenaea, "I apologize, but, I do not recognize you. Who are you, exactly?"

Mitkiahn says to Lenaea, "If you know Klines at all, you know that he doesn't have an agenda."

Lenaea says to Klines, "His wife."

Mistanna says, "Shhhh."

You say, "Navesi, who was present for most of the events, wrote an account of what occurred, and concluded that little was learned from the attempt."

Klines asks Lenaea, "I see. Shall I just call you Aaoskar's wife, then? Or do you have a name?"

You say, "Her name is Lenaea and there is a lot that i am still trying to make sense of, myself."

You say, "I disagree."

You say, "First, we learned how little is required to entice, encourage, or enable extra-planar entities to manifest in our plane. The only magical spells that were used were those we use on a daily basis."

Klines says to you, "I can appreciate that the events that occured were rather...impressive."

You say, "No one used sorcery, teleologic or otherwise. Our regular spells were enough to breach the Plane of Probability."

You say, "Second, we learned, or at least suspect, that some of the entities who manifested themselves were likely Negotiants. Servants of the Arbiter in Darkness."

Djordje asks, "As a momentary aside, anyone else want to help activate the nexus while we're here anyway?"

Aedarin says, "Interesting."

Lenaea says, "The clicking sounds."

Ilveric says to Djordje, "I have contributed."

You say, "We also learned that unfocused psychic energy caused the entities harm, or pain."

Aedarin asks, "Defne unfocused if you would Aasokar?"

You say, "We were all asking many different questions."

You say, "I say this because before we began to focus our energies on a single question, the shadows covering the obelisk cowered from the unfocused concepts and psychic energies battering them."

Aedarin says, "Thank you."

You ask, "The knowledge that psychic energy effects them in a negative way has interesting implications. If psychic energy alone makes them upset with us, how much of our magic would we have to forsake to appease them?"

Lenaea asks, "Nevermind our magic, what about the gweth network?"

Lenaea asks, "If our unfocused questioning alone disturbed them, how do they feel about the constant influx of thoughts from the numerous people using gweths to communicate on numerous different topics?"

Noraelai says, "Evening all."

Lenaea says, "In that sense, if the psychic energies from gweths could affect them, Moon Mages alone would not bear the blame for their suffering."

Zaer calmly asks, "Pardon, but I'm not at all convinced it was the phsychic energy itself. Couldn't they have been responding to such a large gathering of those they see as enemies at a site where the barrier between our world and there's is a bit....loose?"

Jorkin says, "I agree."

Jorkin says, "We lone cannot be blamed for this."

You say, "Possible, but that is not what it appeared to be at that time. i ask for people who were there to reflect on that."

You say, "This may seem obvious at this point, but the entities were angry. They were not interested in our good intentions, nor in any attempt on our part to figure out what we may have done wrong in the past."

You say, "This became all the more clear once we started to focus our energies and ask the same question."

You say, "Their words, and their actions, indicate they have ill intentions toward us."

Jorkin says, "Hmm."

You say, "Finally, we learned that the entities are more powerful than we anticipated. The combined effect of a Banner of Truce and a Sanctuary enchante could not stop the mass of shadows from launching an attack. In no way were the shadows held at bay."

Klines says to you, "With all due respect, and with the admission that I was not present at the event in question, I must say I feel like you have come to some alarming conclusions without sufficent evidence."

Lenaea says to Klines, "Perhaps you should go do some research of your own."

Jorkin says, "So, we are at war then. if this has happened under a banner of truce."

Chawguay softly says to Klines, "I saw what happened...chilling..."

You say, "These conclusions are based not only on my experience, but i think the many that were there."

Klines says to Lenaea, "I apologize for the misunderstanding. I was speaking to Aaoskar, not you."

Noraelai says, "If truce is even a concept they understand."

You say, "I will close, because I know we have other places to be. I propose that we continue to research our past to discover how we arrived at this point. Although some, I know, will disagree, and think me foolish, I maintain that we must also prepare for a potential war. The entities made plain their feelings about us. I cannot discuss it today, but I believe that an attack may be imminent."

Klines says to Chawguay, "I have no doubt of that."

Lenaea says to Klines, "I don't care who you were speaking to. I am responding to your silliness."

Chawguay says to you, "I have a question."

Klines asks Lenaea, "Why, precisely, are you so angry?"

Lenaea says, "What would be truly foolish, Aaoskar, would be to tell others that there is no danger at all, and to say openly that we need not take any precautions whatsoever, when the enemy may be able to hear us."

Mitkiahn says to Klines, "You've now met Lenaea."

You say, "For those who wonder what our next steps might be, we do have some ideas. We plan to work with members other guilds to expand our knowledge and to address problems that can only be solved together. If anyone has ideas of their own, please feel free to share."

Zeteivek says to you, "I wish to make it known, as the other Seer mentioned the clicking. It was not from your shadows. I was the source of that."

Aedarin asks you, "Several times you mentioned you could not comment further on things today.... when will you be able to?"

Chawguay asks you, "Do we have to worry about the shadow creatures making a push onto our plane under their own volition? Is the realm in danger?"

Klines says to you, "Again, with due respect, I can't help but feel like you are shoving a plan of action forward without providing complete information, while making conclusions that I suspect I am not alone in disagreeing with, and without seeming to actually wanting to entertain legitimate discourse about beforehand."

You say, "I believe that all things take a while to contemplate and digest. i tend to move slow with caution despite what some claim."

Rifkinn asks Brennarose, "Seeing as this is comming to an end, im sure you can toddle off and let the ones who left, what went on. Your still on good terms with the Profane... no?"

You say, "All i am asking for is for people to take caution and research."

Aedarin says, "Well anything we offered would be inadviseable without full information."

Aedarin says, "You say you are already making plans...."

Jorkin says, "I was going to say, I must think on this. but evil knows no bounds to get what they want. which I believe might be the downfall of us all."

Klines says to you, "Again, without you telling us what you experienced, any research being done would be like looking for a needle in a stack of needles."

Aedarin says, "Perhaps you shouldnt be if you cannot speak in full of the information."

Lenaea says to Klines, "You should perhaps do yourself a favor and ask some others who have been at other meetings discussing these topics. This is not the first time, or the tenth time, we have gathered at this urn to discuss these sorts of things."

You say, "I am. but it doesnt mean that anything is set in motion. right now, we will be planning on discussing things. slowly. i dont believe in rash actions."

Klines says to Lenaea, "Thank you for the advice. However, whether you've discussed a bad course of action one time or ten times, it makes no difference..."

Aedarin says to you, "That is reassuring."

Chawguay asks you, "Do we have to worry about the shadow creatures making a push onto our plane under their own volition? Is the realm in danger?"

Lenaea says to Klines, "If you had been listening, you would have heard Aaoskar to call for more research."

You say, "And i think that what we said is very emotionally charging. so it is always best to let everyone think things over."

Aedarin says, "I do remeber that last time such actions were taken, many died."

Lenaea says to Klines, "Not my fault you can't hear."

Mitkiahn says to Lenaea, "You're quite rude to a man you barely know."

Jorkin says, "True Aaoskar."

Klines says to Lenaea, "Out of respect for Aaoskar and his standing with the Guild, I'm going to ask you to cease addressing me unless you are going to do something more than act as Aaoskar's shield."

Mitkiahn says to Lenaea, "Klines is a well respected member of our guild and you should keep your tongue in check."

Klines asks you, "So to be clear, you are unwilling to tell the remainder of the Guild your full experience on Taisgath?"

You say, "I think that is very possible Chaguay. and i still think that the answer is always to research. gather information. and not to exclude any options."

Lenaea says to Mitkiahn, "I don't think you're in any sort of position to make judgments about my characgter."

Mitkiahn says to Lenaea, "You're walking a fine line Lenaea."

You say, "One should always prepare for the worst. and hope for the best. that is all we plan."

Chawguay says to you, "Understood."

Jorkin asks, "So where do we start to look for information on this.?"

Ilveric says, "I will continue to Seek in all things, though my purposes are largely my own."

Atazai says to Klines, "Hi, we used to see each other around."

You say, "There are many ways to acquire more information. moon mages do not have a monopoly on knowledge. we need to work together and reach out to people from all walks of life."

Klines says to Atazai, "I recall. It is good to see you again."

Jorkin says, "Ok."

You say, "I know i have already been talking to many people from different guilds."

You say, "And how can i tell you exactly what we are going to do until we have had time to get the wisdom from many."

Klines says to you, "At the risk of pressing my luck, are you not hearing my question or simply ignoring it? The answer to this question is critical to my, and your Guild's understanding of how you intend to move forward, in my opinion."

Rifkinn says to you, "Including Necromancers it seems."

Chawguay says to you, "Well, I"m sure Agonar will agree....let us know when there is something to bash."

Jorkin says, "True."

You say, "I thank you Chawguay."

Lenaea says to Rifkinn, "If you're talking about necromancers and cooperation, you should first speak with the Theren Guard."

Lenaea says to Rifkinn, "A known necromancer was below in Viggu's fortress, fighting his horde alongside Theren Guard members."

Klines says to you, "Thank you for the answers. It is...interesting."

Jorkin says, "Well, I will be watching my shadowling very closely from now on."

You say, "As to your question, Klines. i will stay by that we are progressing slowly by seeking knowledge."

Klines says to you, "That answers neither of the questions I asked, I'm afraid."

Rifkinn says to Lenaea, "Im not sure how thank makes it ok for anyone else to co-operate with them. but if your so upset about that, the Barron always welcomes letters."

You say, "Unfortunately, i do not have all the answers. i dont think anyone does."

Lenaea says to Klines, "What makes you think you're entitled to all the answers? He was attacked, and it caused him great pain."

Rifkinn says to Navesi, "See you soon."

Zandari says, "I was there, and I have more questions than answers. However, discovering those answers is a journey I want to set my feet upon."

Rifkinn says, "Safe paths all."

Lenaea says to Klines, "You do not get to decide when he speaks."

You say, "Thank you Zandari."

Master of War Mitkiahn's group came through an ornate silver gateway.

Klines says to Lenaea, "Final warning."

Jorkin asks, "Um... theres some eyes looking out from your shadow Aaoskar. are they friend or foe?"

You notice Mitkiahn attempting to conceal his spell preparations.

You recognize the familiar mnemonics of the Shear spell.

Lenaea asks Klines, "Perhaps you should run upstairs and tell Kssarh you'd like to take his place?"

You say, "I appreciate all the questions, but i think it is probably best to close on this."

Klines says to you, "And frankly, it concerns me that you refuse to answer direct questions that simply require a yes or no. And to take that a step further, it makes me wonder why your wife immediately projected that I "had an agenda."

Mitkiahn gestures.

A globe of shimmering blue fire flickers into being around Mitkiahn.

Angel turns her gaze heavenward and traces a series of lunar sigils in the air.

You recognize the familiar mnemonics of the Starlight Sphere spell.

Angel gestures.

Several motes of light gather, briefly forming a minute version of the constellation of the Spider before collapsing into a translucent brilliant red sphere.

You notice Angel attempting to conceal her spell preparations.

You recognize the familiar mnemonics of the Shear spell.

You say, "It seems i was right in thinking this would be a controversial topic that would stir people in different directions."

Angel gestures.

A globe of shimmering blue fire flickers into being around Angel.

Mitkiahn says to you, "This is why we can't have nice things."

Klines says to you, "The topic isn't controversial, to me. You refusing to answer direction question is."

Zeteivek says, "I was there as well, and the only question I have is why is this conversation being interrupted. Demanding answers in an open discussion seems... ineffective."

Lenaea says to Klines, "Die in a fire."

Angel says to you, "As I told you before, do not let it deter your work."

Zaer calmly says, "This is going to make the next holiday party awkward."

Delicate trails of frost drop from a glittering brilliant red sphere as it drifts gently from side to side.

Mitkiahn gestures at a glittering brilliant red sphere.

The brilliant red sphere begins to move ominously toward Lenaea.

Djordje says, "I'm so confused as to what you people are frothing over now."

The air takes on a sudden chill as a glittering brilliant red sphere flares and rushes at Lenaea!

Frost blackens her chest, constricting the skin with a sharp crackle.

Zandari says to Jorkin, "It's likely a shadowling. I wouldn't think too much of it."

Kalinandra says, "Oh dear."

You say, "So i thank you all. feel free to discuss it. and i admit that i am better and more suited for private conversations."

You say, "I am not the best speaker."

The air takes on a sudden chill as a glittering brilliant red sphere flares and rushes at Lenaea!

Lenaea's targe frosts over.

A sharp hiss sizzles through the air as her right arm snap-freezes, distending skin and flesh.

Emyrose sighs.

The air takes on a sudden chill as a glittering brilliant red sphere flares and rushes at Lenaea!

Lenaea's targe frosts over.

You grab Lenaea's arm and drag her west with you . . .

[Phelim's Shrine, Glade Path]

This gentle glade seems cloaked in perpetual twilight, nestled in a canopy of overhanging willows that threatens to blot out any light daring to filter through their dense branches. Fireflies alight upon tall ferns, their syncopated inner lights twinkling like stars in a clear night sky. A groomed, pebbled path runs east toward the front doors of the observatory, and northwest towards a small standing shrine.

Also here: a stunned Fateweaver Lenaea surrounded underfoot by glittering blue hyacinth blossoms.

Master of War Mitkiahn just arrived, leading his group.

A glittering brilliant red sphere drifts in with a hiss, following Mitkiahn.

Also here: Noraelai, Ambassador Angel who is in a globe of blue fire, Master of War Mitkiahn who is in a globe of blue fire and a stunned Fateweaver Lenaea surrounded underfoot by glittering blue hyacinth blossoms.

You say, "What are you all doing."

The air takes on a sudden chill as a glittering brilliant red sphere flares and rushes at Lenaea!

Lenaea's targe frosts over.

A blast of cold fills the air as her abdomen blackens, crystallizes, and finally explodes violently, showering the area with bits of iced blood, ribs, and things best left unmentioned.

* Lenaea is slain before your eyes!

You grab Lenaea's body and drag it east with you . . .

Rafano sighs.

Atazai says, "Um."

Master of War Mitkiahn just arrived, leading his group.

Kalinandra lays her hand on Lenaea's arm.

A glittering brilliant red sphere drifts in with a hiss, following Mitkiahn.

Atazai says, "Soooo."

Baelor says, "Ah time for real talking I think."

Jorkin says, "You did well. I wasnt there. you have enlightened me greatly. thanks for letting me know of this Aaoskar."

Daartin says, "Mitk."

Chawguay says, "I think I will head back to my guild and give Agonar a heads up."

Mitkiahn says, "Yeah man."

Mitkiahn says, "She told Klines to die in a fire."

Mitkiahn says, "That's my tipping point."

Ahneya says, "Look at you all, amazing examples of your guild."

Angel asks, "Did I miss that?"

Djordje says, "I did miss that."

Noraelai says, "I get the feeling we've gone off topic somehow."

Mitkiahn says, "A bit."

Klines says to Lenaea, "In fairness, you were warned multiple times..."

Zeteivek says to Mitkiahn, "You do no favors to your guild."

Klines asks you, "How can you say that we are free to discuss it, when you refuse to answer questions?"

Djordje asks Mitkiahn, "Are we supposed to be doing favors to the guild?"

Mitkiahn says to Lenaea, "Between the two of us, I believe that was 5 or 6 warnings."

You hear the ghostly voice of Lenaea ask Klines, "Are you his princess?"

Atazai says, "They are Nera's words."

Baelor says, "Well nice seeing you guys again. Time to get back to work."

Zeteivek says to Klines, "I am an outsider as well. In the pursuit of knowledge, I would gladly step aside, if it meant conversations could be had."

Daartin says, "Wait."

Daartin says, "What happened."
