Event Name: A Mission of Mercy: Part 1
Event Instance: Prime
Real Date: 2020-09-22
Game Date of Event: 435-09-14
Point of View: Unknown POV
Aaoskar says, "Thank you all for coming."

Aaoskar says, "The state of relations between us and creatures from the Plane of Probability remains unstable, at best. For reasons we do not fully understand, probabilistic entities are hostile towards us. They abhor us."

Aviada smirks.

Aaoskar says, "Last year, a small group of Moon Mages presented the theory that the unconscious mind may warp the fabric of probability. We posited that this manipulation may be one of the causes of hostile relations between the two planes."

Dantia nods.

Lagu makes a grunting noise.

Aaoskar says, "We sought the help of the Nomads of the Arid Steppe to help explore this theory further. Of all the Moon Mage sects, the Nomads have arguably been the most at peace with extraplanar entities."

Quentiana sighs.

Aaoskar says, "It was thought that if we could clear our minds of unconscious desire through a Nomad ritual we might better be able to hear the whispers of Fate."

Aaoskar says, "Thus, a few short months ago, the Nomad shaman Quentiana led us in a ritual dance meant to place our minds in a receptive state. It happened right here, on the Trabe Plateau, where we now stand. Meditating to the beat of ritual drums, Moon Mages and non Moon Mages alike open minds and hearts to whatever message might be heard."

Quentiana winces.

Quentiana takes a seat.

Lagu takes a seat.

Aaoskar says, "Accounts of what followed the ritual differ from viewer to viewer, but what is certain is that we experienced the power of forces from another Plane."

(Lagu settles himself on a step.)

Dantia nods.

Aaoskar says, "The body and consciousness of the Shaman Quentiana were possessed by entities that spoke through her, using her voice to scream at us in an ancient tongue, calling us Seekers of Moon and Defiler. She later described the entities as embodiments of raw emotion. Rage, Hatred, Famine, and Fear."

Aviada frowns.

Quentiana gazes down at the ground.

Lagu nods.

Aaoskar says, "A breach opened, spilling out extraplanar creatures who launched an immediate attack. Several died, including Quentiana. The Tribes who gathered to watch the ritual deserted her. They claimed she had angered the Spirits."

Aaoskar frowns.

Dantia nods.

Aviada folds her arms across her chest.

Aaoskar says, "Needless to say, we did not find the path to peace that night. But we knew that we had to keep trying."

Aaoskar says, "That is why we are here tonight. Our journey towards understanding begins anew, and we ask for your help."

Aaoskar says, "Hidden away in a dark grotto of the Frozen Heavens, high in the Dragonspine Mountains, there is an ancient obelisk. A consciousness lingers near it. A powerful, but desperate, entity."

Aaoskar says, "We know that this entity is probabilistic in nature because of the - Reward - that it gives. A reward that is hard won. In exchange for draining the prediction pools of a Moon Mages, what the entity refers to as "a splinter of freedom," the entity gives knowledge of the Read the Ripples spell."

Aaoskar says, "For those that view this trade as insidious, we must not forget that so many of us have accepted the bargain."

Aaoskar nods.

You nod at Aaoskar, in complete agreement with his views.

Aaoskar says, "We must look beyond the transaction. Let us consider why it is offered."

Aaoskar says, "About 35 years ago, around 1 Nissa the Maiden 400AV, a Dwarven explorer removed a white disk from the obelisk, perhaps a representation of Grazhir. This removal resulted in his death. It is not known exactly how the Dwarf died, but it is rumored that the Children of Kalestraum stole the disk from his body and still keep it."

Lagu dryly says, "And it brutally destroys the bodies of those who displease it even slightly."

Aaoskar nods to Lagu.

Aaoskar says, "But more importantly, the removal of the disk resulted in serious planar instability. A planar breach opened a doorway for extraplanar beings, like Nimbuses. They stalked the snowy peaks of the Frozen Heavens and lingered around the Obelisk."

Aaoskar says, "Tozu, Apprentice to Mortom, closed the planar breach on the obelisk shortly after its discovery using thealstones gathered by adventurers. He described the enchantment as merely a patch, not quite a repair."

Aaoskar says, "Something lingered in the obelisk, even with the patch. Trapped. Begging for help, for freedom. The entity."

Aaoskar says, "Approximately 16 years later, around 13 Moliko the Balance 416 AV, a rift was forcibly reopened by an unknown person or entity into Guildleader Mortom s chamber. Nimbuses poured through. Tozu once again patched the Obelisk. And the entity grew desperate."

Aaoskar says, "It sends the same messages to listeners now as it did years ago. "Free, help me, free me," it says. "I need you. Betrayed." "Save me," it implores."

Aaoskar asks, "It demands a sliver of our freedom in exchange for secret knowledge, for power. What the entity takes from us is our prophetic pools. But why would it call this freedom?"

Dantia gnaws on her lip.

Aaoskar asks, "What we collect in our prophetic pools is the raw material we use to reshape our destinies at will. That is the freedom the entity describes. But a display of divination is not what the entity seeks. No, it wants the raw materials of our prophecy. And what does prophecy draw from?"

Aaoskar exclaims, "Probability!"

Aviada shudders.

Aaoskar nods emphatically.

Aaoskar says, "We believe that what this entity seeks, and what it extracts, are the elements of its original nature. Separated as it is from probability, and trapped on this Plane, Moon Mages are the only way it has to get a taste of home."

You smile.

Eyst nods.

Flickering lilac radiance erupts from seemingly nowhere, forming a jagged rift in the air. Hashi steps out from within the light, followed by a gust of chill winds. The rift vanishes as swiftly as it appeared.

Aaoskar says, "Regardless of whether we are right or wrong about its origins, we know that it begs for help."

Lagu tips his hat to Hashi with a courteous nod.

Quentiana says, "Home...."

Aaoskar says, "The entity etches upon our mind his feeling of betrayal, its entrapment, its yearning for freedom, apparently something that only Moon Mages can grant. We plan on giving this being what it asks for. We will give it the raw material we use to reshape our own destinies. But we will ask for nothing in return."

Hashi waves her hands around.

Evivere frowns.

Aviada folds her arms across her chest.

Bowing slightly in your direction, Hashi brings her hands up to shoulder height and makes a fist with the right hand while covering it with her open left hand.

Aaoskar says, "We hope that with good intention and a focused and present mind, we will not only help this being, but demonstrate to other probabilistic entities that peace is possible. We ask for your help in this mission of mercy."

Hashi nods to Lagu.

You beam in loving admiration at Aaoskar.

Lagu leans forward.
