| Look: | A variety of fish are illustrated across the cover of the book, an additional inscription appearing along the lower edge. The once-colorful drawings are diluted and mottled by water stains that dissolved the edges of the ink, giving some of the fish a misshapen appearance. Subtle folds and cracks mar the spine holding in the thin pages whose bent edges indicate frequent use. Hanging by a few remaining strands of silk is a heart-shaped lock, a jagged crack visible along its surface.
