This item allows things to be written in them and then for that item to be READ later, similar to companion slates but with the allowance for many more characters. For example, Ariwin was able to 'sketch' the following image:

When desired, a small yellow eraser or similar would remove the text from the page. A page would need to be blank before any new text was added, so no adding on or correcting an existing set of text. Over time, the pages would begin to degrade from use.
