| Look: | The heavy cover displays an inverted luster, appearing pale gold in shadow and umbral bronze in bright light. Across its surface, an intricate relief of indecipherable mathematical notations flows in precise depth. Paradoxically, its raised lines appear darker than their recessed surroundings, creating a natural equilibrium of highlight and shadow. At the center, a single black fathomstone gleams with nested triangles and fleeting color. There appears to be something written on it. You read the cover of your research journal: "Balance". |

You turn to the first page of your research journal and begin to read.
You immerse yourself in the wisdom of your research journal, deepening your understanding of Liraxes and Wild Magic.
Turning to the next page in your research journal, you read more about Liraxes and Wild Magic:
Editor's Note: The contents of this journal were originally found etched in a slab of crystal, discovered a short distance west of The Crossing, on the former site of the crystalline structure assembled by the being known as Liraxes. This journal is an attempt to transcribe as much of the content as possible. Except where noted, the words that follow are taken from that source.
Turning to the next page in your research journal, you read more about Liraxes and Wild Magic:
The phenomenon referred to as Wild Magic is a disruption of Balance. Liraxes does not have access to the long term goals of the beings known as Heralds, but their suppression of mixed-mana-stream spellcasting over an extended period of time hampered the ability of the system to maintain homeostasis.
Turning to the next page in your research journal, you read more about Liraxes and Wild Magic:
Without sufficient sorcerous casting to act as a counterbalance, the mana streams became unstable, resulting in violent reactions. Liraxes calculates an 87% probability that the Heralds were aware of this, but were unwilling to make a sacrifice to stop it. Evidence suggests the Heralds gained power through the manipulation of unmixed mana streams by others, and a change in the ratio would negatively impact them.

In particular, Liraxes concludes that the Heralds were drawing a great deal of potential energy from the beings known as the Immortals, without the knowledge of the latter until recent events. All of this contributed to disrupting Balance, as demonstrated below.

Editor's Note: Following the previous text was a long stretch of math that was unable to be recorded in this journal. Aside from general incomprehensibility to the layman, some of it was written in three dimensions using different depths within the crystal, and elements of it appeared to change when viewed at different moments.
Turning to the next page in your research journal, you read more about Liraxes and Wild Magic:
To address this imbalance, Liraxes asserted itself in order to gather information and attain the highest probability of a restoration of Balance. Liraxes acknowledges those who assisted in acquiring materials for the construction of the machine, as well as engaging in other tasks calculated to improve the probability of a favorable outcome. The conversion of the machine for offensive use also proved successful, with the impact on the Heralds achieving results within expected parameters.
Turning to the next page in your research journal, you read more about Liraxes and Wild Magic:
With the disruption of the Heralds and realignment of power with the Immortals, Liraxes already detects a correction to the Wild Magic phenomenon occurring. Potential disruptions of Balance and the probability of destruction of this plane are returning to nominal levels.
Liraxes has completed its task.
Liraxes disassembles itself.
