Look: | A pair of small drama masks, lain one atop the other, are masterfully carved along the upper right bout of the fiddle. Rich ebony with a satin sheen forms the comfortable chinrest and carved pegbox, contrasting against the tankard-shaped silver knobs capping the end of each tuning peg. A thin line of elegant script contours the edge of the perfling on one of the lower bouts. There appears to be something written on it. |

Recall
The fiddle is a simpler version of the stringed violin, often crafted in fanciful shapes and sizes depending upon what region it is found. It has a flat back and short, unfretted neck that supports a set of four strings secured at one end by an elaborate pegbox. Using a bow, this instrument may be either held against the shoulder or in the lap to be played.
