Background
IC
No one knows much about Hoggarm's background before he popped up in Crossing. Mostly because no one can make much sense of anything he says. He claims to be a "Sent-Tog", but no Dwarf can be found to corroborate the statement. Furthermore, many who have interacted with the young Tog seem under the impression that he openly admits to being a Necromancer... maybe. It's rather unclear to most, and no one is sure if the Tog himself actually knows or understands what he's admitting to. It's also possible he thinks he's an Alchemist, rather than a Necromancer, and just has a poor understanding of vocabulary. Either way, most citizens of Crossing find him a bit dodgy and prefer to avoid him. Which is difficult as he is a very friendly and outgoing Tog who has no sense of boundaries, personal space (or property), or social queues - like people running away screaming in fright.
OOC
Hoggarm is, without a doubt, the worst Necromancer in Elanthia. Mostly because he doesn't really grasp what a Necromancer is, or that he is one. Friendly, ambitious, and with an absolute absence of executive function to control his attention, Hoggarm fell into his life's calling by accident. Like most things in his life. Also, like most things in his life, this has resulted in outcomes of a highly dubious variety both legally, morally, and dietarily.
If asked, Hoggarm happily admits to being a "Filossilfur". No one is really sure what that is, least of all Hoggarm. If asked, he will explain "Is can be for importent chores and making stuff for fix some-furry or Tog probably."
Character inspiration
- First and foremost, a tribute to a lot of the original Tog "tropes" established in the early days of DR Plat. The original player of most Togs was an utterly fantastic person who gave a unique and fun life to Togs. I don't have any hope of coming close to replicating the awesomeness of the original Togs, but if I can keep even a small spark alive then I'll be very happy.
- Next, I've also always enjoyed the idea of a Necromancer character that was both blatantly obvious about being a Necromancer, but also to utterly non-Necromancer in behavior.
- Lastly, one of my favorite characters in the past was a Halfling Moon Mage that was essentially a Kender from the Dragonlance series.
Go ahead and let at least those last two points sink in. Now, picture those concepts in the body of a Tog who is addicted to Turnips, has an unreasonable fear of cavities and dwarves inspecting dental hygiene, and believe he's supposed to be setting a good example for others as sort-of Ambassador for the Togs to the not-Togs.
Yes, I have a twisted sense of humor.
