First released during Hollow Eve Festival 458.

Flutterlace is produced from glass kelp, a translucent sea grass found at depths safely reached only by the Merelew. Once harvested, the delicate marine fibers undergo a painstaking drying process that preserves their deep-sea flexibility without allowing them to become brittle. During this treatment, the fibers naturally separate into a dense woven base and exceedingly fine filaments that curl and branch across its surface, creating the textile's characteristic lace-like texture. The underlying weave readily accepts dye and provides full coverage, while the finer strands are too delicate to retain coloration and so remain translucent. These nearly weightless surface filaments stir with the slightest disturbance, producing the subtle movement that gives flutterlace its name. Despite its delicate appearance, the finished textile is exceptionally strong and resistant to tearing. While it is not appropriate for armor, it could serve as the base material for apparel, bags, and other typical uses for durable fabric.

Common Description

A dense weave of richly dyed fibers forms the body of the fabric, providing an opaque backdrop for the veritable sea of translucent filaments curling across its surface in irregular lace-like patterns. The finest strands subtly flutter with the slightest disturbance, catching and refracting light along their delicate texture.
