Battle Praxium/Logs/20260904 Praxium Lecture Series: Complicated Clerics
Event Log
You say, "Welcome everyone, to the second meeting in the Praxium Lecture Series."
>
You say, "Tonight, we re discussing Complicated Clerics."
>
You say, "Clerics have one of the widest, deepest kits amongst the various guilds."
>
You say, "A good Cleric can shut down many different opponents, all at the same time."
>
You say, "They use their kit well and use the right tool, at the right time, against the right opponent, so render them impotent."
>
You say, "A bad Cleric, though, will fold quickly to a single opponent. They'll bring the wrong tool, with the wrong attributes powering it, at the wrong time, and find themselves looking up from the ground at a victorious adversary."
>
Nvalia smiles at you.
>
You say, "So what separates a good Cleric from a bad Cleric? (Not rhetorical)."
>
Tingen says, "Knowing which tools are right at which times."
>
Valynn casually observes the area.
>
You nod to Tingen.
>
Warbrolus praises Tingen.
>
Cambin nods at Tingen, obviously agreeing with her views.
>
You ask, "Anything else?"
>
Valynn leans against a sturdy wooden chest reinforced with iron bands and rivets.
>
Valynn ponders.
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "The "good" Cleric understands their spells and how they work, they understand that the communes are very helpful in a fight (We can stop bleeding)."
>
Zersha says in a Velakan accent, "A bad cleric steals candy from orphans."
>
Zersha appears to be trying hard not to grin.
>
You chuckle.
>
You say, "I'd say "A few things."
>
You say, "First, knowledge of your kit."
>
Valynn grins at Aemaranth.
>
(Aedie hides her bag of stolen candy.)
>
Tingen says, "Understanding how their stats play into powering their spells."
>
Tingen nods.
>
Zersha gasps at Aedie!
>
You say, "Second, knowledge of your opponent."
>
Zersha looks at Aedie, obviously trying not to grin, but the dimples in her cheeks give her away.
>
Valynn glances at Aedie.
>
You say, "Third, knowledge of which of your kit to use against your opponent."
>
You say, "Tonight, I want to tackle the first of these topics."
>
You ask, "Ready?"
>
Valynn leans forward and rests her chin in her hand, a thoughtful expression on her face.
>
Nawain exhales involuntarily and shifts her stance, as if now under a heavy burden.
>
Valynn gazes at you.
>
You say, "We're going to build on our last Praxium Lecture where we talked about attributes and offensive vs. defensive contests."
>
Aemaranth grins at Zersha, her dimples flashing into view.
>
You say, "If you missed that, I'd highly encourage you to go back and review sometime after this session."
>
Nvalia takes a seat.
>
Zersha looks at you and jots down some notes.
>You ask, "Clerics have two main types of Debilitations. Does anyone know what they are?"
>
Tingen ponders.
>
Tingen asks, "The ones that make magic go away, and the ones that do normal things?"
>
Aedie asks in a lilting accent, "Stats vs. armor?"
>
You chuckle.
>
You say, "Close."
>
Tingen asks, "Oh, stat-wise? Mind ones, and Wisdom-based ones?"
>
You say, "Those that are powered by Wisdom, and those that are powered by Intelligence."
>
You nod to Tingen.
>
You say, "Largely speaking, the Wisdom abilities are Reactive. They trigger on their own or do their thing automatically."
>You ask, "Can anyone give me an example of a Wisdom-powered Reactive debilitation in the Cleric suite?"
>
Aedie nods.
>
Tingen raises her hand.
>
Zersha casually observes the area.
>
You nod to Tingen.
>
Tingen exclaims, "Sanyu Lyba!"
>
You nod.
>
You exclaim, "That's one of them!"
>
You ask, "What else?"
>
Valynn takes a sip of her coffee.
>
Warbrolus says, "Halo... I hate that spell."
>
Zersha looks at Valynn, obviously trying not to grin, but the dimples in her cheeks give her away.
>
You nod to Warbrolus.
>
You say, "Yep, that's another good one."
>
You say, "Sanyu Lyba is a good example here. When your opponent casts a spell at you, Sanyu Lyba is triggered and attempts to do its thing automatically."
>
Nawain asks in a Rakash accent, "Malediction?"
>
Tingen says to Warbrolus, "I think you mispronounced "love."
>
Warbrolus grins at Tingen.
>
You say, "Halo is another example. It will passively trigger on its own when you are impeded by an enemy."
>
Warbrolus chuckles.
>
You ask Nawain, "Yes, but elaborate. In what manner, and at what times, is Malediction "reactive"?"
>
Aedie asks in a lilting accent, "Does hydra hex count as passive?"
>
Zersha nods at Valynn, obviously agreeing with her views.
>
You say to Aedie, "There you go. You and Nawain combine your answers."
>
Nawain nods.
>
Nawain chuckles.
>
Nawain says in a Rakash accent, "When Hydra's Hex is imbedded in it."
>
You say, "Hydra Hex, a Cyclic that pulses on its own, will Reactively (in this case, Passively may be a better word) do its thing with CoZ or Malediction."
>
Valynn takes a sip of her coffee.
>
Tingen blinks.
>
You ask, "Why is the Reactive and/or Passive nature of the Wisdom Cleric a big deal?"
>
Tingen says, "Cause I don't wanna have to do things."
>
Zersha giggles at Tingen.
>
You say, "You always have to do things in a fight."
>
Warbrolus says, "I feel that."
>
Illiya grins at Warbrolus, her dimples flashing into view.
>
Aedie says in a lilting accent, "Less to focus on though."
>
Tingen says, "It leaves space to do other things then, I guess."
>
You say, "There you go. Both of you."
>
Valynn ponders.
>
You say, "The Reactive and/or Passive abilities do their own thing, irrespective of what you're doing. You're then free to advance, cast other spells, utilize tactics, swing weapons, and a whole lot more."
>
You say, "Two quick notes."
>
You say, "EVERY one of those passive abilities we just mentioned can be triggered or refreshed actively."
>
You say, "You can infuse Sanyu Lyba to get it to return from the person it cursed."
>
Zersha nibbles her lip thoughtfully.
>
You say, "You can infuse Halo to actively push someone back."
>
You say, "You can infuse Hydra Hex to force an earlier pulse of CoZ or Malediction."
>
You say, "But, importantly, you don't *have* to."
>
You say, "Secondly...these reactive abilities are often heavily contested."
>
Zersha furrows her brow.
>
You say, "Sanyu Lyba, despite bypassing SvS wards, still contests Willpower."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "That right there, the infusing hyh is how I have kept Nvalia's swan down when we stab at each other at the WT."
>
You say, "Halo, despite bypassing SvS wards, still contests Reflex."
>
You nod to Aemaranth.
>
Nvalia grins at Aemaranth.
>
Zersha glances at Aemaranth.
>
You say, "CoZ and Malediction, are both heavily resisted by Soul Shield and Courage."
>
>
You glance at Nvalia, a female Elf.
>
You poke Nvalia in the ribs.
>
You elbow Nvalia in the ribs in a playful sort of way.
>
You grumble at Nvalia.
>
Nvalia hums to herself.
>
Nvalia leans on you.
>
You grin.
>
Nvalia says, "I can't help it, it's the will of the gods."
>
Nvalia points up.
>
Aemaranth says to Zersha in a melodic accent, "If I don't, Nvalia beats me to death with my own arms."
>
Nvalia shrugs.
>
You chuckle.
>
Zersha giggles at Aemaranth.
>
Zersha glances at Nvalia.
>
You say, "Okay, let's switch gears."
>
You say, "Largely speaking, the Intelligence abilities are Active. They don't trigger on their own, you must actively do them."
>
You ask, "Anyone have some good examples of Intelligence abilities or spells?"
>
Illiya says, "HULP."
>
Tingen says, "Spite."
>
You ask, "Aaaaaaand?"
>
Nawain says in a Rakash accent, "Idon's Theft."
>
Tingen says, "Idon's Theft."
>
Tingen nods.
>
You say, "There we go."
>
You say, "My favorite."
>
You grin.
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Such a wonderful spell."
>
You say, "Huldah's Pall removes a caster's ability to cast spells for up to 45 seconds."
>
Warbrolus says, "More wickedness."
>
Valynn nods at Warbrolus, obviously agreeing with his views.
>
Illiya grins at Warbrolus, her dimples flashing into view.
>
Valynn folds her arms across her chest.
>
You say, "Spite of Dergati creates a bubble wherein no magic can happen, by pushing all of the mana streams away."
>
You say, "And Idon's Theft attempts to steal the spell that your opponent is actively prepping...locking them out of recasting that spell for roughly 60 seconds."
>
You ask, "What are some notable characteristics of all of these spells?"
>
Tingen says, "They make magic go away."
>
You nod to Tingen.
>
You ask, "Yep. What else?"
>
Tingen asks, "They contest Will?"
>
Valynn taps her head.
>
Imroth says, "They have the name of an Immortal in them."
>
You say, "Indeed. They contest Willpower."
>
Tingen nods to Imroth.
>
You nod to Imroth.
>
Illiya grins at Imroth, her dimples flashing into view.
>
You say, "These are *very hard* spells to land."
>
You say, "Only Spite of Dergati bypasses SvS wards."
>
You say, "The other two do not."
>
You say, "And they lean right into what is usually your opponent's best defensive contest."
>
Zersha giggles at Valynn.
>
You ask, "Given that these are Active abilities, meaning you have to actually CAST them at someone, or use another action, why would you ever use Intelligence abilities intead of Wisdom abilities?"
>
Tingen says, "Because you think they're fun."
>
You laugh!
>
Warbrolus says, "Synergies."
>
You say, "I certainly do..."
>
Valynn appears to be trying hard not to grin.
>
You say to Warbrolus, "Unpack that."
>
Warbrolus says, "Your intelligence spells make your wisdom spells easier to land."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Because it every spell if correctly used creates another win condition for you."
>
You say to Warbrolus, "Some of them, yes. The Magic/ contest ones. Less so (but still beneficial) for the Spirit/ contest spells."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "And thats why its hard to fight Clerics sometimes. We can win in many ways."
>
You nod to Aemaranth.
>
You say, "Spot on."
>
Valynn grins at Aemaranth.
>
Valynn praises Aemaranth.
>
Nvalia nods at Aemaranth, obviously agreeing with her views.
>
You say, "Most Clerics, but not all, spend the majority of their training on their Mentals."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "And its not about the actions you do in a fight. Its about the actions you cause someone else to do."
>
Tingen asks, "Why are Mind/ spells easier to land after you cast magic-go-away spells?"
>
You say, "I am more capable at Intelligence contests than Wisdom contests. However, because I've trained Intelligence, Discipline, and Wisdom far higher than other attributes, I am decent-to-good in both."
>
You say to Tingen, "I'll get to your question in a moment."
>
Tingen smiles at you.
>
You ask, "In a fight against Nvalia, what am I likely to use?"
>
You grumble at Nvalia.
>
Tingen exclaims, "Spite!"
>
Tingen sticks her tongue out at you in a playfully teasing manner.
>
Nvalia asks, "Soul Shield.. for me?"
>
Nvalia clears her throat.
>
Valynn grins.
>
You say, "You are both awful."
>
You grin.
>
Warbrolus grins.
>
Zersha says in a Velakan accent, "My feet. To run away."
>
Tingen says, "Halo."
>
You say, "Halo, certainly. That's a Magic/ ability."
>
Warbrolus says, "Soul sickness, soul bonding."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "HYH+CoZ while casting Soul Bond."
>
You say, "However, Halo is blocked by Swan."
>
You ask, "How do I get around Swan?"
>
Tingen says, "Infusing Hydra Hex."
>
You say to Tingen, "That's a mostly Passive way, yep."
>
Tingen ponders.
>
Tingen asks, "Casting HULP at her?"
>
You say, "I can infuse Hydra Hex (sometimes it takes two), and then infuse Halo."
>
Warbrolus grins at Tingen.
>
Warbrolus says, "Swan will stop the rebound..."
>
Warbrolus snickers.
>
You say to Warbrolus, "I could cast SICK or Soul Bond on Nvalia, trying to exploit her usual lack of defense against Spirit attacks."
>
Tingen asks, "When does it take two, and how do I know it's gonna take two?"
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "If you infuse HYH multiple times, you can not only knick swan but apply whatever curse is running in the HYH."
>
You ask, "I cannot, however, HULP her. Why?"
>
Valynn ponders.
>
Tingen exclaims to you, "Because it'll HULP you instead!"
>
Zersha glances at Imroth.
>
Tingen says, "And it would be hilarious."
>
You say, "Indeed. It will HULP me instead."
>
Tingen says, "You should do that more."
>
You say, "Since Nvalia is not a Magic User, Huldah's Pall will instead rebound on me."
>
Zersha leans on Aemaranth.
>
Valynn ponders.
>
Warbrolus asks, "Swan will block it if I'm not mistaken, correct me if I'm wrong, but it's a gamble?"
>
You ask, "What about Idon's Theft or Spite of Dergati? Useful against Nvalia?"
>
Warbrolus nods to Valynn.
>
Tingen shakes her head at you.
R>
Valynn asks, "Does Curse rebound off a barb?"
>
You say to Valynn, "It does not."
>
You say to Valynn, "Just Huldah's Pall."
>
Valynn grins at you.
>
Tingen asks Valynn, "Curse?"
>
You say, "Okay, let's swap opponents."
>
You say, "I'm facing Warbrolus instead."
>
Warbrolus asks, "Can Idon's theft help with Swan?"
>
You ask, "What are some of the spells or abilities I should use against Warbrolus?"
>
Tingen ponders.
>
Nawain says in a Rakash accent, "Beshrew."
>
Nawain coughs.
>
You nod to Nawain.
>
Nawain grins.
>
Warbrolus begins nagging Nawain unmercifully.
>
You grin.
>
Valynn grins at Nawain.
>
Nawain ducks her head.
>
You chuckle.
>
Warbrolus says, "Don't give anyone any ideas here."
>
Valynn asks, "Isn't that the answer to everything now?"
>
Tingen exclaims, "HoT!"
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "You can use beshrew on anyone."
>
Aedie asks in a lilting accent, "For those of us who are... out of the loop. What does swan do?"
>
You say, "Nothing like hitting him with an extra-powerful CoZ, Malediction, and Huldah's Pall all at the same time."
>
Zersha looks at Aemaranth and jots down some notes.
>
Imroth quietly says, "The spell of friendship."
>
You ask, "Would I cast a normal CoZ or Malediction on him?"
>
You say, "Those work well against Nvalia."
>
Tingen says to Aedie, "Swan, in Combination with Serenity, blocks magic against barbarians."
>
Nawain asks in a Rakash accent, "Why?"
>
Aedie nods.
>
Tingen asks Aedie, "But only once every, like, some number of seconds. Maybe 15? Maybe a different number?"
>
You ask, "Would I run Hydra Hex with CoZ or Malediction against Warbrolus?"
>
Tingen says to you, "No."
>
Tingen says, "You don't run cyclics."
>
You ask, "No? Why not?"
>
You grumble at Tingen.
>
Tingen says, "But, if you were gonna run a cyclic, you'd probably use GHS."
>
You say, "Interesting. Why not CoZ or Malediction? They're useful against Nvalia? Both of my opponents favor heavy melee..."
>
You raise an eyebrow in Warbrolus's direction.
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Against Warbie, I would HYH+malediction+offense. And go from there."
>
Warbrolus says, "I'm just listening."
>
Tingen says, "Because they don't help you get through Swan, and you can probably keep warb at range with Halo, so it's nice to block his spear when he throws it at you."
>
Warbrolus says, "I like knowing how people intend to kill me."
>
Imroth smirks at Warbrolus.
>
You say, "The answer is that I know warbrolus runs Courage."
>
Warbrolus says, "He's nice and doesn't want to remove it for me."
>
You say, "Courage will hard stop CoZ and/or Malediction from landing."
>
You say, "Which means it is a waste of time to run Malediction with either against a Paladin."
>
Tekumseh nods to Warbrolus.
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Now I didn't know that. Good thing to learn."
>'So I'm not using Malediction. I'm not using CoZ. I'm not using HYH. What *am* I using against a Paladin?
You ask, "So I'm not using Malediction. I'm not using CoZ. I'm not using HYH. What *am* I using against a Paladin?"
>
Valynn raises her hand.
>
You raise an eyebrow in Valynn's direction.
>
Warbrolus says, "Prayer."
>
You smirk at Warbrolus.
>
Zersha giggles at Warbrolus.
>
Nawain laughs!
>
Valynn asks, "If you are in the paladin's group with Courage, does that also count?"
>
Nawain asks in a Rakash accent, "HoT?"
>
You say to Valynn, "Depends on how they cast it, but assume "Yes."
>
Tingen jots down some notes.
>
Nawain ponders.
>
Valynn nods to you.
>
You say to Nawain, "Okay, there's an option."
>
You ask, "What does HoT do?"
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "A little prayer. Then I wait for shatter and him to smash my face into his shield."
>
Warbrolus says, "A terrible option."
>
Aemaranth grins at Warbrolus, her dimples flashing into view.
>
Yizard tried to highfive Valynn, but got left hanging!
>
Warbrolus says, "Don't do it."
>
Caade asks, "For debil or killing?"
>
Tingen says to you, "Strips his good spells."
>
You nod to Tingen.
>
Nawain says in a Rakash accent, "Offensive dispel. Very annoying."
>
Nawain nods.
>
You ask, "What *else* is it?"
>
Tingen says to you, "Also occasionally damage."
>
Tingen says, "Also burns my hand."
>
You exclaim, "Occasionally?!"
>
Warbrolus says, "OK, now I know who among you are going to kill me soon and the list keeps growing by the roisan."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "It damages your hand every time."
>
Tingen asks you, "Want me to try to HoT warb right now and see if it does damage???"
>
Nawain grins at Warbrolus.
>
You say, "Good ma'am, Hand of Tenemlor hits as hard as Lightning Bolt does, and it *also* dispels one enemy spell if it lands."
>
You say, "But pretend for a moment that I can't land HoT on Warbrolus."
>
Tingen says to you, "You're assuming you can hit."
>
You ask, "What else am I trying?"
>
Tingen ponders.
>
Warbrolus says to Tingen, "He can hit me with it."
>
You say, "Personally, I like to take Warbrolus' casting away."
>
Nawain says in a Rakash accent, "Soul Bond and throwing something at his head from far away. Hopefully something flammable."
>
Warbrolus says, "Don't ask me how I know."
>
You say, "No casting for the Paladin means no Birds."
>
You say, "No Birds means much less damage."
>
Tingen nods to you.
>
You say, "Much less damage means I pat him on the head and say, "There there, Little Paladin."
>
You wink at Warbrolus.
>
Valynn grins at Warbrolus.
>
Tingen pats Warbrolus on the back.
>
Warbrolus says, "Remember when I said he was nice? I take that back."
>
You chuckle.
>
Warbrolus gets a dark green lemicule turtle with shimmering cosmic zircon eyes from inside his heavy backpack.
R>
You say, "Okay, so we noted that we can use our Wisdom heavy abilities against Barbarians."
>
You say, "We noted that we can use our Intelligence heavy abilities against Paladins."
>
You say, "Food for thought: Intelligence takes a *lot* longer to grow into."
>
You say, "You're going up against steeper resists."
>
You say, "And fewer of your spells bypass wards."
>
Tingen nods.
>
You say, "I ultimately think Intelligence-heavy builds are stronger, but for most of your career, I'd likely advocate a Wisdom-heavy build."
>
You say, "If I were to give you a super brief, far too generic matchup guide:."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Clerics do have another offensive cyclic spell."
>
You say, "Against Barbarians I rely mostly on Wisdom abilities."
>
You say, "Against Bards I rely mostly on Intelligence abilities."
>
You say, "Against other Clerics, that's a toss-up."
>
You say, "Against Empaths, I rely on Intelligence abilities. If you take away their casting, you can laugh at their attempts to heal (themselves)."
>
You say, "Against Moon Mages, I rely on Intelligence abilities."
>
You nod.
>
You say, "Against Necromancers, I rely on *both*, as the Magic/ abilities are good against their minions, and Intelligence/ abilities are good against the Necromancer themself."
>
You say, "Against Paladins, I rely on Intelligence abilities alongside Halo."
>
You say, "Against Rangers, I rely mostly on Magic abilities."
>
You say, "Against Thieves, I rely on Magic abilities."
>
Warbrolus asks, "Can we reflect again for a moment on how to kill Nvalia?"
>
You say, "Against Traders, I rely on Intelligence abilities."
>
Valynn grins at Warbrolus.
>
Nvalia looks at Warbrolus, obviously trying not to grin.
>
You say, "And against Warrior Mages, I take away their casting absolutely as quickly as I can."
>
You wink.
>
You say, "I hope that general rundown, and the rest of the content is helpful. This was intended to be a primer, not an exhaustive guide."
>
Valynn asks, "Will there be a Complicated Clerics, Part II?"
>
You ask, "One or two questions, from the participants?"
>
You grin at Valynn.
>
Tingen asks, "Where do we go for the exhaustive guide?"
>
You nod.
>
Warbrolus says, "Clerics really are complicated."
>
Caade nods to you.
>
Caade asks, "What do you generally put in your Orb?"
>
Tingen grins at you.
>
Warbrolus says, "That's a good one."
>
You say to Caade, "Benediction, Soul Shield, Visage, PoM, GG, Centering, Starry Waters, Shield of Light, and Halo. I add in Sanyu Lyba when I PvP."
>
Illiya asks, "Do you ever use either Horn of the Black Unicorn or Fists of Faenella in fighting other adventurers?"
>
You say to Illiya, "I do not. I'd rather use AE than either of those, as it deals more damage with a shorter prep time."
>
Illiya nods to you.
>
You say, "I alternate between AE and HoT. AE if I need more raw damage. HoT if I need to remove pesky wards...like Iron Constitution."
>
You wink at Illiya.
>
Tingen frowns at you.
>
Caade asks, "HoT seems neat, but the whole lose your hand thing also seems probalematic, does the benefit generally outweigh the loss?"
>
Aemaranth says to you in a melodic accent, "You and I have a different approach to Empaths."
>
You say to Caade, "You...kinda...lose your hand. You can still hold stuff in it."
>
Tingen says to Caade, "What's problematic about losing a hand? Isn't usually an issue for me."
>
Caade says, "Makes it harder for me to sell my hand jewelry."
>
Caade nods to Tingen.
>
Nawain says in a Rakash accent, "Can't apply remedies as well without a hand. I think."
>
Nawain ponders.
>
Nvalia asks, "How is losing a hand not preventing you from using weapons?"
>
Tingen says to Caade, "I usually plan on finding an empath after I try to kill another adventurer, anyway."
>
Tingen looks at Caade and shrugs.
>
Illiya asks, "As a non-Cleric how do you beat a Cleric?"
>
You say to Nvalia, "It isn't actually losing the hand."
>
You say to Nvalia, "Just making it...extra crispy."
>
Nvalia says, "Bleh."
>
Nvalia laughs!
>
You say to Illiya, "Generally speaking? Gang up on them 2v1, 3v1, or more."
>
Imroth says, "I don't think you can use wands with your HoT'd hand though, yeah? It has been a while."
>
Illiya asks you, "Can't 1v1 a cleric?"
>
You ask Imroth, "Are you buffed?"
>
R>prep hot 100
Since you're attempting to feed more power into the spell pattern than it is capable of utilizing, you quickly work your way down to its maximal potential.
You begin chanting a prayer to invoke the Hand of Tenemlor spell.
>
Imroth says, "No."
>
You ask, "One Hand of Tenemlor your way okay?"
>
Imroth laughs!
>
Imroth says, "Ok."
>
You begin to weave mana lines into a target pattern around Imroth.

Your hand suddenly burns to a crisp!
You gesture at Imroth with your withered claw for a hand.
What feels like hot lead runs in the marrow of your bones. Gritting your teeth, you direct the fulminant energy at Imroth.
Imroth's black lotus deflects something.
Imroth grunts as a large bruise appears on his left leg.
The blast tears down his Tranquility spell!

You get a winged tyrium scarab clasping a golden eye from inside your traveler's backpack.
>
You say, "Right hand, Scarab."
>
>get my frozen wand
You get a twisted frozen-bone wand ensnaring a faceted Syrin's heart from inside your watersilk bag.
>
>point my frozen wand at imr
You point your frozen-bone wand at Imroth.
A sheet of slippery ice forms beneath Imroth!
Imroth slips and falls forward, slamming his face on the ice.
Roundtime: 2 sec.
R>
>put my frozen wand in my watersilk.bag
You put your wand in your watersilk bag.
>
You say, "Left hand, wand."
>
The wounds afflicting Imroth gradually fade, corresponding injuries blooming on Illiya's flesh.
>
Illiya seems to glow with an inner light, trailing rutilant sparks with every movement.
>
You say, "Worked fine."
>
You put your scarab in your traveler's backpack.
>
Imroth says, "Huh."
>
Zersha nods at Aemaranth, obviously agreeing with her views.
>heal
Your body feels at full strength. (100%)
Your spirit feels full of life. (100%)
You have a severely scarred, mangled and malformed left hand.
>
You say, "It's just crispy, not gone."
>
You grin.
>
Imroth gasps and regains control of his breathing.
>
Imroth leaps to his feet!
>
You ask, "Could someone make my hand less crispy?"
>
Caade asks, "Does SoL in hand ever make sense or do you run into the whole, it's a tower shield and you're not a Paladin so it's less than ideal problem?"
>
Illiya lays her hand on your arm.
You feel a warmth radiate from Illiya's touch.
You have a brief sensation that leaves your wounds tingling.
>
Illiya says, "I'm never gonna unhear 'crispy' as HoT hand description now."
>
Your external left hand scars feel fully healed.
>
Zersha says in a Velakan accent, "It seems like you got the worst end of that spell."
>
You say to Caade, "No. I'd always recommend a normal shield, rather than relying on a materialized Shield of Light."
>
Valynn nods in agreement.
>
Nvalia says, "Hot and crispy should not describe limbs."
>
You grin at Illiya.
>
Zersha grins at Nvalia, her dimples flashing into view.
>
Illiya nods at Nvalia, obviously agreeing with her views.
>
Warbrolus nods at Nvalia, obviously agreeing with her views.
>
Nvalia raises her hand.
>
You say, "OOC: Shield of Light in your hand does weird things over time, randomly re-materializing."
>
You raise an eyebrow in Nvalia's direction.
>
You ask, "Yes ma'am?"
>
Nvalia says, "Off topic from HoT, but back to AE-."
>
You nod.
>
Nvalia asks, "And the other TM spell. You can't outrun them, you can't do anything to stop them, right? So do you recommend just standing your ground if it's cast at you?"
>
Warbrolus says to Nvalia, "You parry it."
>
Warbrolus waggles his fingers mystically at Nvalia. How nice.
>
You say, "She can't."
>
You laugh!
>
Warbrolus exclaims, "She can try!"
>
Zersha says to Nvalia in a Velakan accent, "What I heard was that the trick is to stand behind Warb."
>
You say to Nvalia, "AE follows you room-to-room, but only lasts 4 pulses. The balance of the Cleric is checked with each pulse. My recommendation is to close to melee and prone them."
>
Nvalia says, "Warb's never been on my team."
>
You say, "Notably, AE is *not* DFA."
>
Illiya says to Zersha, "That's a great combat strategy in general."
>
Warbrolus says, "Nvalia's no quiter, Rakkor."
>
You say, "It doesn't bypass any defenses."
>
Illiya says, "It feels DFA though."
>
Caade asks, "What's the hardest ward to get an AE through?"
>
You say, "So I'd hold your shield, trip the Cleric, and go to town on them."
>
Illiya asks, "If the cleric is incapacitated during its AE course, does it affect AE's accuracy?"
>
You say to Nvalia, "The other spell that follows you is Soul Attrition. That is a cyclic that will follow you until you die, you enter a safe room, or the Cleric moves."
>
You say to Illiya, "Yes."
>
Caade's jaw drops.
>
Caade says, "I didn't realize SA followed like that, that's neat."
>
You say to Nvalia, "Regarding Soul Attrition...as it is a cyclic, if the Cleric is hard CC'd during any of the pulses, that pulse gets skipped."
>
Nvalia asks, "Wait, if the cleric moves from the initial room they cast it in? Regardless of where I go?"
>
You say to Nvalia, "Correct."
>
Warbrolus asks, "You could, spite a room to stop AE?"
>
You say to Warbrolus, "I've not tried that."
>
Nvalia asks, "What if they were moved? Like dragged out, compelled, hissed, etc?"
>
Warbrolus snaps his fingers.
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Spite would stop it."
>
Illiya asks, "Could you banner a room to stop AE?"
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Its the only spell that stops a cyclic."
>
You say to Nvalia, "If they are moved in any way from the room that they cast it, SA will drop."
>
You say to Illiya, "Yes, as it is now a no-combat room."
>
You say, "OOC: That was a recent change."
>
Nvalia asks, "Soul Attrition was banned from the last tournament, right? This upcoming one it will be allowed?"
>
You say, "It was allowed last tournament."
>
You say, "It was not allowed the first one."
>
Nvalia says, "Thank you, that was very helpful."
>
You say, "It will be allowed again."
>
Illiya raises her hand.
>
You say, "Alright, one more question."
>
Illiya says, "I have a question."
>
Aemaranth says in a melodic accent, "Also, word of wisdom from learning the hard way, don't cast Soul Attrition on a bard."
>
Caade grins at Nvalia.
>
You raise an eyebrow in Illiya's direction.
>
Illiya asks, "What is the path to victory against a cleric? Is it just pure damage? Is it mainly physical weapon damage? Is there no way to slow down their offense/debilitation or play it defensively?"
>
You ask Illiya, "1v1?"
>
Illiya says to you, "Both."
>
You say, "1v1, you want to deal as much elemental damage as possible. If necessary, go as low as 50/50."
>
Warbrolus says, "Find an Aether Cloak or Worm's Mist scroll, then throw away the latter and pretend like you can use the former."
>
Warbrolus says, "I'm not serious."
>
Illiya asks, "What do you mean by 50/50?"
>
You say, "Stack your Willpower, and then only damage them while they are prone to minimize the impact that GHS will have on the fight."
>
Valynn grins at Warbrolus.
>
You say, "Barbarians have a coin lip pathway to success against Clerics. So do Thieves."
>
You say, "I don't think any other guild has a reasonable chance."
>
Valynn puts her coffee in her leather carryall.
>
Nvalia asks, "Even though we don't have (much) elemental damage?"
>
You nod.
>
Valynn takes a sip of her reserve.
>
Caade asks, "Does SL hit a SVS contest? Can it be stripped with a dispel or rend?"
>
Illiya asks, "So it's either, be a NMU in a 1v1 or team up in a group fight?"
>
You say to Nvalia, "You have enough ways to close with a Cleric to counter their halo. You also deal a remarkable amount of damage quickly."
>
Tingen says to Caade, "It contests Willpower."
>
Warbrolus says, "I miss when courage blocked SL."
>
Warbrolus chuckles.
>
You say to Illiya, "There's probably some hidden strategy out there that'll let other folks eke out a win, but Clerics are favored in every Magic User matchup...often heavily."
>
Tingen says to Warbrolus, "And everyone else misses when wards blocked Holy Warrior."
>
Warbrolus exclaims, "True!"
>
You say, "OOC: I'm talking open world where weird stat manipulation doesn't come into play."
>
Warbrolus asks, "You could stand in a Spited room and wait them out?"
>
You say, "Alright everyone, that's all that I have time for tonight."
>
You say, "This Cleric is tired."
>
You exclaim, "Thank you for coming!"
