Funny you mention that, because we just started this same discussion with the SGMs yesterday.

To take an excerpt from my discussion with them:

Over the years, specially scripted items have become the stock in trade of major events (paid or free) in our games. When many of us started playing, the availability of a broadsword with a 4-word TAP that made a noise when you WAVEd it was enough to draw a crowd; nowadays that same broadsword would need to have its stats max-capped to Tier 6, have 10 verbs, a bonus against a certain creature type, the ability to bless iteself and any other weapons in the wielder's containers once a day, a 15 word TAP, and a 4 line LOOK to draw more than a passing glance. We've gone from festivals where a few specialized items were available in a handful of shops to recent events where almost ALL of the shops included specially (and very heavily) scripted items; for years, we've gotten used to the "norm" being items with anything less than 10 verbs and 3 special functions derided as "crap" on the message boards and while watching shoppers.

So...yeah. We're aware of it and there's a discussion taking place. Will be interesting to follow the one taking place here, as well.
