Berdna, one of the three cities (along with Gardul and Fashein) comprising the Dwarven Gardul Free State, is overrun by biters that erupt out of the earth into the Dwarven tunnels. The Free State is reconstituted as the Greystar Commune to prevent the destruction of the other communities, under a Tetrach of military commanders chosen by advanced age and lot.
