Clockstitch brocade originated among textile workers seeking to duplicate the beauty of their intricate assemblies found within complex mechanical devices. Clockstitch brocade is distinguished by gearwork motifs woven into sweeping damask-like patterns. Cogs, springs, winding keys, chains, and other complex pieces combine to form the common floral, geometric, or scrolling designs that reveal their clockwork construction upon closer inspection. The images depicted on the fabric are limited only by the creator's imagination, so long as they are shaped from mechanical components, even if they're too small to see from far away.
Fine glaes-infused threads are commonly incorporated into the secondary weft, giving the patterns a subtle metallic gleam. Conventional metals such as brass, copper, bronze, and silver may also be used, but glaes is often preferred for its ability to take on many colors with the use of crushed gemstones.
Common Description
Metallic pink blossoms unfurl across the glinting bolt of clockstitch brocade amid toothed emerald leaves, coiled green spring stems, and tiny silver keys depicted with elaborate azure dragonfly wings.
