Lethargy Concert, 12/6/2003, Daerlynn’s Concert Series, Arthe Hollow Inn As transcribed by Mykk Dalys

It has been 374 years, 197 days since the Victory of Lanival the Redeemer. It is the 5th month of Uthmor the Giant in the year of the Amber Phoenix. It is currently summer and it is early morning. You feel somewhat certain it's somewhere about the Anlas of Hodierna's Blessing.

It's quite cloudy and a bit muggy.

[Arthe Hollow Inn, Common Room] The room is filled with long, low tables and stools, where several people sit eating hearty bowls of Arthe Hollow's popular lamb stew. A large stone fireplace dominates one wall. Daisy Burdock, the inn's cook and waitress, crosses the room carrying a precarious arrangement of bowls and plates. She stops briefly to tease and joke with a regular customer or glance out the window. A sign is posted prominently next to the archway. You also see an open doorway, some wooden stairs, a polished wooden bar, and a wooden menuboard.

Joke #1: Magic Lamp Joke #2: Bards The Maestro's Tomb The Dance of the Katars (choreography assistance from Kithria Dustdanser) The Lady of Shadows Duliss' Story, or The Tale of a Tale Concert People are beginning to drift in the general direction of Arthe Dale. One young woman pulls at her companion's sleeve. "Hurry up!" she hisses. "We want to get a good seat for the concert! The Arthe Hollow Inn is big, and I want to sit up front!" Her companion, a tall young Elf, chuckles, "We have a few roisaen yet, dear," but he obligingly hurries his steps to match hers.

Xanzie chants in a mezzo-soprano voice:

"Ladies and Gentleman, thank you for coming to Arthe Dale tonight for another fabulous concert by the world's best performers."

Xanzie chants in a mezzo-soprano voice:

"So let's wave all our appendages in cheer and give a bit applause to Lethargy, the Bawdest of them all."

With a graceful flutter of her hands, Lethargy sinks down in a formal curtsy. Lethargy winks.

Lethargy says, "Bawdy is as bawdy does, I'm told."

In a flow of sinuous movement, Lethargy executes a series of graceful little leaps, landing neatly in a last flourish of skirts.

Lethargy matter-of-factly says, "In truth, I was approached tae become the guild leader of the bawd's guild."

Lethargy smiles and gazes at her claws.

Lethargy says, "But I realized I'd have tae stand around all day looking and acting bawdy, and, well, it just seemed tae much like work."

Lethargy winks.

Lethargy stretches.

Lethargy says, "It's nice tae be back here in the Inn"

Mykk exclaims, "Now THAT would be a guild I could visit!" Lethargy grins wickedly at Mykk.

Lethargy says, "It's been a few years, and I see some new faces, some well-lined (but ne'er old!) faces..."

Lethargy says, "I hope tae entertain ye well."

Lethargy gnaws on her lip.

Useff grins at Lethargy. Useff yells, "Pluck Yew!" from the back row. Mykk laughs! Xanzie smiles. Mykk lets out a hearty cheer for Useff!

Lethargy says, "Seeing as I've been billed as among the bawdiest, well, then, I s'pose I should nae disappoint."

Lethargy recites:

"The Archer's Victory, by Me."

Lethargy quietly says, "Or, if ye prefer, "Pluck Yew and the horse Yew rode in on."" Lethargy smirks.

Lethargy matter-of-factly sings in a soprano voice:

"The Archer stood, in Defiant Wood,
As the enemy drew up afore her.
    Her longbow of yew,
    Her comrade most true,
Was strung and sworn to support her."

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Her horse nickered softly, all unconcerned,
As it champed at the grasses aside her.
    He'd seen this afore,
    Watched her settle such scores,
Knew her courage and mettle would guide her."

Lethargy smiles with a brave and haughty look in her eyes, gazing to the distance.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"She stood her ground, and made nae a sound,
As her enemy marched into view.
When they saw whom they faced,
    Their courage displaced,
For 'twas the archer "Pluck Yew"!"

Lethargy dryly sings in a soprano voice:

"The rear troops that day, well, they melted away
They wanted no part of this fight.
    Yet nearly a score,
    Stood trembling, for war,
And closed up their ranks most tight."

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The captain did glare and his teeth he did bare:
"We are many, and she is but one!"
    With nae caution they stepped,
    Their swords held upswept,
They advanced at a trot, then a run."

Lethargy playfully sings in a soprano voice:

"Yew's heart was quite steady, and true battle-ready,
She faced them with courage well-suited.
With a grin on her face,
And with fear nae a trace,
She raised her "pluck" finger... saluted!"

Lethargy smiles and shows ye exactly which finger that was. Lethargy smirks.

Lethargy excitedly sings in a soprano voice:

"Her hands were a blur as they hurtled towards her
Yew's fletched shafts flew deadly and true.
    In that fatal glade
    Many widows were made,
Til the only one standing was Yew."

Lethargy wobbles, looking a bit faint.

Lethargy smugly sings in a soprano voice:

"The captain died last, and he were sinking fast,
As his life soaked the ground, well, he sighed.
Yew approached to quite near him
And leaned close to hear him.
He coughed out: "Pluck Yew!", then he died."

Lethargy leans against a polished wooden bar.

Lethargy teasingly sings in a soprano voice:

"She gathered her arrows and leapt to the saddle,
Her path chose by her equine companion.
    Her yew bow she held,
    And in victory yelled:
"Pluck Yew and the horse I rode in on!""

Lethargy grins. Lethargy curtsies.

Rhorgul gets some sugared strawberries from inside a food bowl labeled "Health Food". Useff gives Rhorgul a most suspicious look. Rhorgul squints at Lethargy, then throws some sugared strawberries in her direction. Oooo, near miss! Lethargy glances at Rhorgul. Rhorgul ducks his head.

Mykk says, "By the end of this concert, I'll be drinking my tarts and eating my liquor." Mykk's pecan tart exclaims, "Drink up!" Mykk laughs!

Lethargy ponders. Lethargy asks Mykk, "A new one, then?"

Lethargy says, "Just tae start the punnishment early."

Mykk lets out a hearty cheer for Lethargy!

Lethargy grins. Lethargy rubs her hands together.

Lethargy playfully says, "And now, a story I once witnessed when visiting a town of imps adjacent to far, exotic Muspar'i."

Lethargy loudly says, "And now, "A Moral Imp Erative", by me."

Lethargy folds her arms and lifts her head, a proud gleam in her eye and her tail resting firmly against the ground.

Lethargy quietly says, "Or, "An Imp Ortant tale of Imp Etuousness and Imp Ropriety, with an Imp Ressive Twist ending"..." Lethargy smirks.

Dhaerk's jaw drops. Xanzie grins. Donalisa groans. Mckatelee dubs Leth the queen of puns.

Lethargy recites:

"Imp Ossible Odds and his very best friend,
    Imp Robable Outcome, the Third,
    Were by House Imp Erial,
    And eating their cereal,
When they got an Imp Ortuning word."

Lethargy just tickled Mckatelee, making her laugh. Mckatelee giggles.

Lethargy recites:

""Come quickly and help, or it will be too late!"
Imp Otent screamed, running at speed.
    "The hermit recluse,
    Imp Lausible X. Cuse,
Is under attack and in need!""

Lethargy covers her mouth with her hand. Lethargy hums a mischievous tune.

Lethargy recites:

"The heroes responded, and leapt to their feet,
Drawing forth both sword and shield.
    Expecting disaster,
    They cut through the pasture,
Which belonged to Imp Erfectly Sealed."

Lethargy smiles matter of factly.

Lethargy recites:

"When they got to the back of the old hermit's shack,
They heard a big ruckus inside.
    Odds opened the door,
His friend leaped to the fore-
What they saw fair screamed DANGER: Imp Lied!"

Lethargy gasps! Lethargy chuckles to herself.

Lethargy recites:

"That ne'er-do-well had his sidekicks from hell,
His gang of Imp Osters, those nasties!
With a price on their heads
    That Imp Ertinent said,
"There's only two, let's kick their assties!""

Lethargy recites:

""Get 'em, boys," Lied shouted, lifting his club,
And Imp Etuous advanced first, that fiend!
    Then another erroneous,
    That scum, Imp Ecunious,
    Along with Imp Roperly Cleaned!"

Lethargy whistles an innocent tune.

Lethargy recites:

"With five deadly foes which beset our heroes,
    Victory seemed near Imp Ossible.
    But Imp Robable grinned,
    And lifted his chin,
For success also seemed near Imp Lausible!"

Lethargy smiles with her eyes twinkling with that special Lethargy-mischief.

Lethargy recites:

"The hermit, now heartened, turned with face darkened,
And his foot stretched to trip Imp Ecunious.
    With Odds in their favor,
    Outcome never wavered,
And the villains were proved mere buffoonius."

Lethargy scoffs.

Lethargy recites:

"With Imp Ressive-type swordwork, they beat down those jerks,
    Saving the ancient recluse.
    With Imp ending force,
    Good won, of course,
And our heroes turned the hermit loose."

Lethargy smirks.

Lethargy recites:

"At the end, there they stood, the Imp Oster's beat good,
And the moral Imp Els, like a drum.
    'gainst Imp Ossible Odds,
    If you listen to bards,
One expects an Imp Robable Outcome!"

Lethargy grins wickedly. Lethargy curtsies.

A handsome Human with tousled black hair stands up and clears his throat. He raises his glass and says loudly, "To Daisy Burdock, the fairest in the land!". Daisy blushes and curtsies to the man.

Donalisa grins. Samkim takes a bite of the tart. Useff gives Lethargy a wide, ear-to-ear grin. Mykk lets out a hearty cheer for Lethargy! Mckatelee chuckles. Donalisa applauds. Mckatelee lets out a hearty cheer for Lethargy! Cherrina applauds. Windreaper chuckles. Useff applauds. Mykk exclaims, "Hah! I've heard that one before!" Donalisa gives Lethargy a gentle poke in the ribs. Windreaper lets out a hearty cheer for Lethargy! Lethargy gets a glass of taffelberry punch from atop a polished wooden bar. Mykk waves a flagon of Glythtide's Favor around. Lethargy makes a chirring noise in the back of her throat. Xanzie applauds. Donalisa says, "that was erm..." Mykk says, "New, she says." Mykk chuckles. Lethargy takes a sip of her punch. Dhaerk snickers. Mykk takes a sip of his Favor. Dhaerk takes a bite of the tart. Mckatelee says, "new to some" Dhaerk takes a sip of his Favor. Donalisa says, "no words left for it.." Mckatelee winks at Mykk. Lethargy says to Mykk, "Well, relatively." Lethargy grins at Donalisa. Dhaerk says, "heh, relative is such a relative word" Mykk says, "Not relative to ol' Mykk." Donalisa grins at Lethargy. Mckatelee says, "Imp Ishly funny." Mckatelee winks at Donalisa.

Lethargy says, "Well, since humor is my metier, and Mykk was speaking about Olvi's earlier..." Rhorgul gets a plump strawberry from inside a food bowl labeled "Health Food". Mykk bounces around happily. Dhaerk says, "ooh" Lethargy winks at Mckatelee. Mykk takes a bite of the tart. Dhaerk dances about with his tart. Mykk says, "I'm an Olvi but goodie."

Lethargy recites:

"Many years ago, the tradition of seasonal Olvi celebrations already ancient in Elanthia, an unusual Gor tog barbarian named Ling was intrigued by what sounded to be an awesome party."

Lethargy winks at Mykk. Lethargy just tickled Mykk. Xanzie giggles.

Lethargy recites:

"Unfortunately, non-Olvi's were nae invited, nor would be allowed tae attend, which caused Ling a great deal of envy and frustration."

Lethargy recites:

"On his own, he decided tae rig some kind of disguise that would allow him to get into the upcoming celebration, allowing him tae participate in what portended tae be an amazing extravaganza."

Lethargy recites:

"That day, Ling went out tae a nearby tailor, and special ordered gnome-like knickers and tunic (in his size of course). "

Mykk says, "Sneaky like a GorTog we always say."

Lethargy recites:

"At the neighborhood bakery, he purchased 2 tarts (one tae show, and one in case he got hungry), and decided his disguise was complete."

Dhaerk says, "oh my" Lethargy flashes a wide grin at Mykk. Lethargy smiles and winks outrageously. Donalisa chuckles. Dhaerk says, "a tog dressed like an Olvi" Cherrina takes a bite of the raspberries.

Lethargy recites:

"On the day of the celebrations, he dressed in his new clothes, carried his tarts in plain evidence, and marched off tae Arthe Dale, where that year's celebration was tae be held."

Dhaerk says, "wonders never cease" Lethargy mischievously says, "Needless tae say, he did nae make it past the gate without being noticed by the guard there." Lethargy winks at Dhaerk. Neophyte Gridaksma just arrived.

Lethargy recites:

"A dwarfish war mage guarding the gates stopped him from entering, and, straining his neck tae look the Gor'tog in the eye, quickly discounted Ling's insistence that he was, in fact, a gnome. "

Dhaerk exclaims, "I'd think not!" Gridaksma offers Donalisa a shot of Skullcrusher whiskey. Donalisa just hugged Gridaksma. Donalisa accepts Gridaksma's Skullcrusher whiskey.

Lethargy recites:

"When Ling's frustration began tae manifest in anger, the dwarf took nae chances, and wove and cast a powerful magick at him!"

Donalisa purrs happily in Gridaksma's general direction. Virge just arrived. Lethargy gasps!

Lethargy recites:

"The spell, lost tae today's mages, immediately shrunk the hapless Gor tog from his original 7 foot height tae a diminished 3 feet, 6 inches!"

Lethargy takes a sip of her punch. Dhaerk cackles! Donalisa gawks at Lethargy. Xanzie ponders.

Lethargy recites:

"Shrieking, the Gor tog belatedly realized his Olvi Celebration Day woes...."

Lethargy licks her lips. Lethargy smiles impishly.

Lethargy mischievously exclaims, "That being a half Ling easily dwarfed the problem of being recognized as a misgnomer!"

Lethargy ducks her head. Donalisa groans. Mykk groans. Dhaerk rears back his head and lets out a honking guffaw that would inspire envy in a donkey. Mckatelee covers her eyes with her hand. Donalisa laughs! Mykk exclaims, "Boo! Boo!" Xanzie laughs! Mykk laughs! Mckatelee snorts, loudly. Raising her Skullcrusher whiskey to Lethargy, Donalisa gives her a toast. Lethargy chirrs contentedly to herself, her tail undulating gently back and forth. Samkim grins. Lethargy takes a sip of her punch. Mykk applauds. Cherrina takes a bite of the raspberries. Mykk takes a bite of the tart. Windreaper chuckles. Rhorgul slowly says, "There. I get it now." Dhaerk exclaims, "this spell.....I must find it!" Donalisa says, "he sure was cunning.." Rhorgul nods.

Lethargy says, "Well, besides having humor as my metier, and puns as my modus, I have at least several other talents."

Lethargy takes a sip of her punch.

Lethargy says, "Some are even performance-related."

Useff glances at Lethargy. Donalisa grins at Lethargy. Lethargy winks. Cherrina takes a bite of the raspberries. Dhaerk takes a bite of the tart. Dhaerk makes an odd noise like he just inhaled a tart. Mykk says, "Always a good performance, that's what they say."

Lethargy asks, "Does anyone know Peri'el's tale?"

Useff asks, "don't we all?"

Lethargy takes a sip of her punch. Lethargy takes a sip of her punch. Lethargy makes a chirring noise in the back of her throat.

Useff says, "but I'd wager yours is different" Xanzie grins.

Lethargy says to Useff, "I'd hope so, that all know it, but mine is merely my telling of it."

Lethargy says, "For a change of pace, I give ye this tale straight from my heart."

Lethargy enigmatically says, "Courage."

Lethargy quietly says, "Courage allows us to face that which we fear, to accept what we could not otherwise accept, and to accomplish that which we might else not manage."

Lethargy says, "It might enable us to risk a great many things, among them wealth, health, happiness, and even life."

Lethargy quietly says, "Though widely regarded as a divine attribute with which to be blessed, others might call Courage a curse rather than a virtue. I leave it for you to decide."

Lethargy recites:

"Vigil."

Lethargy recites:

"When Elanthia was yet young, having been jointly created by the 13 Immortals, who, themselves, were offspring of the One and the Void, it was already the gem that each of the Gods treasured best of all the worlds and planes of existence."

Lethargy recites:

"It was so dearly loved that Tamsine wept at the beauty of the hearth and home it would make for mortals, and Phelim gathered Her tears and set them to grace the night sky like brilliant diamonds."

Lethargy gazes off into the distance.

Lethargy recites:

"The eternal crafter, Kertigen fashioned 4 orbs at His forge, and gave them also to Phelim to set into the sky amidst Tamsine's tears. It was not His fault that He wrought exceedingly well, and one of these orbs was more than He thought it."

Lethargy recites:

"Within Grazhir, born, perhaps, of Kertigen's fervent desire to bring forth rare beauty combined with the rare and powerful fires of His forge, lay the infantile form of a Dragon, the First of Its kind."

Lethargy shivers.

Lethargy recites:

"After hundreds of years, the World Dragon hatched from out of Grazhir, shattering the orb like a shell, the shards of which struck our world painful blows. To the Dragon, a creature of fire, the chill night into which it was born was Torture."

Lethargy recites:

"Screaming with rage and pain, the World Dragon immediately lashed out in attack at that which pained it, which, to say, was an attack upon Creation itself, seeking to sustain itself on Elanthia's inner fire. The Thirteen, in all Their aspects, responded immediately to defend Their masterwork."

Lethargy quietly says, "Could a mortal even imagine what forces shook the heavens during that battle? In it, Katamba was burned BLACK!! The gods Themselves were wounded, and Elanthia herself was threatened as the World Dragon sought its refuge within her depths, where it could feed on, and bathe itself in, molten rock."

Lethargy recites:

"In the battle to keep Creation itself from destruction, Havroth's aspect, Peri'el, was gravely wounded. Once among the most fierce and capable warrior aspects of the Thirteen, Her withered leg and ravaged eye left Her unable to stand to the further defense of Elanthia."

Lethargy recites:

"As the power of the Immortals pressed the fearsome Dragon from all sides, it changed from attack to a powerful dive that plunged it, like a bolt of lightning, towards the surface of the world. It impacted with a ***crash*** that shook the foundations of the very world!"

Lethargy wobbles, looking a bit faint.

Lethargy darkly says, "As the ground shattered under the power of that dive, ripples of the shock rolled outwards from the central point, sending mountains shooting skywards, sloshing the oceans and lakes in their beds, and making the very earth quake. "

Lethargy recites:

"The remaining Immortals conferred quickly, with Tamsine divining most quickly that the Dragon had plunged into the very depths of Elanthia, seeking the molten core which would heal it and replenish its power. How could They defeat the Beast, with its ready access to limitless power with which to recover and nourish itself?"

Lethargy recites:

"Brave Peri'el, limping with what would have been deadly injuries on any creature less than a God, painfully offered to risk Herself, to spy out the World Dragon in the molten depths. Kertigen gave to Her the apron which He wore to forge the godsmetal, to protect Her from the heat, and Truffenyi gave Her magical transport to where the beast had lodged."

Lethargy recites:

"Peri'el found the Dragon drowsing, its wounds regenerating as liquid lava caressed the injuries like a mother's touch. How, She wondered, could she possibly destroy something so fierce and powerful, wounded as She was, and when all the powers of the Immortals had not yet been enough?"

Lethargy quietly says, "How indeed? And yet, as She watched it in near-slumber, she recalled the image of the lava's caress as a mother's loving touch, and She wondered if, instead of with force, She might be able to overcome the beast with gentleness. She began to sing."

Lethargy calmly sings in a soprano voice:

"I gladly sing a charm of fire,
Of flames that soothe, not burn with ire,
And lift the spirit ever higher,
    Like majestic climbing spire,
Or a raging whirlwind's frantic gyre
Which never seems to wane or tire."

Lethargy tenderly sings in a soprano voice:

"I challenge none with threat so dire-
Instead, bring all to dream's desire,
Where lilting tones might dare inspire
A sky of blue, like bold sapphire,
Through which to speed, a fearless flier
With the wind your helpful squire."

Lethargy's tail undulates passively just above the ground.

Lethargy dreamily sings in a soprano voice:

"For in mind's fierce and tangled briar,
Can be found the World entire.
So when, to slumber, we retire,
(amidst the sounds of gentle choir)
We find us free of all quagmire,
Enthralled in dreams, true joy's supplier..."

Lethargy makes a chirring noise in the back of her throat.

Lethargy recites:

"The soothing lilt and lullaby caused the slitted eyes of the drowsing Dragon to close further, and Peri'el knew She had won. At least, She thought, for as long as Her voice and will held out."

Lethargy recites:

"The other Immortals saw only the devastation already wrought, as They wrestled the natural world back into calm. With no further disturbances occurring as They awaited word from Peri'el, They began to hope."

Lethargy recites:

"As that fateful day passed into evening, Phelim went forth into the plane of dreams, and came upon the slumbering dragon immediately. In its sleepy imaginings, it was tiny, resting curled in quiet contentment, bathing in the incipient music. In His dual sight, Phelim saw the music and song coming from Peri'el, nearby."

Lethargy hauntingly says, "Imagine the sight, my friends! The Goddess, all but ruined in body, had single-handedly rendered the World Dragon quiescent. I can imagine Her ravaged gaze meeting Phelim's, seeing His unasked question: "Can it be destroyed, thus?" I can picture Her painful head-shake, Her song continuing to wind out, beautiful and unmarred as She had once been, herself."

Lethargy sighs fatalistically. Lethargy gazes off into the distance.

Lethargy recites:

"Phelim gifted Peri'el then with a sack of the Sands of Sleep, to aid Her in keeping the Dragon slumbering."

Lethargy enigmatically says, "To this day, Peri'el continues to weave song and story and music into a seamless blanket that enshrouds the World Dragon in its sleep, preventing its awakening and the inevitable destruction of Elanthia that would result. The rest of the Immortals began the healing of the world and, soon thereafter, the creation of the first mortals, leaving Peri'el in the molten depths, alone but for Elanthia's somnolent doom."

Lethargy painfully says, "I see Her there, bearing Her maiming and Her burden with the quiet resolve and indomitable will that had been Her attributes when She had yet been one of the most valiant and puissant warriors among the Immortals."

Lethargy hauntingly says, "I see Her alone, in darkness, bravely spinning soft lullaby and quiet tale without end, resolute."

Lethargy gnaws on her lip.

Lethargy says, "I marvel at Her strength, Her courage, and Her peace."

A tear runs down Lethargy's face.

Lethargy quietly says, "Praise Peri'el, savior of Elanthia."

Lethargy bobs down and back up in a quick curtsy.

Lethargy says, "Well, where does that leave us tae explore."

Mckatelee asks, "Bawdiness?" Useff says, "I think the kids are asleep, now" Mckatelee winks at Lethargy. Lethargy chuckles at Mckatelee. Lethargy says to Mckatelee, "We started there, nae so long ago." Lethargy smirks. Mckatelee says, "Ah, well, I was late" Mckatelee winks at Lethargy. Lethargy takes a sip of her ale. Lethargy grins. Lethargy ponders.

Lethargy says, "Bawdy, then, again."

Lethargy ponders.

Lethargy says, "Well, there is a jest or two I know which might suffice..."

Lethargy recites:

"So there I was, sitting in this tavern down the road, when a gent in a long cloak walks in and asks for a drink from the bartender."

Lethargy recites:

"And the bartender says "Well, it'll cost ye this many kronars", and the gent says "How about some entertainment instead of coin?"

Lethargy smiles knowingly.

Lethargy recites:

"So the bartender shrugs and says "What ye got?", and the gent reaches into corner of his cloak and pulls out what looks like a toy piano, setting it on the bartop."

Lethargy licks her lips.

Lethargy recites:

"Then he reaches into another corner of the cloak and pulls out a tiny piano stool, and finally, a foot-high figurine, and sets them all down on the bar top."

Lethargy recites:

"Now, both I and the bartender are shocked when the figure starts walking, and sits down on the piano stool, and starts playing an intricate fugue on the piano. And playing it well!!"

Lethargy clucks her tongue and shakes her head.

Lethargy recites:

"The bartender and I are amazed, and he asks before I can, "How in the name of the Thirteen did ye find such a wonder?"

Lethargy recites:

"So the gent smirks and pulls out a brass lantern, saying "Aye, I found this ancient magical lamp on the beaches of Aesry, and when I rubbed it, this magical being came out and offered tae grant me a wish!"

Lethargy scoffs.

Lethargy recites:

"So while I'm thinking this is some kinda joke, the bartender grabs the lamp and rubs it, and sure enough, out pops this wispy creature and the bartender yells "I want a thousand gold kronars!""

Lethargy blinks.

Lethargy recites:

"Suddenly, in the bar, are a thousand grey-haired men and women who immediately start groaning in pain and complaint!"

Lethargy smiles as you register that a "thousand old groaners" have suddenly appeared in this bar.

Lethargy recites:

"So I'm flustered, but the bartender is simply shocked as the gent says, "Ye did nae let me tell ye that the magical creature cannae hear too good!"

Lethargy recites:

"The bartender blinks disbelievingly, still in shock, as the gent leans over the bar conspiritorially."

Lethargy smirks. Lethargy teasingly asks, "Sure, ye think I asked for a 12 inch 'pianist'?"

Lethargy smirks.

Donalisa says, "oh that's awful" Dhaerk says, "awful is good though" Useff grins at Donalisa. Lethargy chirrs contentedly to herself, her tail undulating gently back and forth. Dhaerk nods. Paschein says, "Ye always were bad." Mckatelee says, "Just bad enough to be good" Mckatelee winks at Paschein. Lethargy says to Paschein, "Oh, aye, and the years have only honed it worse."

Markhor asks, "Did you hear the one about the two Bards who left the tavern?" Useff says, "that's a myth" Mykk says, "Never." Mykk chuckles. Xanzie says, "never" Markhor sarcastically says, "Well, it could have happened..." Lethargy snickers. Xanzie grins at Markhor. Mykk laughs! Lethargy ponders. Mykk winks at Paschein. Paschein grins at Mykk. Lethargy says, "Well, ye know what there is tae say about bards...." Paschein winks. Xanzie smiles. Paschein nods to Lethargy.

Lethargy teasingly sings in a soprano voice:

"They say bards are good at 'the dance',
    And especially good at romance-
    But I truly think
That their strength lies in drink,
And getting in each other's pants!"

Toe bells jangling rhythmically, Lethargy stamps her feet in a light shimmer of sound.

Lethargy says, "Speaking of bards...."

Lethargy chuckles. Lethargy takes a sip of her ale.

Lethargy says, "This is an older one, but since we're talking of bards and all..."

Lethargy flashes a wide grin.

Lethargy says, "Ye'll bear with me. Or bare with me? Heh, we can hope for both, mayhap."

Lethargy recites:

"And now for "The Maestro's Tomb", by me."

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Four youngish bards sought, to not look o'erwrought,
As debated they merits of quests.
"'Tis fame that we seek, so we daren't seem weak,
The tougher the challenge, that's best!""

Lethargy says, "Can sing with me, ye bards and bardesses, if ye like."

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"They looked at each other, 1 sister, 3 brothers,
The eldest fair sang out their "doom":
"It's nae question, of course, we must to the source-
We must brace us the Maestro's fell tomb!"."

Lethargy beams!

Roboson's bass, Useff's countertenor and Donalisa's mezzo-soprano join with Lethargy's soprano as she sings:

"As one they all sighed, and the youngest one cried:
"Must we truly risk death tae go there?"
"We mustn't show fear- we could make our reps here!
For who'd respect bards who'd be scared?!""

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"With thoughts on a journey (good enough for a tourney!),
They set forth on one chilly night.
With weapons well-honed and their instruments toned,
And their cloaks, against cold, bundled tight."

Lethargy adjusts her leather cloak. Lethargy shivers.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"To the graveyard they crept, while sane folk all slept,
"Are we sure this will improve our reps?"
All nervously stood: "I'm nae feeling so good",
Murmured one, as they stood on Tomb's steps."

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

""Must we go on inside?", the youngest bard cried,
"We'll be risking our deaths once in there!"
The eldest said: " Here, we must not show fear,
For who'd respect bards who'd be scared?!""

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The girl hefted lyre, but held her sword higher.
The eldest reached for the Tomb's key.
The youngest bard shuddered, and feelingly muttered,
"I'm trying hard not to pee!""

Lethargy winks. Lethargy smiles and bonks her knees together.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The door they pulled wide- it was quite dark inside!-
The foul stench of ages rushed out.
One pulled out his tinder and lit up a cinder:
"We'll need it inside, beyond doubt!""

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

""Must we go on inside?", the youngest bard cried,
"We'll be risking our deaths once in there!"
The eldest said: " Here, we must not show fear,
For who'd respect bards who'd be scared?!""

An expression of wonder flickers over Lethargy's face.

Lethargy gasps!

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Inside they slipped, bringing light to the crypt,
What they saw brought them utterest chill!
The corpse of the master, of bone alabaster,
Sat upright with parchment and quill!"

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The bards exchanged looks, as the corpse scratched its books,
"What's he do over there, ye s'pposing?"
The maestro, decayed, turned slowly their way,
"What ye think, ye young pups..."

Lethargy yells, "Decomposing!!!!!"

Lethargy giggles. Lethargy curtsies.

Lethargy asks, "On a more serious note, how many here enjoy dancing?"

Lethargy asks, "Has anyone noticed how dancing with someone else can either be extremely romantic or something more in the arena of wrestling?"

Lethargy says, "Very well, I did actually have one of those in mind." Lethargy winks. Lethargy puts her ale on a polished wooden bar.

Dhaerk asks, "a wrestle?" Dhaerk hums to himself. Lethargy winks at Dhaerk.

Lethargy recites:

"And now, "The Dance of the Katars", by Me, with choreography assistance from Kithria Dustdanser."

Lethargy gets an ivory-hilted katar from inside her weapon harness. Lethargy gets a katar from inside her weapon harness.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The Dance of the Katar is quite a special one indeed
Born in dry Muspar'i land, out of salacious need
The twirls and slashes of the dance, are frightful in their form
With stinging, o'erwhelming force like sudden desert storms..."

Lethargy shows you all the contrasting katars, one ivory white, the other black, and she starts to twirl, slowly.

Lethargy longingly sings in a soprano voice:

"When man or damsel draws one forth to do the fiery dance
'tis clear they have desire in their each and every glance
The veils that hide the secrets and which foster raw deceit
Are slashed and fall, like childish toys, unneeded, at your feet..."

Toe bells jangling rhythmically, Lethargy stamps her feet in a light shimmer of sound.

Lethargy begins to spin more urgently now, the katars flashing so quickly that they appear a white and black blur.

Toe bells jangling rhythmically, Lethargy stamps her feet in a light shimmer of sound.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The protestations of the dancers fall from traitor lips
True emotion 'stead revealed by willing eyes and hips
The sensuous involvement of a body in that motion
Is monstrously intoxicating, more than any potion!"

Lethargy slashes the air as her body strains to maintain the flashing pace. An exotic humming from the blades provides a counterpoint to her sultry voice.

Lethargy hauntingly sings in a soprano voice:

"Blades will whirl with fiendish skill in time to heart's hot beat
While cleverness and lusty purpose drive the stamping feet
The gleaming silver edge which fairly sizzles through the air
Is altar and the offering, of soul itself laid bare."

Arms outstretched, Lethargy fans her gauze skirt wide, fluttering like the wings of some brilliant butterfly.

Lethargy clashes the two katar blades together, once, the resounding ring spinning out from her in a wash of sound.

Lethargy kicks one foot out in a graceful arc, and with a dip of her shoulders and a tinkling of toe bells, she pirouettes in a dazzling spin!

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Bodies glisten, touch-sense 'listens', heady scents hang cloyingly
Deep and musky, jasmine, saffron, wreathe around enjoyingly-
The Dance demands totality of purpose from those who attempt it
Divine hybrid, body/bodkin, joined so smooth one might have dreamt it..."

Toe bells jingling in a staccato cadence and feet a blur of motion, Lethargy throws her head back and lifts her arms high in the sheer joy of dance.

Lethargy abandons herself to the sheer joy of dancing, her chest heaving with the effort, katars weaving around her.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Katar dancing melds a mortal to eternal, living blade
Steaming flesh, analogous, to fiery forge where Katar's made
Dance leaves dancer panting, flushed, in tune with desert's stormy season
Cold katar remains unchanged, ultimate tool of unreason..."

Lethargy weaves the blades in a sinuous pattern, perilously close to her own flesh.

In one sinuous motion, Lethargy arches her back and kicks high, then executes a little leap, landing catlike in a jingle of toe bells.

Lethargy dreamily sings in a soprano voice:

"When the dancers and the watchers go their way to consummate
Season's coming, the katar remains vital, lust incarnate
The dance is never truly finished, mortal weakness, brief cessation
Human passion, iron's fashion, seasons passing, hesitation...
And then, the dance begins anew..."

Lethargy puts her katar in her weapon harness. Lethargy puts her katar in her weapon harness. Lethargy curtsies.

Lethargy says, "Alot happens under the influence of strong drink." Lethargy ponders. Lethargy says, "Sometimes, that drink." Lethargy says, "And the 6 or 8 which follow..." Lethargy grins sheepishly. Lethargy says, "Lead tae a door." Lethargy says, "... a door tae one's own personal darkness." Lethargy says, "And once through that door, the darkness can make you feel, well, less substantial." Lethargy says, "Mired in the darkness. And when that happens to a bardess...." Lethargy smiles a wide smile with too many teeth showing to make you feel entirely comfortable.

Lethargy says, "Ladies and Gentlemen... "

Lethargy pauses dramatically and lights a small candle which begins to throw its faint, flickering light everywhere in the room...

Lethargy makes eye contact with each of you, as she appears to consider her next words carefully...

Lethargy enigmatically asks, "Shadows are an enigma, don't you think? Is there any other thing in the world that is, itself, darkness, but which nae only dies in complete darkness, but thrives only in light?"

Lethargy quietly says, "Shadows themselves never touch the light.... they are protected from it by that which throws the shadow..."

Lethargy stares off into the far distance, her attention only partly on what she's saying, trying to see to some deeper meaning.

Lethargy says, "and they exist anywhere that the light is not total, seemingly to mock light's impotence to banish them..."

Lethargy inhales suddenly and shudders, her eyes regaining some measure of focus.

Lethargy says, "I offer fer ye're consideration "The Lady of Shadows", by me."

Lethargy positions herself where her own shadow splashes onto the wall to your left, standing immobile, mute, inert... almost formless.

Lethargy quietly sings in a soprano voice:

"Where but from light, spring shadows?
    More evil than purest night,
    In dimmest light,
    They yet thrive.."

Lethargy quivers first one shoulder, then the other, your attention captured by the impression of her shadow on the wall containing something which is trying to break free of its shadowy confines...

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Shadows, themselves, are hidden from light-
In brazen ecstasy they defy it!
In darkness full, they have no power
Yet, o the light!, they despise it!"

Lethargy raises one hand, clawing her fingers and making small snapping motions to first one side, then the other, as her shadow appears to have something malignant inside it, threatening to break free from its prison at any moment...

Lethargy darkly sings in a soprano voice:

"Darkness has a hunger that's insatiable
And Light a beckon far too faint to hear...
Shadows sneak from those who face the light and
Stand for what's both frightened and most feared..."

Lethargy turns slightly at an angle and rocks back and forth slowly, her shadow seeming to lengthen on the wall and twitch left and right, looking for a place to hide itself...

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Can any of us bravely face the light
When shadows from our private self will rise?
Who will give their shadow such grave power,
To hold their soul and heart trapped in a vise?"

Lethargy hunches down to throw a sneaky, blob-like shadow on the wall beside you, which, due to the bardess' acute movements, appears to cavort in unholy glee...

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"All of us are mixtures of two forces-
Of light and dark in Gods' unequal mix!
Is nae it true that shadows are the offspring,
Crowding 'round inside us, miles thick?!?"

Lethargy thrusts her elbows and knees away from her side and back, rapidly, uncoordinatedly, to make her shadow look like it's made of millions of shadows barely holding a shape together...

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The shadows that in light we cast
Are more than those we see!
Know your shadows, friends, and ward!
It's us they seek to be...!"

Lethargy stretches her arms wide to wrap around herself, so that shadow arms on the wall seem to engulf her own figure in the flickering candlelight, which grows ever darker, as the small candle burns itself to dark.

Lethargy curtsies amid the sudden silence, the sudden darkness, and shivers to herself.

Lethargy shivers. Lethargy sips at her rum. Lethargy smiles delightedly. Lethargy chirrs contentedly to herself, her tail undulating gently back and forth.

Lethargy says, "Alright, I'd like tae ask the audience now."

Lethargy says, "Ye've been wonderfully receptive of me this eve, and I'm minded tae perform once more for ye afore the night gets so late that the bartenders throw us out."

Lethargy snorts derisively. Lethargy ponders how likely THAT would be to happen. Mykk says, "Not the Burdocs, our money is good here."

Lethargy says, "I will ask ye then tae help me choose what tae perform last."

Lethargy asks, "First decision: tale or song?"

Mykk says, "Well, I like new ones, Lethargy, but I still say one of your funniest is Duliss' Tale."

Lethargy recites:

"I would now like tae sing fer ye "The Tale of a Tail", or "Duliss' Story", by me."

A shout of laughter comes from a nearby table. Mykk says, "See, they've heard it too."

Lethargy smiles and holds up a small sign suggesting that if ye're a bard, ye ought tae sing with her. Lethargy takes a drink of her rum.

Lethargy smiles and holds up a smaller sign suggesting that if ye be easily offended, ye might want tae leave now. Lethargy grins at Mykk. Lethargy smiles mischievously.

Lethargy smiles and holds up a tiny card which reads, when you squint: "If you can read this sign, you are not drunk enough yet!"

Mykk bounces around happily. Lethargy just tickled Mykk. Lethargy grins. Lethargy takes a drink of her rum, and only some of it dribbles down her chin. Mykk guzzles down some of his Favor and then smacks his lips and wipes them with his sleeve. Mykk gasps and chokes as his face takes on a bright reddish hue!

Useff asks, "what'd that one say?" Dhaerk asks, "wha tha one say?" Dhaerk squints. Breazewin ponders.

Lethargy confidently sings in a soprano voice:

"The skald had been blessed beyond all measure:
    Handsome, quick-witted, lilt-voiced, and strong.
With all this, though, what caused greatest of pleasure
Was his tail: gods! an extra 9 inches long!"

Lethargy teasingly sings in a soprano voice:

"Among the ladies he was oft sought after-
A dozen or more would leap to his side-
He'd woo them with fine song and bright, gentle laughter,
While twitching his tail up and down, side to side."

Lethargy's tail rolls up and down in a smooth undulation. Lethargy's tail undulates passively just above the ground.

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

   "He whipped out his extra
    9 inches of tail-
The one tool with which he could never fail!
The one tool with which he could never fail!"

Lethargy smirks. Daerlynn rolls her eyes.

Lethargy matter-of-factly sings in a soprano voice:

"A tale is told of his mythical journeys-
I can tell ye it whole, from beginning to end.
I composed it especially for the great Tourney,
But I'll detail the tale of his tail fer ye, friends."

Daerlynn exclaims, "Men!" Mykk bounces around happily. Lethargy grins at Daerlynn. Lethargy smiles and winks at you as she assumes a dramatic pose. Donalisa chuckles. Daerlynn grins at Lethargy.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"He had travelled prodigious, and ranged far and near,
With danger the honey that sweetened his days.
What sweetened his nights were great flagons of beer!,
Which he would consume 'til the suns early rays."

Lethargy smiles impishly and catches her tail in her hand just as she reaches the chorus...

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

"Then he'd whip out his extra
    9 inches of tail-
The one tool with which he could never fail!
The one tool with which he could never fail!"

Lethargy wryly sings in a soprano voice:

"Once during travels, to a town he had come-
A town blessed with taverns 'pon near every street.
He sampled the whiskey, the ale, and the rum
And got sloshed 'til he weaved back and forth on his feet."

Lethargy wobbles, looking a bit faint.

Lethargy dryly sings in a soprano voice:

"He'd caroled and crawled from one bar tae another-
He'd pinched all the wenches and so made them giggle.
Then one whom he'd pinched complained to her brother.
Challenged to duel, Duliss' tail twitched and wiggled!"

A look of cold menace crosses Lethargy's features, and her hands fall to her sides, her tail lashing at the ground with a sharp, angry slap! A look of cold menace crosses Lethargy's features, and her hands fall to her sides, her tail lashing at the ground with a sharp, angry slap!

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

   "He whipped out his extra
    9 inches of tail-
He walloped that brother with it like a flail!
He walloped that brother with it like a flail!"

Lethargy matter-of-factly sings in a soprano voice:

"He'd had all their wenches inside of a week-
He'd fought jealous lovers day in and day out.
The defeated insulted: "It's so long, ye're a freak!"
But the girls merely marvelled and cooed: "Ooh! And so stout!!""

Lethargy smugly sings in a soprano voice:

"He'd finally left town to journey some more:
The women all begged him to stay for a time!
He'd deflowered virgins and wizened the whores
By dazzling them all with his tail, songs, and rhymes."

Useff says, "Women" Lethargy licks her lips. Donalisa grins at Useff. Lethargy grins smugly at Useff. Daerlynn gives Useff a gentle poke in the ribs.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"He travelled on westward and came to a castle.
He was hailed at the drawbridge by the guard at the gate.
He passed on a bribe to avoid any hassle
Then hurried inside for 'twas getting late."

Lethargy smiles at you as she rubs her thumb and forefinger together with an avaricious gleam in her eye.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Once inside, though, the steward inquired his name.
He answered him true, boasting he was a bard.
The steward asked slyly: "From the city, ye came?"
At Duliss' nod, he backpedaled!, yelled: "Guard!!!!!!!""

Lethargy's tail stands rigid against her back, the scales along it lifting to form an alarmed, serrated edge. Lethargy gasps!

Lethargy smiles and then winks outrageously at you, knowing the power of a bards' reputation to entrance or shock, as the case may be.

Lethargy loudly sings in a soprano voice:

""It's HIM!" cried the steward, in fearful backpedal.
Some soldiers advanced with their pikes held up ready:
"Come knave, disarm! Will ye test ALL our mettle?"
Then they looked in his eyes, saw him fearless and steady."

Lethargy snickers. The tip of Lethargy's tail makes lazy circles in the air.

Lethargy folds her arms and lifts her head, a proud gleam in her eye and her tail resting firmly against the ground.

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

   "He whipped out his extra
    9 inches of tail-
The one tool with which he could never fail!
The one tool with which he could never fail!"

Lethargy smiles and dances around the room like a comical whirlwind, shaking her tail at you so close that you have to flinch!!

Lethargy cheerfully sings in a soprano voice:

"After besting the pikemen in deadly, pitched battle,
He grappled the steward and threatened him harm.
The steward did tremble and begin to prattle:
Duliss pinned him to ground with one scaled, mighty arm."

Lethargy lashes her tail in agitation. Lethargy winks. Lethargy giggles.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"'Twas then that twin sisters who lived in the keep
Descended the stairs to the battle-strewn hall.
They stared in amazement at the guards in a heap:
"How, by the gods!, did ye manage them all??!??!""

Lethargy inhales a great swallow of air. The tip of Lethargy's tail makes lazy circles in the air. Lethargy winks.

A chorus of voices join with Lethargy's leading soprano as she sings:

   "He whipped out his extra
    9 inches of tail-
The one tool with which he could never fail!
The one tool with which he could never fail!"

Lethargy hums a song so cheerful it makes you nauseous.

Lethargy smugly sings in a soprano voice:

"With a glance at the steward, he sat up, then stood-
He bowed his most charming and answered with grin:
"For such lovely ladies, I found that I could
Put my tail to brave use and the fierce battle win!""

Mykk gets an impish expression on his face, and lets out a hearty cheer. Lethargy snickers. Donalisa grins. Roboson quietly says, "mmmmm twins..." Mykk exclaims, "Tell us more about the sisters!"

Lethargy teasingly sings in a soprano voice:

"O'er dinner, Dulisss was his most clever and witty.
The ladies fenced verbal and teased him excessive.
They were quite a pair, both alarmingly pretty!
And they giggled and flirted: "That tail's most impressive!""

Donalisa chuckles at Roboson. Lethargy winks at Mykk. Lethargy's tail undulates passively just above the ground. Lethargy leans over and licks Roboson, getting a warm smile in return.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"When supper was done with they led him upstairs
He raised an eyebrow and asked: "What, both together?!"
They smirked and winked at him: "We're sisters, we share!"
They snickered and drew off his surcoat of leather..."

Lethargy smiles and fans herself as if she's feeling a bit warm.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"The three of them frolicked far into the night-
The mighty-thewed bard and the 2 ladies wanton.
In the bed, while he pleasured the one on his right,
The other knew bliss from his tail's finest flauntin'!!!!!""

Donalisa chuckles. Daerlynn quietly says, "I need a sister..." Lethargy gasps! Lethargy covers her eyes with her hand. Mykk gets an impish expression on his face, and lets out a hearty cheer. Daerlynn giggles. Elizzibiana chortles softly at some secret joke. Donalisa laughs! Lethargy smiles and peeks out from between two of her fingers and giggles. Mckatelee laughs at Daerlynn. Dhaerk chuckles at Daerlynn.

Lethargy sings in a soprano voice:

"Thus Dulisss brought joy to the twins' happy castle
He lived with them long, loving hearty and hale-
The moral's quite simple: If ye find yereself hassled,
Ye'll find nae finer tool than a TALENTED TAIL!!!"

Lethargy's tail undulates passively just above the ground. Lethargy's tail rolls up and down in a smooth undulation. Lethargy smiles at you and gathers up her wayward tail, preparing to curtsy, but she seems to be finding some difficulty accomplishing this because her tail apparently wants to bow on its own at the same time! Lethargy giggles. Lethargy curtsies.

Lethargy says, "My friends, ye've been a delight taenight."

Lethargy sinks into a deep curtsy.

Lethargy says, "Thankee, thankee, and thankee."

Daerlynn recites:

"Let's all hear it once more for Lethargy!"
