Event Name: Praxium Introduction
Event Instance: Prime
Real Date: 2022-07-28
Game Date of Event: Unknown Date
Point of View: Rakkor
You exclaim, "Alright everyone!"

You say, "Glad to have you here tonight."

Alisabeth hugs Betlind, getting a smile in return.

You say, "I'm going to formally kick things off."

Madigan snaps to attention and hails Crobin with a crisp hand salute.

You say, "Let me just say in advance...wow."

You say, "I'm blown away by the attendance tonight."

You say, "Welcome everyone, to the first night of the Battle Praxium. This has been a long time coming, and I want to thank you all for coming tonight, ready to learn."

Iryta smiles at you, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

You look around, trying to appear nonchalant.

Aetheline beams at you! What a warm feeling!

Elurora nods to you.

You say, "There are a lot of faces here that I'm unfamiliar with. That's exciting! If we have not personally met in the past, I'm Rakkor Solari, Cleric of Chadatru. I have a passion to teach and to help people grow in their abilities.

You smile.

You say, "By being here, each of us is saying that we have a desire to learn. A desire to be better than we are now at combat, specifically against other adventurers. In that endeavor, whether this will be the first time you cross blades with another person, or the thousandth, we all are Students."

You say, "For those just joining, we just kicked off."

You ask, "Meli, if you'd please one more time?"

Melindrha chants in a soprano voice:

"Based on the noisy nature of life, could you please put away all books, zills, crystals, pets and familiars, noisy clothing, etc? Thank you"

You say, "Thank you, Meli."

You say, "Ultimately, the Praxium is a place of learning."

You say, "All of us have more to learn when it comes to combat against other adventurers."

You say, "Some of us may be brand new to the idea."

Remyngton smiles at you, revealing the dimples in his cheeks.

You say, "Others...well...we may have crossed bladed dozens or hundreds of times."

You smile at Raikage.

Shaylynne grins.

Akeiro waves to Raikage.

Raikage flashes a wide grin.

You say, "There are a variety of ways that people learn. One of the best ways to learn is by listening, understanding, and then doing. That is what the Praxium is all about. The Praxium is an institution where knowledge and skills are applied in practice, rather than in theory alone. Our goal, collectively, is combat knowledge correctly applied."

You say, "You've come here to learn more about combat against adventurers. To that end, you will fight other adventurers..."

You grin.

You say, "...after you've had some instruction along the way."

Almarius exclaims, "Uh oh! I don't wanna get beat up!"

You wink.

Aetheline beams at you! What a warm feeling!

Elurora chuckles at you!

Iryta grins at Almarius, her dimples flashing into view.

Siendra moves over to guard Almarius.

Sliyder puffs out his chest and struts around!

You say, "Each time you come to a session of the Praxium, you'll encounter the same general flow for the evening. We'll begin with Attitude, the mental and emotional approach to combat with adventurers."

You say, "After Attitude, we'll move on to Instruction, where you will accumulate knowledge of mechanics."

You say, "We'll proceed from there to Implementation, the practical usage of the learned mechanics in practice against myself, your other instructors, or with each other."

You say, "Finally, we'll end every night with Application. You learn to fight by fighting. Not just listening to a lecture, no matter how great the content may or may not be. Application moves knowledge from here..."

Shaylynne nods to you.

You tap a golden-hooded loimic chain balaclava embellished with a demonbone faceguard that you are wearing.

You say, "To here."

You tap yourself on the chest.

Elurora nods at you, obviously agreeing with your views.

Aetheline nods to you.

You say, "With all of that being said, I want to point out some of the other faces who have raised their hands to Instruct at the Praxium. Leustyin, Warrior Mage. Madigan, Paladin. And Kalderen, Warrior Mage. They've volunteered time, effort, and energy to help each of us learn...and for that I'm thankful."

You wave to Leustyin.

You wave to Madigan.

You wave to Kalderen.

Dantia raises an eyebrow in Madigan's direction.

Tirost nods.

Akeiro lets out a hearty cheer for Leustyin!

Akeiro lets out a hearty cheer for Madigan!

Akeiro lets out a hearty cheer for Kalderen!

Betlind applauds.

Sekmeht lets out a hearty cheer for Madigan!

You say, "We also have some of our guest speakers in the audience tonight as well."

Elurora applauds.

Betlind gets an impish expression on her face, and lets out a hearty cheer.

Alisabeth gets an impish expression on her face, and lets out a hearty cheer.

>wave raik

You wave to Raikage.

Zalinyar applauds.

You wave to Dantia.

You wave to Akeiro.

You wave to Golameth.

Akeiro and Dantia highfive each other.

Akeiro grins at Dantia.

You say, "These people have raised their hands and offered to teach, train, and otherwise indoctrinate what looks to be a lively crowd over the next few weeks."

You grin.

You ask, "Kalderen will be leading the rest of the session tonight. Kalderen, if you'd please?"

Kalderen coughs.

Kalderen nods.

Aetheline lets out a hearty cheer for Kalderen!

Iryta smiles at Kalderen, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Sliyder lets out a hearty cheer for Kalderen!

Dantia smiles at Kalderen.

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and applauds!

Roletiel looks at you and lets out a hearty cheer on your behalf!

Nodding graciously, Kalderen bends in a slight bow.

Siendra looks at Kalderen and applauds!

Aetheline looks at you and applauds!

Tankata lets out a loud "Huzzah!"

Tankata says, "Thank you teachers."

Kalderen says, "As was the case for Rakkor, most of the folks here are new to me. I'm Kalderen Lunari, not to be confused with Kaldean Lunari. He's family though, so I'll claim him."

Kalderen winks.

Siendra smiles.

Elurora giggles at Kalderen.

Aetheline grins, revealing her dimples.

Dantia appears to be trying hard not to grin.

Sliyder snickers.

Kalderen says, "That may have been a joke for Dantia."

Kalderen grins at Dantia.

Illiya just nudged Dantia.

Kalderen says, "Perhaps my most notable contribution to the landscape of adventurer versus adventurer combat was the rediscovery of the practical use of elemental weapons for combat against other adventurers."

Golameth pats Dantia on the back.

Dantia grins at Kalderen.

Closing his eyes, Kalderen grunts briefly in effort as a small electrical ethereal fissure opens in front of him. Thrusting his hand through, Kalderen draws out an electric marauder blade. As Kalderen opens his eyes, the fissure closes.

Kalderen taps an electric marauder blade that he is holding.

Kalderen says, "You'll hear from me the most of the next nine weeks, but I won't be your only instructor. There will be a plethora of guest speakers, particularly during the "Know your Guild" breakout sessions. But practical Application will be your primary instructor."

Tirost nods to Kalderen.

Siendra nods.

Kalderen says, "Remember, each session we'll be walking through Attitude, Instruction, Implementation, and Application."

Kalderen says, "And don't worry, there will be a test on that."

Kalderen winks.

Aetheline giggles.

Nawain chuckles.

Elurora glances at Kalderen.

Sliyder snickers.

Kalderen says, "Let's enter the Attitude portion of tonight."

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Kalderen asks, "In adventurer versus adventurer combat, how do we win? When you are victorious, when you've won the spar, the duel, or the open field ambush, how is your Attitude in that moment? How, in that moment, do you win?"

Kalderen says, "(Not a rhetorical, feel free to answer)."

Iryta says, "Pretty sure I'm here to find that out."

Elurora says, "Thank the person I fought against."

Kalderen grins at Iryta.

Melindrha says, "Some of us have no idea, so no answer."

Aetheline asks, "You win when you finally satiate your bloodlust?"

Siendra asks, "Everyone is still friends?"

Madigan says, "When you learn something from the fight."

Kalderen says, "Remember, this is about your Attitude, not about your tactics."

Keemar says, "The first strike is important."

Hatham quietly says, "With humility.."

Alisabeth says, "My wins have always been beginner's luck. True story."

Tambellis joylessly says, "When you do what you trained to do correctly."

Kalderen grins at Madigan.

Plake says, "When you feel the rush."

Elemis says, "If both people are happy."

Kalderen beams at Hatham!

Kalderen exclaims, "Hatham, you're on the right track there!"

Zalinyar beams in loving admiration at Hatham!

Iryta smiles at Hatham, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Kalderen says, "Attitude is essential, and forms the bedrock for your engagement with others."

Kalderen says, "Here at the Praxium, when an Instructor asks you, "How do we win?" we answer as follows: "With grace, offering encouragement to your opponent."

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Kalderen grins.

Kalderen says, "As before, there may be a test later."

Kalderen chuckles.

Elurora furrows her brow.

Aetheline jots down some notes.

Kalderen says, "OOC: Humility looks good on everyone, never more than when you've bested your opponent. Winning with grace, and offering encouragement to the person you bested is the first of many steps you can take to ensure that the player behind the screen playing the same game that you're playing continues to have fun. We play games to have fun. Winning with class helps everyone have fun."

Aetheline nods to Kalderen.

Alisabeth nods at Kalderen, obviously agreeing with his views.

Kalderen asks, "So that's the question "How do we win?"

Kalderen asks, "Second question of the night. What are victories?"

Almarius gazes at Kalderen.

Roletiel says, "Survival."

Elurora says, "Anything you learn from."

Kalderen smiles at Roletiel.

Zalinyar says, "Learning."

Kalderen nods to Elurora.

Crobin says, "With grace, and encouragement to our opponent."

Akeiro nods to Elurora.

Iryta smiles at Elurora, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Kalderen nods at Zalinyar, obviously agreeing with her views.

Remyngton says, "Everyone having fun."

Kalderen chuckles at Crobin.

Golameth exclaims, "Crushing my enemies beneath my booth and bathing in their tears!"

Kalderen says to Crobin, "That's how we win, not what a victory is."

Iryta looks at Golameth, obviously trying not to grin, but the dimples in her cheeks give her away.

Kalderen winks at Crobin.

Iryta says, "Pretty sure it means something different to everyone."

Kalderen says, "I heard a lot of good answers there. Here at the Praxium, when an Instructor asks you, "What are victories?" we answer as follows: "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Tirost nods to Kalderen.

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Kalderen says, "OOC: This goes hand-hand-in hand with our first question and answer. We win with grace and humility. By doing so, we encourage others to continue to engage with us. Grace and humility can build bridges with opposing sides that would otherwise turn antagonistic. They help more people have more fun, which should be our goal with in-game conflict."

Kalderen says, "OOC: The opposite of grace and humility is when we beat someone soundly and revel in it. We rub their face in it. That will not, ever, engender the kind of long term fun interaction that in-game conflict is supposed to have."

Kalderen asks, "Remember how I said there would be a test?"

Kalderen smiles.

Aetheline nods emphatically at Kalderen.

Elurora nods to Kalderen.

Kalderen asks, "Let's practice those two. Praxium, how do we win?"

Elurora says, "Humility."

Elemis says, "With grace, offering encouragement to your opponent."

Nawain says, "With grace, offering encouragement to your opponent."

Tirost says, "We win with grace and humility."

Aetheline exclaims, "With humility and grace and lots of blood!"

Crobin says, "With grace, and encouragement to our opponent."

Kalderen laughs!

Hatham quietly says, "With grace offering encouragement."

Aetheline looks extremely pleased with herself.

Melindrha says, "With grace and humility."

Elemis grins.

Kalderen grins.

Kalderen says, "We'll get there."

Akeiro grins.

Tirost chuckles.

Kalderen says, "Let's try the second question..."

Kalderen asks, "Praxium, what are victories?"

Sekmeht says, "With grace and humility."

Mazilyn says, "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Crobin says, "By getting stabbed less then the other guys."

Vaddon humbly says, "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Plake says, "With grace offering encouragement."

Nawain says, "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Sekmeht grins.

Nawain nods.

Kalderen nods at Vaddon, obviously agreeing with his views.

Elemis says, "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Kalderen points at Vaddon.

Kalderen points at Nawain.

Aetheline exclaims, "Opportunities for blood and humility!"

Elurora quietly says to Iryta, "I think he was hoping for exact answers."

Melindrha says, "Opportunities for humility."

Kalderen says, "That's a bit better."

Kalderen says, "Your Attitude during wins and victories aren't the only thing we're concerned about, though. Our response in a loss is equally as important as when we win."

Aetheline jots down some notes.

Almarius quietly says, "Victories are Grace and humility, not trying to get your opponent to laught and giggle so they don't wanna punch you in the face..."

Kalderen asks, "Third question for the night. If the answer to "How do we win?" was "With grace, offering encouragement to your opponent"...then "How do we lose?"

Almarius jots down some notes.

Elurora slowly asks, "With grace?"

Siendra asks, "The same way?"

Siendra cocks her head.

Iryta raises her hand.

Iryta says, "If you are me? Easily."

Melindrha asks, "Not being butt hurt?"

Illiya grins at Iryta, her dimples flashing into view.

Nawain nods to Siendra.

Aetheline says, "Also with blood."

Aetheline nods.

Illiya nods to Melindrha.

Elemis says, "The same way."

Roletiel says, "With grace."

Mazilyn says, "With grace, offering encouragement to your opponent."

Lanikarou asks, "Laugh it off and learn from mistakes?"

Kalderen nods.

Kalderen says, "You are getting the hang of this."

Hatham quietly says, "The same way."

Greyhallow sighs.

Zalinyar says, "With bad sportsmanship and attitude."

Aetheline looks extremely pleased with herself.

Kalderen says, "Here at the Praxium, when an Instructor asks you, "How do we lose?" we answer as follows: "With dignity, and a desire to do better."

Alisabeth nods to Kalderen.

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Kalderen paces back and forth.

Golameth nods to Kalderen.

Kalderen says, "OOC: No one likes a sore loser. Losses are often the very best opportunities to learn and grow, but also tell us a lot about the character of the person behind the screen. Taking losses personal leads to not great things in-game. Remember...this is a game and we play it to have fun. You can have fun in a loss, and when you do so it almost never reflects poorly on you or your character. Quite the contrary, it encourages people to meet you where you're at, and to engage (positively) with you more."

Aetheline nods emphatically at Kalderen.

Dantia nods at Kalderen, obviously agreeing with his views.

Leustyin nods to Kalderen.

Kalderen says, "Let me say that again to be clear. OOC: No one else thinks any less of you when you lose. This is a game that we're playing to have fun. We're all sitting at a keyboard, interacting with others. Conflict is one of those ways to have fun."

You cough.

You say, "To interject there for a moment, Kalderen."

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Leustyin says, "Losing is never fun, but losing with a good attitude is _much_ better than the alternative."

You say, "I've died to Raikage...a few times..."

You grin at Raikage.

Illiya nods to Leustyin.

Akeiro nods to Leustyin.

Raikage grins evilly.

You ask, "Raikage, you've died a handful of times to me as well, correct?"

Zalinyar asks, "Who hasnt?"

Emmajin quietly asks, "Who hasn't?"

Zalinyar chuckles.

Emmajin chortles softly at some secret joke.

Akeiro grins at Emmajin.

Dantia chuckles.

Raikage says, "Yup, it tickles when the holy fire comes from the sky but in a bad way."

You say, "Not a single time can I ever, not even once, recall Raikage complaining when he died. He hopped back up, got back in the game, and got back to having fun."

Elemis grins at Raikage.

You say, "Raikage is a joy...an absolute joy...to play against."

Aetheline beams at Raikage!

Kalderen grins at you.

Kalderen nods at you, obviously agreeing with your views.

Kalderen asks, "Final question of Attitude. If victories are opportunities for humility..."What are losses?"

Siendra says, "Opportunities to learn."

Tankata exclaims, "Opportunities for humiliity!"

Melindrha says, "Chances for growth."

Kalderen nods to Siendra.

Crobin says, "Opportunities to learn."

Kalderen nods to Tankata.

Aetheline says, "Opportunties for dignity and desire to learn more."

Roletiel says, "Opportunity to learn with grace."

Kalderen nods to Melindrha.

Kalderen nods to Aetheline.

Aetheline says, "And blood."

Nawain says, "Opportunities to learn to do better."

Siendra exclaims, "Opportunities for everything!"

Kalderen gets an impish expression on his face, and lets out a hearty cheer.

Kalderen exclaims, "Now we're tracking!"

Kalderen says, "Here at the Praxium, when an Instructor asks you, "What are losses?" we answer as follows: "Losses are opportunities for excellence."

Kalderen says, "OOC: This goes hand-hand-in hand with our third question and answer. We lose with dignity and excellence. By doing so, as with wins, we encourage others to continue to engage with us. Wearing dignity and excellence in a loss engenders the respect and admiration of others. People are more likely to work with you, to engage with you more, if you are great not only when you win, but when you lose. This helps more people have more fun, which should be our goal with in-game conflict."

Kalderen says, "Let's continue that test to make sure we're all tracking and paying attention."

Kalderen asks, "Praxium, how do we lose?"

Elurora says, "With dignity, and a desire to do better."

Nawain says, "With dignity, and a desire to do better."

Elemis says, "With dignity, and a desire to do better."

Aetheline grins at Kalderen, her dimples flashing into view.

Vaddon humbly says, "With dignity, and a desire to do better."

Akeiro says, "With dignity, and a desire to do better.'."

Crobin says, "With dignity, and desire to do better."

Tichond says, "With dignity, and a desire to do better."

Kalderen exclaims, "There we go! Way to go people!"

Iryta smiles at Elurora, revealing the dimples in her cheeks.

Roletiel says, "With dignity and a desire to do better."

Elemis laughs!

Kalderen exclaims, "Excellent!"

Kalderen asks, "Praxium, what are losses?"

Elurora says, "Losses are opportunities for excellence."

Mazilyn says, "Losses are opportunities for excellence."

Sekmeht says, "Yes what they said."

Nawain says, "Losses are opportunities for excellence."

Elemis says, "Losses are opportunities for excellence."

Tankata says, "Losses are opportunities for excellence and excessive drinking."

Aetheline says, "Opportunities for excellence and more bloodshed."

Remyngton tickles Tankata, grinning mischievously.

Tichond laughs at Tankata.

Alisabeth says, "Opportunities for learning and excellence."

Warbrolus chuckles at Tankata.

Madigan grins at Tankata.

Selame grins at Tankata.

Plake says, "Oppertunities for excellence."

Kalderen says, "I'm really encouraged here, folks. You might think it silly right now, but we're laying a foundation here."

Golameth mutters something into the air about this is amazing.

Elurora and Aetheline highfive each other.

Kalderen says, "Conflict with other adventurers can either be the most fun, or most frustrating, thing you can experience."

Tankata says, "I actually think this is profoundly wonderful and not silly."

Tankata just hugged Kalderen.

Akeiro nods at Tankata, obviously agreeing with his views.

Tirost smiles at Tankata.

Kalderen says, "By starting with Attitude, every session, we're building good habits to build bridges of interaction with others."

Kalderen says, "Great job, everyone. This session's Attitude portion ran longer than most will in subsequent weeks, as this was a critical element of the foundation moving forward. If we get those four questions right, starting today and forward when you engage with other adventurers, your encounters will go well."

Aetheline beams at Kalderen!

Siendra throws her head back and howls!

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and applauds!

Kalderen exclaims, "On to Instruction!"

Almarius lets out a hearty cheer for Kalderen!

Aetheline lets out a hearty cheer for Kalderen!

Tankata lets out a loud "Huzzah!" for Kalderen!

Aetheline whistles at Kalderen.

Kalderen says, "To give you the roadmap for this section for the notetakers in the crowd, we're going to formally define combat against other adventurers (read: PvP), two lenses to view that combat through, how we indicate we are ready and receiptive for that combat, and how we guage the relative size of those we might be going up against."

Kalderen says, "Let's start with the definition of combat against other adventurers."

Kalderen says, "The Praxium defines combat against other adventurers (read: PvP) as "any solicited or unsolicited engagement or combat between yourself and others."

Kalderen says, "That can take many forms, and is generally viewed through two lenses. The first lense is "Type". Examples of different Types follow..."

Kalderen says, "Duels, where two of you challenge each other."

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Kalderen says, "Wyvern Trials...where you attend an event where combat is expected..."

Kalderen says, "And Open Field, where combat may be VERY unanticipated."

Siendra gives a slight nod.

Madigan quietly says, "You can say that again."

Kalderen says, "That's not an exhaustive list, mind you."

Kalderen chuckles at Madigan.

Kalderen asks, "The other lens to look at these encounters through is "Anticipated". Is the combat anticipated? Or is it impromptu?"

Kintryn ponders.

Kalderen says, "An Anticipated Open Field encounter looks like spars at the cemetary, or combat at the Praxium."

Kalderen says, "You have clear boundaries in rooms, and limitations in your engagement."

Kalderen says, "An Impromptu Open Field encounter can be radically different, getting jumped while hunting or while running from one place to another."

Golameth says, "Or sitting in front of the Empath guild and getting an unexpected back tickle."

Kalderen says, "And yes...getting jumped out in the open while hunting DOES still happen from time to time, though many who heavily leaned into that practice are no longer with us."

Dantia grins at Golameth.

Iryta grins, revealing her dimples.

Kalderen says, "If that's our definition of combat against adventurers and lenses through which we look at that combat, how do we indicate we are ready and receptive for those types of combat? Note, we'll be mostly OOC here."

Kalderen asks, "How do you think you indicate your willingness to participate in PvP?"

Tankata asks, "By beiing open or guarded?"

Golameth exclaims, "Hitting someone first!"

Elemis asks, "Being 'open'?"

Crobin asks, "Is waving a knife at someone the wrong answer?"

Nawain says, "Wear a red shirt."

Nawain nods.

Selame chuckles at Golameth.

Iryta says, "Pretty sure there's a buncha ways."

Kalderen lets out a hearty cheer for Tankata!

Kalderen nods to Elemis.

Siendra grins at Nawain.

Kalderen says, "One of the primary methods, maybe *the* primary method, is you Profile Status. If I use PROFILE KALDEREN, I'll see that my PvP Status is set to Closed. This setting indicates that I prefer to do everything I can to avoid PVP."

Kalderen grins.

Kalderen says, "That's clearly not the case. I'll need to adjust that in just a few."

Aetheline nods to Kalderen.

Kalderen says, "I'll need to either go Guarded or Open."

Kalderen says, "Guarded means I am open to PVP conflicts, provided I'm aware they're coming. This can be blurry, but more on the blurry part in a minute."

Kalderen says, "PvP Open indicates that I welcome any conflict with any person at any time."

Kalderen says, "To prep you now, there may be some (temporary!) PvP Open in our future."

Siendra gives a slight nod.

Kalderen casually observes the area.

Golameth holds his hand out towards Raikage for a highfive.

Kalderen nods.

Aetheline jots down some notes.

Leustyin laughs!

Iryta ponders.

Alanarue grins, revealing her dimples.

Iryta says, "'Temporary'.."

Kalderen grins at Iryta.

Kalderen winks.

Kalderen says, "The other means is by participating in a PvP-oriented event. Think Wyvern Trials. If you are there, and if you enter the Arena, you are saying to everyone "I want to fight."

Iryta winks at Kalderen.

Leustyin says to Iryta, "I went Open temporarily about three years ago."

Leustyin chortles softly at some secret joke.

Iryta grins at Leustyin, her dimples flashing into view.

Kalderen asks, "Note, of the two methods, your profile status is clear. Your participation in an event, especially a roleplay focused event, is less clear as to whether you are opting into, or out of PvP. Which events are roleplay only events? Which events are PvP only events? Which events can include both? Which events should include both?"

Kalderen shrugs.

Kalderen says, "The line blurs there. When you can be clear in your definition of "in" or "out" of PvP, by utilizing your Profile Status, that gives everyone more freedom to engage with you appropriately. The more assumptions that need to be made, the more people are likely to get it wrong."

Kalderen says, "The example I often give is a playground with a fence. No fence, or an invisible fence, and the children play just in the middle. They're unaware of the boundaries."

Kalderen says, "Put a fence up, though, and they suddenly feel the freedom to explore and play to the outer edged."

Kalderen says, "The clearer you can be about your design to PvP, or lack thereof, the better for everyone involved."

Tirost smiles.

Crobin asks, "You guys had a playground?"

Crobin says, "We had a street."

Kalderen grins at Crobin.

Crobin says, "With a rock."

Kalderen lets out a long, contemplative breath.

Melindrha says, "How should we combat the view that guarded is seen as the hypocritical tattletale stance? Personally... if you're gonna screw me, buy me dinner first."

Tirost grins at Melindrha.

Kalderen asks Melindrha, "More on that in a bit, if that's okay with you?"

Melindrha nods.

Kalderen grins at Melindrha.

Kalderen asks, "The last part of Instruction tonight revolves around gauging the relative size of others. How do we do that? What are some of the methods available to you?"

Akeiro says, "Main hunt."

Aetheline says, "Well, I am tiny, so I just look up."

Aetheline nods to Kalderen.

Iryta says, "Size em up."

Kalderen nods to Akeiro.

Illiya grins at Aetheline, her dimples flashing into view.

Elemis grins at Aetheline.

Warbrolus says, "Best way is to fight them."

Elurora grins at Aetheline.

Kalderen nods to Iryta.

Illiya nods to Warbrolus.

Tirost chuckles at Aetheline.

Kalderen beams at Warbrolus!

Kalderen nods to Warbrolus.

Madigan praises Warbrolus.

Kalderen says, "Yep, a lot of good answers there."

Kalderen says, "Warb was aluding to trial and error there."

Warbrolus smiles.

Kalderen says, "Trial and error can sometimes be a painful process, but an effective one over time. I keep a list in the back of my mind with people I've slotted in higher, lower, and even with me."

Melindrha says, "Observe them."

Anuril says, "You can test thump."

Keemar asks, "Appraise is still a method, is it not?"

Kalderen casually observes the area.

Tankata says, "Try and hit them with a sword as hard as you can."

Kalderen says, "Here I know that Leustyin and Tankata are bigger than me. Madigan and Dantia are smaller. Kerizon is about my size. I know because I've fought them, several times. As you engage in combat with other adventurers, I'd encourage you to make your own list...but be careful there! Just because a fight doesn't go your way a single time doesn't mean someone is more skilled than you are or that they're "bigger." Sometimes you lose because they managed the engagement better."

Kalderen says, "When in doubt, write those names in pencil before you write them in ink."

Iryta grins at Kalderen, her dimples flashing into view.

Kalderen says, "Someone else mentioned this, so we'll touch on it too...."

Aetheline looks at Kalderen and jots down some notes.

Kalderen says, "Another method to gauge relative sizes between adventurers is to ask. There's no harm in asking. But be okay with a "I'd rather not share," or the equivalent as an answer. When in doubt, ask in private."

Kalderen says, "I think Meli mentioned this next one..."

Kalderen says, "Finally, OOC, you can attempt THUMP <NAME> TEST on your perspective opponent. If they are within 20 circles smaller than, even with, or bigger than you, your THUMP will fail. If they are more than 20 circles smaller than you, your THUMP will succeed."

Tankata exclaims, "But it's mean to try and thump someone just to size the mup!"

Kalderen says, "Food for thought..."

Leustyin says, "Bigger does not always mean better, either. There are a lot of folks that are smaller which consistently win against bigger characters."

Kalderen says, "In light of the Attitude discussion we had at the beginning of tonight, you might choose to ignore someone that much smaller than you, and let someone their own size engage them instead. Remember, games are played for fun. fun, Fun should always be our goal with in-game conflict."

Kalderen nods at Leustyin, obviously agreeing with his views.

Madigan nods to Leustyin.

Kalderen says, "For the non-Paladins in the room, if you want to only do this temporarily (next 4 hours), feel free to STEAL KALDEREN. This will set you temporarily Open, and at the end of the 4 hours will automatically return you to your previous Profile Status."

Hit EXP, and ensure that the bottom displays you as relaxed and in a state of rest. That is not there, SLEEP (if you want to continue to drain mindstates) or SLEEP SLEEP (deep rest, pausing drain). Then, and only then, STEAL KALDEREN."

Kalderen says, "The last step was a little scary. Let's pivot to something easy. Evaluate my size, relative to yours. You can whisper and ask, or you can attempt to THUMP KALDEREN TEST."

Vaddon assesses his combat situation.

Kalderen says, "You engaged, we're actively involved now in PvP."

An imperious alfar warrior overrun with intricate tattoos reaches into a small pouch at its belt, drawing forth a small, light-drinking star of unusual design. Pirouetting balletically, it throws the star with astonishing force directly at Kalderen!

  • Tankata hurls himself in front of Kalderen, taking the brunt of the imperious alfar warrior's blow against his pavise shield!

It misses completely!

Warbrolus grins at Melindrha.

Roletiel gasps!

Kalderen laughs at Tankata.

An imperious alfar warrior overrun with intricate tattoos suddenly appears less real, like a reflection seen in an antique mirror. You close your eyes to blink away the dizzying apparition and when you open them, the creature is gone.

Dantia chuckles.

Illiya assesses her combat situation.

Kalderen says, "Okay everyone, retreat back to missile range. Way to go tonight. We're in the home stretch now."

Elemis retreats from combat.

Vaerek says, "Uh, sure."

Golameth says, "Oh absolutely."

Vaerek says, "Gonna need a raise. just pointing that out upfront."

Kalderen says, "Gola and Vaerek will duel."

Kalderen asks, "Tankata and Sekmeht, would you two be on deck, please?"

Kalderen says, "Especially during the combat between Golameth and Vaerek, let's be as quiet as possible, so they can see what's going on."

Golameth says, "I am ready when you are."

Kalderen says, "Vaerek and Golameth should be buffing now. Before combat is engaged, one of you challenge the other."

Kalderen says, "For tonight, let's keep the combat in this room only."

Kalderen says, "Future combats will encompass the entirety of the square."

Kalderen says, "While they get ready, I'd like to address your question Meli."

Kalderen says, "Meli asked, more or less, about the stigma of PvP Guarded."

Kalderen says, "Meli, there is absolutely nothing wrong with PvP Guarded. It is an absolutely valid position to take. You can run that at all times, indicating you are okay with PvP, but not in an unsolicated fashion."

Kalderen says, "My only caution there is that it blurs the lines. It is the playground without a fence."

Iryta quietly says to Elurora, "I think I couldn't care less what people thought about my PvP status. Or me in general."

Sekmeht asks, "So, is it safe to say pvp guarded is like saying, hey buy me a drink first?"

Kalderen asks, "When was the last time consent was had? Did you provoke combat? Did that? Current action? Past action?"

Vaerek says, "Ok."

Kalderen asks, "Vaerek, ready?"

Vaerek says, "Sure."

Kalderen asks, "Golameth, ready?"

Vaerek says, "Ready."

Kalderen says, "One of you initiate the challenge, please."

Vaerek accepts Golameth's challenge.

<Spar occured here, will be included in separate log. Golameth beat Vaerek...also accidentally killed him.>

Nawain winces.

Lanikarou says, "Oops."

Leustyin says, "Challenge was on, but there was an extra strike."

Leustyin exclaims, "Which brings us to highlights!"

Leustyin says, "I have the challenge stop in bright red letters. You should too."

You grin.

Kalderen says, "Okay Praxium."

Kalderen says, "Question time."

Emmajin says, "That all said, accidents do happen. This is not the first or last challenge to end in accidental death."

Vaerek exclaims to Golameth, "I almost had you!"

Golameth says, "Ya you did."

Madigan says, "Top notch match."

Golameth says, "Nerves fried."

Kalderen says, "Leustyin, Sharpen and Encourage Vaerek."

Kalderen nods at Emmajin, obviously agreeing with her views.

Vaerek pats Golameth on the back.

Aetheline exclaims to Vaerek, "You looked stunning. Blood glistening.. amazing!"

Dantia says, "I also applaud Vaerek for trying Rend, and learning it's limitations on a Barbarian. That is not sarcastic, learning by trying is a good way to remember."

Warbrolus says, "That was great. Gola was probably close to where he couldn't do anything from the nerve damage."

Leustyin says, "Mostly what Madigan said. The tactic was solid. You don't want to be in melee range with a barb. WD does a good job of keeping you away."

Warbrolus says, "Maybe replacing more would help? I dunno."

Warbrolus says, "Excuse me, replacing WD."

Kalderen says, "Vaerek, as the son of a Moon Mage...I've got a bit of experience there. The stealth combat was great. SLS was the right spell to lean on, and you kept WD up. A recommendation in the future, if you didn't already do it: stock your prediction pools and drop a CURSE on your opponent's primary weapon skill they're using."

Leustyin says, "The biggest challenge when fighting a barb as a magic user is their anti-magic wards. Swan will break any cast, during which time you have 15 seconds to get your next cast off."

Leustyin says, "So you need to hit them fast, knowing that half of your spells won't work."

Kalderen says, "Paladins and Barbarians love when you curse their weapon skills."

Dantia nods to Leustyin.

Kalderen winks at Madigan.

Aetheline giggles at Kalderen.

Iryta asks Leustyin, "All guild spells?"

Leustyin says, "All spells."

Iryta ponders.

Vaddon humbly says, "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Elemis says, "Victories are opportunities for humility."

Vaerek says, "Thank you all for the positive encouragement and suggestions."

Vrol says, "Wit grace, offerin encouragement to your opponent."

Hatham quietly says, "Opportunities for humility."

Kalderen says, "Sharpen and encourage Golameth."

Remyngton says to Golameth, "You have lovely ankles."

Nawain exclaims to Golameth, "You certainly didn't let up!"

Leustyin says to Tirost, "So as a WM you have a bit of an advantage. Target LB then 'point' right as it's fully targeted' Against barbarians I only use BG as a swan break."

Warbrolus says, "I have trouble with whole displacement when it's recast regularly. It ablates, which means you can eventually get to pole or melee if not recast often."

Nawain praises Golameth.

Kalderen coughs.

Elurora quietly says to Golameth, "I'm not how to sharpen you, you're kind of already scary pointy. But I really want to know where to get a book to kill things with, that was great."

Kalderen nods to Elurora.

Golameth beams at Remyngton!

Iryta warmly says to Kalderen, "I think this is gonna be really good. Im learning a lot in this part."

Elemis says, "The dictionary was fantastic."

Golameth says, "Thankyou all."

Iryta beams at Kalderen!

Akeiro says to Golameth, "Good work keeping up pressure. Unfortunately I'm not sure what would even make a moonie easier to hit."

Roletiel says, "I always thought words could hurt and you proved it."

Kalderen grins at Golameth.

Nawain says to Golameth, "I was impressed at just how often you dodged just about everything that went your way. Seems much harder to bring someone down when they're slippery like a unicorn."

Kalderen says, "Gola, not a lot to sharpen you on...other than watching the end of the Spar there, sir."

Kalderen winks at Golameth.

Golameth nods to Kalderen.

Kalderen nods to you.

Golameth says, "You are absolutely right."

You exclaim, "Thank you Kalderen!"

You say, "Team, thank you for attending. We covered a lot of foundation level issues, and set the stage to build on that foundation in future sessions. Your brain might hurt right now."

Akeiro exclaims, "Good job to both fighters for breaking the ice!"

You exclaim, "Tankata and Sekmeht are going to fight. Stay if you'd like to watch, sharpen, and encourage them. Otherwise, have a fantastic week!"

Ahneya sinks into a deep curtsy.

Siendra exclaims to Kalderen, "Thank you so very much for a great introduction to the course!"

Plake nods.

Zalinyar exclaims, "Thank you for putting this class together, it's been great!"

Kalderen bows to Siendra.

Sekmeht steps up to Tankata and says, "I challenge you to The Pain in a contest of skill!"

Kalderen says, "I'll hang around post fight for about 15 minutes."

Tirost bows to Kalderen.

You say, "Tankata, Sek...let's see the rumble."

Aetheline says to Elurora, "Ohh good question."

Sekmeht steps up to Tankata and says, "I challenge you to The Pain in a contest of skill!"

Kalderen says, "You can just show up for now. More to follow on that this week."

Remyngton says, "Accept tank."

Tankata accepts Sekmeht's challenge.

<Spar occured here, will be included in separate log. Sekmeht beat Tankata.>

Leustyin says, "Nice."

Madigan says, "Done. Back up Sek."

Sekmeht bows.

Roletiel says, "Wow."

Akeiro says, "Good fight."

Illiya says, "Good fight."

You just feel so pleased with yourself, you can't help letting out a hearty cheer.

Akeiro looks at Tankata and applauds!

Nawain praises Sekmeht.

Gahston says, "That was intense."

Nawain praises Tankata.

Khaelyn says, "Well done, both of you."

Nawain exclaims, "You're both so fast!"

Sekmeht says, "Thank you."

Siendra exclaims, "That was impressive to watch!"

You say, "Sharpen and encourage Tankata."

Madigan says, "I love paladin against barbarian fights."

Tankata exclaims, "I'm reveling in the humility and opportunity!"

Dantia chuckles.

Madigan grins at Tankata.

Elemis grins.

Akeiro grins at Tankata.

Alanarue grins at Tankata, her dimples flashing into view.

Plake grins at Tankata.

Lanikarou says, "Very well done, on both sides."

Nawain praises Tankata.

Roletiel says, "Tank, i always enjoy watching you fight. I wish I knew enough to do more than say its always a pleasure."

You say, "Madigan, sharpen and encourage Tank...one Paladin to another."

Tankata says, "Sek is super strong."

Tankata says, "He's terrifying."

Lanikarou says, "You love good challenges as always."

Lanikarou grins at Tankata.

Sekmeht says, "Oh psh, I'm really nice once you get to know me."

Roletiel says, "You think he's terrifying, what do you think it looks like to me."

Sekmeht laughs!

Madigan asks, "Did you have HOW up Tank?"

Warbrolus says, "You both are very nice, which makes the fight more fun to watch."

Tankata says, "I was using TR."

You shake your head at Madigan.

Madigan says, "HOW is particularly good against barbarians."

Tankata says, "And forgot AS at the start.. bad me."

You nod at Madigan, in complete agreement with his views.

Roletiel says, "Just dont sneeze in my direction, i might not survive."

You say, "Yep, that was the other part, Tank...it didn't look like you had Anti-Stun up."

Warbrolus says, "Holy warrior doesn't seem to be a magical stun. It gets through serenity and swan."

You nod at Warbrolus, in complete agreement with his views.

Madigan nods to Warbrolus.

Tankata says, "I'll trry HOW."

You say, "TR is less useful against Barbarians, as the STUN is their primary means to debilitate you, and you have Anti-Stun."

Tankata says, "I gonna try shield and parry instead of evasion."

You say, "If they fall back to the Immobilize, Courage counters that."

You say, "So TR is less useful against Barbarians than most other guilds."

Nawain asks, "Someone mentioned a bimbo earlier. What's that?"

You say, "Praxium, sharpen and encourage Sek."

Tankata says, "Also I didn't use lead and Sek said I could.. So, I will see if that helps. That'll be informative to folks."

Golameth exclaims, "Bombo!"

Lanikarou asks, "Bombo?"

Sekmeht says, "A barbarians ability to contest power vs. one's reflexes is really terrifying, with a stomp we can lock you into melee, shove you to the floor then do all kinds of mean stuff."

Tankata grins at Golameth.

Emmajin grins at Golameth.

Golameth says, "Barbarian combo."

Gahston chuckles at Golameth.

Almarius giggles.

Nawain says, "Right! Bombo."

Nawain exclaims, "Ahhh!"

You say, "Sek, BOMBO."

Nawain nods.

You grin.

Madigan says, "I LOVE powershot leading to bombo."

Remyngton says, "Sek you're really good at putting holes in my husband but yes bombo."

Golameth says, "Chaining ACMs together."

Madigan says, "Not many people use it...those were two big hits you got in with that addition."

Sekmeht bows.

You say, "But, sir, to encourage you...you absolutely had the timing down on your attacks when Tank was prone from Earthquake."

Siendra says, "There's a...a War Mage version, isn't there? Drat, Dantia told me about it..."

Nawain praises Sekmeht.

You nod at Nawain, in complete agreement with her views.

Kalderen says, "Electric Slide."

Kalderen grins at Siendra.

Gahston says, "Electric boogaloo."

Kalderen says, "I came up with that."

Siendra laughs!

Madigan nods.

Gahston says, "We need a cleric boogaloo."

Madigan nods to Siendra.
