Spell and ability difficulties fall into one of four categories: introductory, which can be used immediately with a new character; basic, which require about 20 ranks; intermediate, which require around 80 ranks; advanced which require around 250 ranks, and esoteric, which may require 400 or more ranks to use.
Introductory spells act as basic spells for out-of-guild casting.
