Devices in Magic 3 · on 07/20/2011 01:30 AM CDT 1335
Since we promised there'd be an official word on this at some point:

Existing scrolls, runestones, and devices that use the generic 'cast a spell' mechanics (rattles, wands, Shadow charms, etc.) will all be deprecated when Magic 3 goes live.

Cambrinth and cambrinth-like devices will make the conversion intact.

Magic items that use unique mechanics are not currently slated to be deprecated, but please bear in mind there may be a transition period where they are non-functional due to bugs and other bits of technicalia.

On a case by case basis (where "a case" is a kind of item from a specific source) we may provide some sort of equivalent item in the new system for deprecated devices. These cases have not been determined yet, and are slated to only include Quest and Auction quality items.

I encourage you to enjoy your expendable devices in the next few months.
