From the crafting angle I can provide some insight on a few of your thoughts...

Scholarship is going to become a more integral part of the crafting process. Studying the books to begin crafting is likely to remain for now, and will see the RT of that action increased. Scholarship will reduce that RT and be trained in the process. Harder things to craft will take more scholarship to read quickly, and train to higher ranks.

Appraisal of substance stats is currently on the easy-side. In the future to get all the information about a substance, such as its hardness, you will need more appraisal than 500 ranks.

Analyze is based on crafting skill and appraisal. I have yet to get all the bits of info there, but eventually that too will take more than 500 ranks of appraisal skill for the harder items.

I hope to get the scholarship stuff in shortly after Blacksmithing is out. The appraisal review will take place with the skill splitting. Analyze is an ongoing thing. Small stuff I know, but uses for higher scholarship and appraisal will be available for crafting.
