I do like to encourage experimentation and research, but you shouldn't have to guess what the spell is supposed to do, at least. :P

On quiet, it will:
-deter creatures from the room
-block retreats for anything it touches
-affect targets engaged to the caster

On loud, it will:
-pull creatures to the room
-block retreats for anything it touches
-affect targets not in the caster's group

No debuffs at any time, to caster or targets. Retreat blocking should function similarly on players and critters, though critters rarely have any reason to retreat any more anyway.
