Ok, last one, for now. After we spoke to Darius we headed to Shard to see if we could find Beren. Instead we spoke to on Commander Fenhault at Corik's wall. It's pretty long, but there are quite a few little tidbits throughout.

In the corner of your eye you catch a glimpse of a hound shadowing your steps. When you look that way, it is gone.

You say, "Oh, wow."

Khras says, "A hound.."

You ask, "Did you see that?"

You nod.

Penderrin nods.

Penderrin says, "Aye." l[Corik's Wall, Rear Battlements]

Viewed from the battlements' height, the landscape appears to fall away and atop the wall it seems as though you are standing amid the net of stars in the night sky. You also see Commander Fenhalut.

Also here: Philosopher Khras, Standard Bearer Iulianus, Templar Penderrin.

Obvious paths: southeast, south, west.

Khras asks, "Who is Fenhaut? Hostile?"

Commander Fenhalut and Penderrin confer quietly for a few moments.

Penderrin says, "Nope."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I should hope not."

Penderrin bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Unless you are a creature from beyond the wall, that is."

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Iulianus bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Penderrin asks, "Sir, we're on a quest of personal importance. anyway to get to the other side without enlisting in the Emerald Knights?"

Commander Fenhalut asks, "May I inquire as to what brings me the honor of this visit? More recruits, perhaps?"

You say, "We need to speak to Beren."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "The other side? I fear not."

Commander Fenhalut blinks.

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Beren?"

Commander Fenhalut frowns.

Penderrin says, "Aye."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "What do you want with Beren?"

Penderrin says, "Find out what our Council is hiding from us and bring this guild to what it should be."

You say, "Sir Darius sent us."

You say, "Suggested Beren might be here."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Did he now?"

nod fenYou nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Quite strange, that."

You ask, "Is it?"

Iulianus says, "Well, that is to say he let us leave rather than throwing us in irons."

Penderrin grins.

You grin at Iulianus.

Khras says, "As an outside party I have no bias...I can verify their truth."

Commander Fenhalut says, "That is even more of a surprise, to be honest."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Darius always was a bit too stern. He would do well as a Knight here."

You say, "There are questions to be answered, even Sir Darius can see that."

Khras says, "Perhaps suggest to the council..."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If only he could learn that sometimes compromises must be made to do what must be done."

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

You say, "He has given us the time to find those answers."

Khras says, "I agree good ser knight."

You say, "I find that to be a compromise."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I cannot, or will not, confirm nor deny that Beren can be found here. I will, however, tell you this."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I do know where he can be found."

Iulianus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

You arch your eyebrow.

Khras asks, "Will you privy us to this information?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "If you truly wish to meet with him, I can pass that message to him."

Penderrin nods.

Penderrin says, "We do."

You say, "Sir Darius said he would need to find us."

Iulianus says, "Excellent."

Khras says, "We have no hostile intent mind you."

You say, "With this, I think we can agree."

Commander Fenhalut says, "There have been others searching for him recently. Those who I am certain mean him no good will."

You say, "If you will pass the message, that will have to be enough."

Commander Fenhalut says, "So you will forgive me if I am a little reluctant to trust anyone."

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut asks, "I will pass the message. What is it you would like me to say to him?"

You say, "I don't think anyone knows who to trust anymore."

Penderrin says, "Oane sends us in the name of Syal."

You say, "Please tell him that we've been to speak to Oane...."

You nod.

You say, "And that we only seek the truth of our Guild."

Iulianus says, "Tell him we know of Kraphae and the false code."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Very well."

You say, "Which we believe he holds."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I will tell him this."

Looking you over quickly, Commander Fenhalut gives you a quick nod of approval before resuming his thoughts.

You bow to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut glances around nonchalantly.

Penderrin bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Iulianus bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "And I will add this."

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Be careful who you speak to."

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "We Knights have long known something was wrong."

Commander Fenhalut says, "That is why we chose to foresake the council and station ourselves here, facing the endless evil of the Hand."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Only here can we be sure who is the enemy, and where we stand."

Commander Fenhalut smiles.

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "You would make good Knights, I think. Consider it."

You say, "Thank you, Sir."

Iulianus nods.

You say, "For your time and cooperation."

Penderrin says, "I am in training for enlistment."

Penderrin grins.

You grin at Penderrin.

Commander Fenhalut says, "You are quite welcome. I do not pretend to know the truth, but I do know Beren is a good man."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "And that what was done to him was unjust."

You say, "As we have always believed."

You say, "Or at least wondered at."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If you can find the truth and redeem his name, you will win the support of many Knights, I assure you."

Penderrin says, "Would be an Honor."

You nod.

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Is there anything else I might assist you with?"

You say, "I don't think so."

You ponder.

Iulianus asks, "Could you tell me what is behind this really big wall?"

Khras says, "Perhaps some information on the dangers past the wall."

Commander Fenhalut says, "The Dark Hand."

You say, "Nothing I can think of. My mind is overly full of new information."

Iulianus frowns.

Penderrin asks, "Have you sighted any hounds, or heard any near the wall recently?"

Commander Fenhalut frowns.

Iulianus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

You say, "Oh, the hounds."

You nod.

Commander Fenhalut says, "...no, not sighted."

You say, "Heard."

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "But..."

Penderrin says, "Heard, aye."

Khras says, "Currently we are being tracked by a shadow hound."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes. It is disturbing."

Khras says, "Always a few steps behind us."

You say, "We were followed."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Strange things have been stirring here since the mana storm."

Penderrin ponders.

Khras says, "Nothing we can't face...the truth will prevail I'm sure."

Penderrin says, "More ties to the Hunger."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Perhaps, yes."

Iulianus asks, "What things do you mean, Sir?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "There are things that lie beyond our understanding. Beings such as the World Dragon, or Maedmaev."

Penderrin nods in agreement.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Or...whatever the Hunger represents."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I think, perhaps, things that once lay dormant stir again."

You ask, "The Bonding...?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "The Bonding."

Commander Fenhalut chuckles.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Nothing is known of the Bonding, save that it occurred."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane had fascinating theories about it, but I never believed him."

Commander Fenhalut says, "An avatar? No, I think not."

Penderrin asks, "What are your personal thoughts on it, sir?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "I think..."

Commander Fenhalut says, "...I think sometimes we overthink things."

Commander Fenhalut smiles wryly.

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Perhaps the bonding was precisely that."

Commander Fenhalut says, "The question then becomes...what, or who, was bonded."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And why."

Iulianus says, "Aye, Oane thought that the Bonding was a literal Bond."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Did he indeed? Then he has changed his ideas."

Commander Fenhalut says, "That is troubling in and of itself."

Penderrin says, "Age is wisdom."

Penderrin says, "Or senility."

Penderrin ponders.

Iulianus says, "He told us as much, through the fits of insane cackling."

Khras says, "In any case...he is quite "Wizened."

Iulianus nods to Khras.

Penderrin asks, "Pardon my bluntness.............but as commander here, have you had any visions or dreams?"

Commander Fenhalut blinks.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Dreams? I...yes."

Penderrin asks, "Might i inquire as to their nature?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Of a brilliant paladin standing amidst a sea of darkness, fighting back twisted shadow beings."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I think...no, I know..."

Khras says to Penderrin, "I'm sure they aren't of endless daisy fields..."

Commander Fenhalut shakes its head.

Penderrin grins at Khras.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He was calling for help, and none would listen."

Penderrin ponders.

You frown.

Iulianus asks, "Sylas?"

Penderrin says, "I believe it's Vorclaf."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Now that's an odd thought."

Penderrin says, "He faced Lyras alone on the field of battle, and is a paladin."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I cannot say. I just know he is desperate, and alone."

Penderrin says, "Er, was."

Penderrin nods.

Khras says, "After Lyras attempted to devour his soul...Meraud intervened."

Penderrin says, "Somethin that can even best an Immortal.............gives one pause as to just what we're dealin with."

Penderrin says, "Sir, one more question, these shadow beings..............."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Dark times we live in. Perhaps one day this wall will hold the rest of the world out from the relative safety that is the Dark Hand. Now that's a terrifying thought."

Penderrin asks, "Did they remind you of paladins?"

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Who?"

Penderrin says, "The shadow beings in your dream."

Commander Fenhalut exhales loudly.

You say, "Oane said the dark creatures were 'we'. Meaning Paladins."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I thought...yes...perhaps so. I thought I recognized some faces."

Penderrin winces.

A pained expression crosses Iulianus's face.

You say, "Ouch..."

Commander Fenhalut blinks.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Wait.."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Are you implying that Oane had similar dreams?"

Penderrin nods.

You say, "Oh yes."

Penderrin says, "He had voiced as such."

Commander Fenhalut frowns.

Commander Fenhalut says, "That is...quite disturbing."

Iulianus says, "Aye, disturbing is an understatement."

You say, "They've driven him quite mad, I'm afraid, but yet he still seems very sure."

You say, "And nothing he has said has been disproved to this point,."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Perhaps Beren knows more of this. He has implied as much."

Penderrin nods.

You say, "That is our hope."

Penderrin says, "I hope so, Sir."

Iulianus says, "As do I."

Penderrin glances at Khras.

Penderrin snickers.

You say, "Him too."

grinYou grin.

Penderrin grins.

Khras says, "We have little time to waste."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I will see to it that he is informed that you seek him."

Khras says, "The fact that Darius didn't clasp us in irons immediately signals him as an ally...we have to get to the bottom of this."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I fear it may take time. Once beyond the Wall, men can disappear for weeks, even months."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Beware of Darius."

You glance at Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He is a good man. Too good."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He will follow orders, always."

Khras whispers, "tell him to go to the moonmage guild"

Commander Fenhalut says, "If he is ordered to arrest you, he will."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He may try to prove your innocence, but he will still arrest you."

Khras says, "Then I must make us as slippery to catch as possible."

You nod to Khras.

Khras says, "Atleast untill we sort this out."

Penderrin says, "If the Immortals order me to shake this guild to its roots, then that is what I must do."

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Penderrin nods at Khras, obviously agreeing with his views.

Iulianus says, "We'll have to uncover the truth before then."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Our first and foremost duty is to the Immortals."

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I think sometimes we forget that."

You nod.

Khras gestures.

Khras turns his gaze to the sky for a few moments.

Khras gestures.

Penderrin says, "More often than not, i feel."

Khras gestures.

Commander Fenhalut says, "That is why we choose to remain here. The creatures beyond this wall are the creations of the Dragon Priests, monstrousties that exist to serve the World Dragon."

You ask, "Lesser evil?"

You glance at Commander Fenhalut.

Khras says, "My blade isn't picky."

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut chuckles.

You grin at Khras.

Khras says, "It will cleave dragon priest flesh like the rest."

Penderrin says, "There's fanatics right up the road."

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Say rather that these creatures are blasphemies, and exist to destroy that which the Immortals have created."

Khras says, "I will slay them all the same."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Our duty here is clear and unconfused by politics."

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Khras says, "Of course."

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Penderrin asks, "Has the Council tried to intercede downhere?"

Khras says, "You are good and noble ser Fenhalut."

Commander Fenhalut says, "They try often enough."

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "But we are not part of their Council."

Penderrin says, "And it shows, they think ill of the Emerald Knights."

Commander Fenhalut says, "The Baron's arm is long, but the Ferdhal rules Ilithi."

Khras says, "If you must...erradicate them for it."

Khras says, "I have no ties to this council, and if they impede our progress, many will die by my hand."

Commander Fenhalut says, "They think ill of us because we do not trouble ourselves with politics or noble morality. There is a job to be done, and we do it."

Penderrin praises Commander Fenhalut.

Khras says, "You do well good ser."

Commander Fenhalut says, "The Council may not approve, but we do not serve them. We serve the Immortals, and our own honor."

Penderrin says, "My thoughts exactly."

Penderrin nods.

Iulianus frowns.

Penderrin ponders.

Iulianus asks, "Did anyone else feel like they were being watched?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "I have felt that way a lot recently."

Penderrin says, "We have also sir."

Iulianus nods to Khras.

Penderrin says, "Senses of unease or with feelings of maqlice."

Penderrin says, "Er, malice."

Khras gestures.

Iulianus says, "OK, thank you for the clarification."

Khras gestures.

Khras gestures.

Iulianus appears to be concentrating intently on something.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Many of the Knights report similar feelings. Often apparently simultaneously."

Commander Fenhalut says, "That also...does not bode well."

Penderrin asks, "What could be triggerin our sixth sense?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "A threat."

Commander Fenhalut says, "One that apparently looms over us all."

You say, "I still wonder. The last one today was immediately followed by the council messenger."

Penderrin says, "Must be a paladin-affair, cleric kin of mine have felt nothing."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Hrm..."

Khras says, "Nor have i."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Now that's interesting."

Khras says, "One moment."

Khras scans the sky, looking for portents and insight.

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "And extremely disturbing if the implications are followed."

You nod.

You say, "Actually, I'm not sure we started at the beginning with you, Sir."

Khras seems to be concentrating intently on something.

Khras gazes heavenwards expectantly, but lowers his eyes unfulfilled.

Khras gazes heavenwards expectantly, but lowers his eyes unfulfilled.

Khras scans the sky, looking for portents and insight.

You say, "We were originally approached by the Council messenger...."

Penderrin peers quizzically at you.

Penderrin nods.

You say, "And told to find Oane, as he was wanted for treason."

You say, "That is how we ended up speaking to him in the first place."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane would never commit treason."

Iulianus says, "We were told Oane might be dangerous, and that he had to be brought to Darius above all other guild leaders."

Penderrin nods.

Penderrin says, "Which we did not."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes, that follows."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I can see why they would want him taken to Darius."

Khras gestures.

You say, "We refused."

Penderrin says, "Right, toy soldier."

You say, "Which is why we say Darius 'allowed' us to leave."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Good. I cannot believe Oane would betray the guild. He was always scatterbrained, but a true scholar."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And a true paladin."

Penderrin nods agreeably at Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "If he has done something, he has done it for a reason."

You say, "Which is what led us here, to try to confirm with Beren what we've already heard, and try to find out more."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I hope Beren can help shed light on this."

Khras gestures.

You nod.

Khras gestures.

Iulianus nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He will be informed as soon as possible."

You say, "Many thanks, Sir."

Khras gestures.

Penderrin nods.

Looking you over quickly, Commander Fenhalut gives you a quick nod of approval before resuming his thoughts.

You bow to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Who should I send a response to?"

Commander Fenhalut raises an eyebrow.

Penderrin says, "If possible, those present."

You say, "One of us or all of us."

Khras says, "I am in the best position to contact everyone if needs be."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I will make it so."

You nod.

Khras says, "I can gather everyone from all corners."

Iulianus nods.

Penderrin nods at Khras, obviously agreeing with his views.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I pray things do not deteriorate further."

Commander Fenhalut sighs.

You say, "Again, thank you for your time and attention. We will await contact."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I wish you well on your quest, but at the same time..."

Iulianus says, "Thank you, Commander."

Commander Fenhalut says, "You realize what will happen if you DO find out the Council is hiding something."

Penderrin gazes at Commander Fenhalut.

Khras asks, "For now, shall we combat what lies beyond the wall?"

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

You say, "I'm afraid I have some idea...."

Commander Fenhalut says, "You may very well destroy the guild."

Iulianus says, "Aye, the guild as we know it will be no more."

You say, "Or make it what is should already be."

Khras says, "It will be an "Off with yer head" type of thing, I'm sure."

Iulianus nods to you.

Commander Fenhalut says, "May the Gods watch over you."

Penderrin says, "If that's the will of Rutilor, so mote it be."

Iulianus bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Khras hisses, "You the sssame good Ssser."

Penderrin bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Khras bows to Commander Fenhalut.

Penderrin stops you from following him.

You peer quizzically at Penderrin.

Khras says, "Silus will be with us shortly."

Khras gestures.

Penderrin says, "Okie dokie."

You nod.

You say, "Thank you."

Khras gestures.

Khras seems to be concentrating intently on something.

Khras gestures.

Khras seems to be concentrating intently on something.

Khras gestures.

A fierce blue-white glare forces you to avert your eyes for a moment. When it subsides, a blue Moongate stands before you, rippling slightly.

You notice Silus peering through the other side of the Moongate.

You notice Pothon peering through the other side of the Moongate.

Sir Silus's group came through a blue Moongate.

l[Corik's Wall, Rear Battlements]

Viewed from the battlements' height, the landscape appears to fall away and atop the wall it seems as though you are standing amid the net of stars in the night sky. You also see a blue Moongate and Commander Fenhalut.

Also here: Sir Aaiyaah, Psionic Aysta, Sir Silus, Philosopher Khras, Standard Bearer Iulianus, Templar Penderrin.

Obvious paths: southeast, south, west.

Penderrin bows to Silus.

Silus says, "So."

A blue Moongate collapses in on itself.

Khras grins at Aysta.

You bow to Silus.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Greetings, and well met."

Aysta grins at Khras.

Iulianus bows to Silus.

You say, "Sir..."

Silus says, "Greetings."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Welcome to the battlefront."

Commander Fenhalut chuckles.

Khras nods to Silus.

Penderrin grins.

You say to Silus, "The good Commander has agree to pass word to Sir Beren that we wish to speak with him."

Aysta gestures.

Commander Fenhalut says, "That, at least, I can do."

Silus asks, "Would you be able to escort a Emerald Knight to Beren Commander?"

Silus points at himself.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I cannot. For one thing, I do not know where he is, precisely."

Commander Fenhalut says, "It will take our rangers days if not weeks to find him."

Silus says, "I see."

Commander Fenhalut gestures vaguely to the twisted landscapes beyond the wall.

Commander Fenhalut says, "For another, there are those hunting him that wish him ill."

Silus asks, "So I assume they are actively searching at the moment?"

Aaiyaah asks, "Who hunts him, Commander?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "While I trust you are not among them, your friends have already hinted at a follower."

Commander Fenhalut says, "once I have a moment to issue the commands, yes."

Silus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

You say, "We should let him do that."

You grin.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I do not know. A representative of the Council was here about three days ago. Oane was looking for him roughly a month or so ago."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And there have been...strange things...seen in these parts lately."

You say, "The hounds."

You nod to Silus.

Silus asks, "Such as?"

Silus nods to you.

You say, "They've been following us as well."

Commander Fenhalut says, "The hound your friend described."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And shadowy figures just out of the corner of the eye."

Commander Fenhalut says, "At first we thought it was just battle fatigue."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Such things happen here."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "But it has become too common among soldiers too seasoned."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I think something has fixed its attention on this Wall."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And I am not sure it is a coincidence that this happens when so many come looking for Beren."

Aaiyaah says, "Makes sense."

Silus says, "I'm shocked he is still around."

Aaiyaah asks, "Did Oane say anything at all when he was here?"

Aysta gestures.

Khras says, "A month or so ago..."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He was looking for Beren, to ask him about Dreldan, I believe."

Khras says, "He's quite mad."

Silus ponders.

Penderrin says, "Dreldan? One of the Six........................"

Khras says, "I'm sure it's just a confusion about the state of reality."

Penderrin ponders.

Commander Fenhalut says, "The very one."

Silus asks, "Is that one of the founding council members?"

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "One of Syal's six companions, yes."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And the founder of the Crossing guild."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Also, apparently, Beren's ancestor."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Something I did not know until Oane mentioned it."

Penderrin says, "Makes ya wonder.............a mercenary gettin the calling..............."

Silus says, "Makes sense."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes, he was that. And a thoroughly unpleasant man by all accounts. At least prior to joining Syal."

Penderrin nods in agreement.

Khras says, "A change of heart, perhaps/."

Iulianus shrugs.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Perhaps. Syal was the greatest paladin to ever live. If he approved of Dreldan, he must have seen something worthwhile in him."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane said something else strange as well, now that I think about it."

Aaiyaah asks, "Oh?"

Silus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Khras says, "Sometimes beneath the myre a bit of gold will shine through."

Iulianus peers quizzically at Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He said that he believed Dreldan was a disciple of Trothfang."

Penderrin says, "Aye, we received the Rally through his inspiration."

You say, "Oane said that, as well, I believe. And an ancestor of Beren, at that."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Truly? That is interesting."

Penderrin nods.

Iulianus nods.

Commander Fenhalut asks, "I wonder, then. Did he renounce Trothfang, or did Syal simply not care?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Now that is an interesting question." Penderrin says, "Reminds me of somethin me sire told me when i was of squiring age."

Penderrin says, "We are the sword-arm of the gods, not the people. We protect them, but are not governed by them. Such is our path as Paladins."

Penderrin says, "Mebbe he was right."

Commander Fenhalut says, "That is what we have always believed here on the Wall."

Commander Fenhalut says, "What lies beyond are mockeries of the gods. Creatures created not by them, but in opposition to them."

Aaiyaah asks, "Commander, did Oane seem mad or crazed as some reports have led us to believe, when he spoke with you?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Threats not only to the good people of Elanthia, but to the will of the Immortals."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Mad? No. No more than usual."

Penderrin nods agreeably at Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He was always a little...odd."

Aaiyaah grins.

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Most scholars are."

Aaiyaah says, "So he was himself."

Aaiyaah says, "Interesting."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes. Worried. Very worried."

Iulianus says, "So his madness is a recent development."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I would think so, yes."

You say, "He...drooled a little. Sounded a little off, but still made sense, even if that sense was frightening."

Khras says, "He fears for his life obviously."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "As he should, if what you say is true."

Penderrin says, "I'd like another look at that body. Specifically the armor."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane isn't like Beren. He won't stay silent. He is, after all, a scholar."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If they want to keep him from saying too much, they will have to lock him away forever, or see him dead."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Neither a particularly pleasant fate."

Penderrin ponders.

Aaiyaah says, "Commander, did Oane leave any word as to where he may be heading? It is imparative we speak with him and find out the truth to what is really happening here."

Aaiyaah asks, "Just to see Beren, that is all?"

Commander Fenhalut frowns slightly as he thinks back.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He wanted to speak with Beren about Dreldan, so I arranged for Beren to be found. I do not know what they discussed."

Khras says to Penderrin, "The armor was obscurred through the coffin."

The shadows of a circle of obsidian ebb slowly like the black night sea, darkening Aysta's face and obscuring her expression.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I do know that when Oane left, he was even more worried than before, if that was possible."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He did..."

Commander Fenhalut frowns deeply.

Penderrin draws forth a ceremonial battle hammer wrapped in silver chain.

Aaiyaah takes a great helm off his head.

Aaiyaah moves a great helm to his left hand.

Penderrin taps a ceremonial battle hammer wrapped in silver chain that he is holding.

Silus asks, "How long have you know of Beren being behind the walls?"

Penderrin winks at Khras.

Penderrin puts his hammer in his claymore sheath.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He's been here a very long time."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He came here not long after being discharged."

Aaiyaah asks, "Oane, did what, Commander? Why the frown if I may inquire?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Honestly, I think he intended to commit suicide of sorts."

Commander Fenhalut sighs.

Silus nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "He was muttering something when he left. I remember that much."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Something about light to counter the darkness, and what would happen if the light grew too dim."

Silus shakes his head.

Commander Fenhalut says, "It reminded me very much of what the Guild Leaders teach prospective Squires and recruits."

Penderrin says, "Emille."

Khras asks, "The temple beacon perhaps?"

Penderrin nods to you.

You nod.

Iulianus ponders.

Aaiyaah says, "Aye, if the last bit of light to be seen if darkness to prevail was to see the blade of a paladin raised against it."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes, precisely."

Penderrin says, "If the darkness should overtake the light, the last gleam of hope will come from the upifted blade of the righteous paladin."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He seemed quite obsessed with it."

Aaiyaah says, "Well, these days with Lyras and her minions about, the light must remain."

You ask, "Her, thats where Oane was, in her burial chamber. Emille's. But he seemed to think that it wasn't really her?"

Penderrin nods at Aaiyaah, obviously agreeing with his views.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Indeed it must."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Not really her?"

nod fenYou nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Now that's a disturbing thought."

Penderrin says, "He suspected as much."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "I believe there was a false tomb already devoted to her?"

Commander Fenhalut asks, "And some manner of wards and traps around the real?"

Silus nods.

Silus says, "Correct."

Penderrin nods.

Penderrin says, "We were in the real one, Oane came to guide us in."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I suppose..."

Aaiyaah asks, "Why would Oane go there?"

Commander Fenhalut asks, "...if they hid her once, whose to say they couldn't do it twice?"

Silus asks, "Oane, guided you guys in?"

Penderrin nods.

You nod to Silus.

Commander Fenhalut says, "There? Another of his obsessions. Emmile always facinated him."

Iulianus nods to Silus.

We were with him there. You say, "We were with him there."

Commander Fenhalut says, "er...Emille. I cannot pronounce Dwarven names correctly for the life of me."

Silus asks, "Why didn't you guys turn him over to Darius?"

Aaiyaah says, "I just cannot accept the fact a man such as Oane, who dedicated his life to this Guild, would turn his back upon it."

Iulianus asks, "Commander, do you know more about why Oane would be so interested in Emille?"

You say, "Because we fear that would only further hinder the truth coming out."

Aaiyaah says, "We must find out what is going on here."

Penderrin says, "It didn;t feel right. To me, personally."

Khras says, "I linked myself to him, to summon him at will...bue he knows something of my magic, and fled when my spell waned."

Silus ponders.

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Because he is a scholar and historian, and so little is known about her, Syal, and the Six?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Emille is perhaps the best link to them all."

Iulianus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

You say to Silus, "We went back to Darius after speaking to Oane and told him we would not turn him in."

Commander Fenhalut says, "She was the last living person to have known Syal at the end of his days."

Aaiyaah asks, "It seems our researcher has found out something the Council wants kept under wraps. What do you all think?"

You nod.

Penderrin says, "I agree."

You say, "That is why we wouldn't turn him in."

Silus says, "Perhaps."

Khras says, "Agreed...this runs deeper than we know."

Iulianus ponders.

You say, "Honestly, if Darius didn't see some truth to this, he wouldn't have allowed us to walk back out."

Silus asks, "What was Darius' position on this?"

You say, "We're still standing."

You grin at Silus.

Khras says, "He's allowing us time to sort it out."

You say, "He suggested that we might find Beren here."

Silus says, "Knowing his background, I'm suprised."

Iulianus says, "And we're not in a dungeon somewhere."

Penderrin says, "He thinks we're walking a fine line to treason."

Khras says, "But, he said if ordered he would take us in."

Penderrin nods.

Silus says, "Very stern fellow."

You nod.

Aaiyaah asks, "So it seems we know what we must do. Commander, what can we do to help aide you in finding Beren?"

You say, "He was clear that we were crossing a line."

You say, "But allowed us to do so."

Penderrin grins at you.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Nothing, I fear. He will be found, and will be informed you seek him. The rest is up to him."

Aaiyaah nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "If he wishes to be found, he will find you."

You nod.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Of that you can be sure."

You say, "We are to wait for word from him."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Please."

You nod.

Commander Fenhalut says, "And be alert."

You say, "And that is what Darius said as well."

You nod to Silus.

Commander Fenhalut says, "If Darius knows you are asking questions, the Council will too."

You say, "That we would not find Beren, but he would find us."

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

You say, "This is true."

Penderrin says, "I was about to ask if we should start watching over our shoulders."

Khras says to Penderrin, "That is a good idea for anyone."

Khras grins at Penderrin.

Commander Fenhalut says, "It would be wise."

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Darius is truly a good man, and honorable. But he will do his duty."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If what you suspect is true, he will be dangerous to you."

Penderrin says, "Avoid the hib guildhall."

Penderrin nods.

Silus says, "Good idea for you guys."

Silus grins.

Penderrin grins.

You say, "And you too, now."

You nod to Silus.

You give Silus a playful poke in the ribs.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Only if they know."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Be careful what you say, and to whom."

You nod.

Penderrin says, "There's bound to be people blindly following the Council."

Commander Fenhalut says, "The truly important thing to remember is that this isn't the first time there's been a problem like this."

Aaiyaah says, "Rest assured, we Will get to the bottom of this."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If there can be corruption in the Council once, it can happen again."

Aaiyaah says, "We owe Oane that much at least."

Penderrin nods at Aaiyaah, obviously agreeing with his views.

You nod to Commander Fenhalut.

Commander Fenhalut says, "We can't even be sure it is the entire Council, or just a few key members."

Commander Fenhalut says, "or even one, if the right one."

Penderrin says, "I hadn;t thought of that."

Silus says, "Very tricky situation."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Kraphae did a great deal of damage on his own."

You sigh.

You say, "A mess..."

Aaiyaah says, "Commander, one more question for you."

Iulianus frowns.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Although if he did not murder Merden or commit the arson, it implies he had conspirators."

Khras says, "One bad apple can spoil the bunch as they say."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Yes?"

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

You say, "And honestly, one reason we didn't bring Oane to Darius was not knowing who to trust."

Aaiyaah asks, "After Oane spoke with Beren, what was Beren's behavior?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Withdrawn. But oddly at peace."

You say, "...because someone else knows what he already did..."

Penderrin nods at you, obviously agreeing with your views.

Commander Fenhalut says, "After hearing your story, I think perhaps that is it."

Penderrin says, "One thing bothers me.............."

Khras says, "I believe Darius is trustworthy, but his superiors may not be."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Precisely."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And Darius will follow orders."

Aaiyaah asks, "What of Cleworth?"

You say, "He may be too trusting, though."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Cleworth."

Aaiyaah says, "I should report this to my Baron but..."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He is a noble soul if ever there was one."

You say, "The messenger suggested that we could bring Oane to Cleworth,I wouldn't trust him right now."

Silus shakes his head.

Commander Fenhalut says, "I think he could be trusted, maybe. But remember that the Council exists by the will of the Baron, and Cleworth serves the Baron."

You nod.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Cleworth may not betray you to the Council if he believes you, but..."

Commander Fenhalut says, "...I cannot say he would not inform the Baron."

You say, "The messenger was clear that we should only go to Darius or Cleworth."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And that could have disasterous results as well."

Khras says to Aaiyaah, "I believe it unwise to further involve politics."

Penderrin asks, "So, why only those 2? those the least likely to question the council?"

Aaiyaah asks, "Are you saying that the Baron should not know?"

You nod.

Aaiyaah says, "He Is a paladin."

Khras says, "Yes."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Those two are the most likely to betray your intentions to the Council, certainly."

Khras says, "But he has certain obligations, that will only muddy our waters."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Directly or indirectly."

Penderrin nods.

You say, "I agree, we don't know who to trust. We should not go further without speaking to Beren first."

Aaiyaah nods.

You say, "We may not get that chance otherwise."

Khras says, "Too many feet in the puddle so to speak."

Commander Fenhalut says, "You could probably trust Snow. She has always been one to think for herslef."

You nod.

Aaiyaah says, "I would not normally not report something such as this to my Baron, but you all do have sound points."

Aaiyaah says, "I can only hope he understands later."

You say, "We may all have a very new understanding later."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If you must, you must. But I would advise against it."

Penderrin asks, "Syal would have most likely left the original Code, to make sure his progeny followed the right path. Emille was with him to the last, and most likely wrote his wishes down. So.....................where is it?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "A good point."

You say, "That is the question, isn't it."

Aaiyaah says, "He would wish for me to uncover the truth."

Iulianus says, "That explains more about Oane's fasciation with her."

Penderrin nods.

You shake your head at Aaiyaah.

You say, "The truth is being meticulously hidden."

Khras says, "I find it unwise to report anything that we don't have sound information on."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Emille also resigned the Council very early. It was quite the surprise, and quite the scandal."

Khras says, "When we find the truth, then we can make decisions."

Penderrin says, "If her journal was on her person before she was laid to rest, or it was discovered................would explain why the council sent darius there poste haste."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane was always drawn to scandals."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If I wanted orders followed to the letter, no questions asked..."

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "... I'd send Darius, yes."

You nod.

Iulianus says, "And barring Darius, Cleworth."

Iulianus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Aaiyaah asks, "As eage to prove himself during those times?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Goodness, you are truly making me paranoid."

Aaiyaah says, "Eager even."

Commander Fenhalut smiles wryly.

Penderrin grins.

You grin.

Penderrin says, "Cautious."

Penderrin grins.

You say, "But Oane did say he had wanted to examine her and was not allowed to do so."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes, he complained about that at great length, I understand."

Iulianus says, "He said he was expressly forbidden to do so, by order of the Council."

Penderrin says, "Why, is the question."

Penderrin says, "Was it soemthing she had on her? or..................how she died."

You say, "Or that it isn't her at all."

Commander Fenhalut says, "My understanding was that a Council representative was present when he found her, and forbade him on the spot, then ordered it sealed."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And yes, it is quite suspicious."

Penderrin nods.

Penderrin ponders.

Commander Fenhalut says, "If they just wanted to allow her to rest in peace, they could have just said so."

Khras asks, "An assassination perhaps?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane might have balked, but he would have respected it."

Commander Fenhalut blinks.

Penderrin says, "By the Betrayer mayhaps."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I hadn't considered that."

Commander Fenhalut frowns.

Commander Fenhalut says, "That would explain a lot, yes."

Iulianus frowns.

Penderrin says, "Bury the original code, pass down yer own version of it."

Khras says, "The council is covering it up to make everything seem at ease."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Other than why the dwarves went through so much trouble to hide her."

Penderrin says, "Well, she WAS one of their own."

Commander Fenhalut says, "That's true."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Dwarves are a strange lot."

Penderrin grins.

Aaiyaah asks, "Wait. Are you thinking that perhaps we have not had the original code all along Penderrin?"

Aysta nods in agreement.

You say, "Oh, we are all considering that."

Penderrin says, "Aye."

Iulianus nods to Aaiyaah.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Of that, you can be certain."

Penderrin says, "A rescinded version."

Commander Fenhalut says, "What we have is what Kraphae passed down."

Commander Fenhalut says, "He claims it was Syal's..."

Commander Fenhalut says, "But we may never know."

Khras says, "Perhaps we will after all..."

You say, "But it was rewritten. Partially to appease the Baron, as Oane explained it."

Commander Fenhalut says, "We do know that Kraphae stole artifacts from the guild, and very likely murdered one of the six and burned the guildhall to cover his tracks."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Which makes anything he passed down suspect, I suppose."

Penderrin asks, "Who wants a bunch of holy zealots runnign around with no one but the immortals to answer to?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "Oane had once suggested that he believed Kraphae worked for another organization."

Penderrin glances at Commander Fenhalut.

Aaiyaah asks, "Another organization? Organization of what?"

Commander Fenhalut says, "In one of his lectures I attended, he had implied that Kraphae was part of a conspiracy involving...other thieves."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I hope you take my meaning."

Aaiyaah says, "This just gets better and better."

Penderrin says, "Oh bloody hell."

Iulianus asks, "The Thieves Guild?"

Iulianus's jaw drops.

Penderrin says, "Necros."

Iulianus frowns.

Commander Fenhalut says, "It could be that he acted alone. He could have done it all alone."

Commander Fenhalut says, "But could have and did are never the same."

Penderrin ponders.

Commander Fenhalut says, "But it is worth considering that he didn't act alone."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And if that's the case, whoever worked with him..."

Aaiyaah says, "Hence, organization."

Commander Fenhalut says, "...was never caught."

You say, "Whoa."

Khras sighs.

Khras says, "This keeps going deeper and deeper."

You nod to Khras.

Aaiyaah asks, "And had passed on such teaching?"

Iulianus says, "Yikes."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yes."

Penderrin says, "Could be any number of groups who wanted to limit Paladin influence."

Commander Fenhalut says, "This is also not true. The histories clearly show that most early attempts to unite paladins failed."

Aaiyaah says, "Then perhaps it is time it happens."

Penderrin says, "Unite under the Baron..................or under the Immortals."

You say, "Under the Immortals, as it should be."

Aaiyaah says, "Well nothing like the present. Especially with Lyras about."

Penderrin nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Agreed. Therein lies the real danger."

Commander Fenhalut says, "At times like this we need to be most united."

Aaiyaah says, "Agreed."

You nod.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Yet politics always divide."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And unfortunately, it is at times like this that those who seek power make their move."

Penderrin says, "Not just treason would follow. The council doesn;t see it our way.........................we'll prolly be branded Heretics."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Most likely, yes."

Penderrin sighs.

Iulianus says, "Or rebels. A group of zealots rebelling against the council."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And you will be portrayed as such publically."

Khras says, "As long as we're on the right side, you should feel no unrest."

Commander Fenhalut says, "And probably made outlaws by the Baron, at least."

Commander Fenhalut asks, "Not pleasant, is it?"

Penderrin says, "No, but nothign worth fightin for ever is easy."

Khras says, "The truth sometimes is not pleasant."

Commander Fenhalut says, "Well said. I still think you would do well serving the Knights."

Commander Fenhalut chuckles.

Penderrin grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "Life is much simpler here. We have a job, we do it."

Khras says, "I'd take this post any day."

Silus nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Khras says, "Damn Kssarh and what he wants."

Silus says, "I've done my rounds from time to time."

Commander Fenhalut says, "If they tell us not to, we do it anyway. Because it needs doing."

Commander Fenhalut chuckles.

Aysta nods to Khras.

Penderrin grins.

Iulianus exclaims, "I'll gladly scrub the battlements!"

Penderrin snickers.

Commander Fenhalut says, "We do have some onagers in need of mending..."

Khras says to Iulianus, "I'll stick to killing Dragon Priests."

You grin.

Penderrin says, "Sounds like a job."

Commander Fenhalut says, "A just and noble cause, assuming they truly are."

Aaiyaah says, "Spent a lifetime serving the Baron. It pains me to do this but what right is right. Finding the truth trumps everything here. It may very well lead to the key in unification and defeating Lyras' armies."

Iulianus grins.

Commander Fenhalut says, "We can only hope."

Khras says, "Possibly."

Commander Fenhalut says, "But if I am to find Beren, I should make arrangements now."

Khras nods to Commander Fenhalut.

Aaiyaah says, "Yes, please do Commander."

You nod.

Khras says, "The sooner the better."

Penderrin says, "Aye aye."

Silus nods.

Commander Fenhalut says, "If I learn anything more, I will pass it along somehow."

You say, "Thank you."

Silus says, "Thanks."

Commander Fenhalut says, "I wish you the best of luck, and the protection of the Immortals. I fear very much you will need both."

And if that wasn't enough fun for one day.....

A large flock of people rushes into the area! Though some are plainly robed, others are wearing thick armor. As their collective chants of rage fill the air, someone screeches, "There he is! Don't let him get away!"

The crowd quickly converges on Khras, overpowers him and throws him to the ground as dozens of iron-gripped hands pin down his arms and legs.

From the midst of the grumbling crowd, a Paladin in white and gold plate armor steps forward. He proclaims, "By the grace of Light, Khras, you have been condemned to die by the sword. May this Holy Weapon cleanse at least part of your sin." With that, the man unsheathes a well-polished sword and walks up to Khras's prone body. Gazing solemnly at him, he forcefully thrusts the weapon downward to his chest with the strength of both arms. The blade smoothly slides into the ribcage and kills him instantly.

* Khras was just struck down!
* Khras is slain before your eyes!

Khras's bastard sword falls to the ground.

* Khras was purged by the Hounds of Rutilor!

The clerics in the group wave their censers superstitiously over Khras's body. As the cloying incense smoke mingles with the scent of death, the crowd leaves, all the while mumbling prayers against evil.

And to cap it off for Khras.....

Templar Penderrin's group came through the North city gates.

[Shard, North City Gates]

The massive gates of the city of Shard rise up to the north. The twin doors of steel-braced ironwood give access to the North Bridge across the Lake of Tears. Somber guards watch on the battlements above. You also see a scruffy leopard that is sitting, a Zeharca horse, a ladder to the top of the wall and a prominent warning sign.

Also here: Philosopher Khras, Templar Penderrin, Lord General Leucius, Storm Weaver Meanne who is enveloped in a hellish inferno, Standard Bearer Iulianus.

Obvious paths: east, south, west.

Leucius says, "Or."

You say, "Or here."

Leucius says, "He's right here."

The Shard sentinel strides in, looking around carefully for signs of trouble.

You grin.

You let out a hearty cheer for Khras!

Leucius asks, "Did you get your ward?"

The Shard sentinel scans the area with a watchful eye.

The sentinel stares in Khras's direction for a long moment, then charges straight towards him! Khras gracelessly stumbles into the sentinel's grasp and is quickly trapped.

With deft actions, the sentinel binds Khras's hands behind his back, and marches him off.

The Shard sentinel returns afterwards, looking around sternly as if to showcase the fate of all lawbreakers.

My understanding is that Khras was warned to stay out of affairs that don't concern him.
