| The undead that passed the barrier were generally in Lyras's direct control and she managed their ebb and flow to some degree. Without her, they stopped coming out, but they didn't just crumble to dust (unless they were quickies and their animation force ran out of juice via time). There's huge pockets of undead still 'out there' that are just kind of sitting there doing absolutely nothing (like the soldiers from the FEAR game after you kill Paxton Fettel).
The undead powering the barrier are self-sustaining and have been given a permanent command that is only alterable by a person who no longer exists. | |
