Look: The tapani is a double-sided drum formed of a circle of laminated golden oak that has been rubbed with reddish oils and covered at each end with a piece of circular hide. The hide is laced in place with lengths of stiffly braided crimson and white cord, their ends carefully tucked away so as not to obscure the brass wire knotwork that has been riveted to several places along the tapani's side.
