Dressed in a ragged blue tunic and a pair of brown breeches sashed at the waist with a bit of twine, one would think Barley a pauper were it not for the impeccable grooming of his hair and nails. A wedding ring of hammered gold wraps one of his fingers, glinting through the mess of mottled ink that years of scribing songs has left etched on his fingers.
