Yiara grew up in the court of King Benpar IV of the Cip'uja clan of Gnomes in Albaria. Her father, Yediel is the king's Court Jester. Yiara was next in line for the jester job, but has since become part of Zoluren's court as the Court Bard.

Yiara has 8 other brothers and sisters (3 sisters, 5 brothers) who are all currently residing in Albaria with the rest of her family. When Yiara came of age, she moved to Zoluren to study bardliness from Silvyrfrost.

In Zoluren, Yiara met many talented bards who took her in and became a second family to her. She befriended the Merlew (now Elf) Arilana before she became the Princess and that friendship along with her singing talents helped her to become part of Prince Vorclaf's court. She has also done work with Theren's Theater, acting in several plays and writing a few of her own.

Not long after being named Court Bard, Yiara disappeared for 5 years. (From 386 until 391 A.L.) She would only say that she had been kidnapped by a cousin who worked for a rival family of Gnomes and eventually escaped with the help of her twin brothers. She doesn't recall much of what happened while she was being held.
