Named in honor of Sharlir, wife of Methesdred, one of those who contributed to the raising of the Barrier. Sharlir was dragged off just as the Barrier went up, and Methesdred never saw her again.

Sharilir's last name is derived from the 'constellation' of the Giant. Her mother took it for herself when, during the flight of the Rakash people from their homeland, she became lost and was separated from the rest of her pack. It quickly became dark, and she spent an entire night attempting to outrun undead until she remembered the principles of navigation she had been taught as a child - the Giant will point you north, and she used these stars to navigate her way back to safety.
