A hard, spherical, crystalline structure sometimes found in the remains of slain plant-like monstrosities in and around Su Helmas. Though looking gem-like, research done on samples indicates that they are most closely akin to some sort of seed, albeit one that appears to have been greatly changed by magical influences.

Verdant hearts have been found in a variety of greens. More rarely, they may possess a deep red tinge atop the normal green, leading them to be called ‘sanguine-stained’. The rarest of the verdant heart colorations is an inky black, and such examples are referred to as being a ‘blackened verdant heart’.

Verdant hearts sometimes appear to possess some lingering magical properties, but this is not always the case, and of the ones found so far, most that do contain perceptible magic seem to have only a finite supply of it.

Whether actively magical or not, verdant hearts are very interesting in appearance, and seem to be gaining popularity as decorations in jewelry and upon other items amongst those fortunate enough to come into their possession. Verdant hearts are not usually cut, polished, or otherwise altered, because it ruins the natural shape and surface texture which is part of their allure. Typical description: Tiny ridges cover the spherical, crystalline surface, giving it a rough texture, but also capturing light to brilliant effect. Glimmers of verdant light flicker within its core, barely perceptible through the dominant (greenish / sanguine-stained / blackened) sheen.
