Syntax
- SIT
- Sit down from a standing or kneeling posture, or sit up from a prone posture.
- SIT <PERSON>
- Sit down near the person, scoot nearer while already sitting, or sit up and move nearer from prone.
- SIT <OBJECT>
- Sit near an object that is attached directly to the room. Some supported furniture and fixtures instead allow you to sit on them.
- SIT <CREATURE>
- Sit beside your own companion or familiar. Other creatures refuse the interaction.
Usage
An ordinary object target must be attached directly to the room. An unreachable object produces "You can't reach it," while an object that is carried, held or otherwise not directly in the room produces "You can't do that."
Some locations do not have enough space for the standard action and return "There's no room to sit here." A player or creature that cannot be found returns "I could not find what you were referring to."
Furniture, fixtures and special locations can replace the standard targeted behavior with their own messages. A common supported surface uses "You settle yourself on the <surface>" for the actor and "<Name> sits down on the <surface>" for the room; other surfaces may instead say that the actor sits down on the item or use entirely custom text. A supported surface can also reject the attempt when the actor is already sitting or prone.
Most standard posture and targeted messages are suppressed when the actor is hidden or invisible or the location suppresses messages. The already-sitting person-target form still sends its scooting messages to the target and room. The already-sitting plain form and the already-sitting ordinary-object form have no room message. When a prone actor uses SIT <PERSON>, the target and other observers see only that the actor sits up; the move nearer appears only in the actor's message.
It may be easier to STAND after sitting up than directly from a prone position.
