This is one of the places where Plat has an advantage. It's entirely reasonable to say "I want to roleplay a character that's just some guy in the crowd, completely not famous." But it's not reasonable (I'll stop short of saying impossible) to allow you to depict this mecahnically, and it's impossible (I see no reason to stop at not reasonable) to enforce a complex roleplaying concept on a large playerbase.

The "you stand out in the crowd" thing is at its heart a game abstraction, but there's such a force behind running with it and such a fundamental part of how we receive information in the game that there's no real fighting it. At least it's not as asinine as "Necrobob just woke up!"
