Catalysts are the special ingredients used in Alchemy to change healing herbs into potions, salves, teas, or balm.

Varieties

There are four catalysts:

  • Dracon crystal
  • Tukai stone
  • Glaysker flower
  • Seolarn weed

Dracon crystal

Dracon is the most reactive of the four catalysts. You can make your own dracon crystals from foraged draconaeia blossoms. The crystal is actually the dried oil which can be extracted from the blossoms.

Each draconaeia blossom has only one part to it, so to make dracon crystal you need to forage a bunch of blossoms and combine them into one large piece. Then crush the combined blossom in your mortar to extract the oil. Next dry the oil in a Wayerd pyramid to make the crystal.

A 16 part blossom will crush into 14 parts oil. The oil can also be used as a catalyst. The ratio between oil and crystal is two to one (two parts oil dries into one part crystal). The maximum size of crystal you should make is 25 parts, any more and it won't fit into a mortar to crush.

Tukai stone

Tukai is the second-most powerful catalyst. Available from Alchemy Shops or dropped in the treasure system.

Glaysker flower

Glaysker flowers can be foraged as well but are not widely spread throughout the realms.

Seolarn weed

Seolarn is the least potent of the catalysts, but the most common. It can be foraged in many areas of Elanthia. Seolarn is the only catalyst that will work when preparing aloe balm.

Preparation

As with the healing herbs, the potency of the catalysts you can forage is related to your foraging skill. Catalysts are also improved by drying, just like the herbs. The catalyst must be crushed in a mortar before it can be mixed in a potion. The rule of thumb is dry first, crush second.
