Jan Taipen means "Spirit of the Clan" in the Elven language. The Jan Taipen is a Wind Elf shaman who resides in Horse Clan and is the only one allowed to touch the Sulde Taala. The Jan Taipen is also sometimes referred to as the Horse-Singer.

The word comes from the Elven "jan" (spirit), "taipa" (clan), and "-en" (genitive ending), literally "spirit clan of."
