Look: The chalumeaux has a single reed bound to the mouthpiece with a golden ring held in place by a screw. Its cylindrical bore flares out to a modest bell to amplify the sound, while eight gold-trimmed finger-holes allow the musician to vary the notes. The instrument is a traditional part of any ship's band in the River Elf clans, as the bright sound carries well over the water.
