He is a bit over average height for a Rakash.

He is an underdog.

His forearm has a tattoo of a buxom pirate wench winking flirtatiously while holding an overflowing tankard of ale aloft.

History

Early Years

Kasto really has no idea who his parents are. His earliest memory is of waking up on the beaches of M'Riss, where he spent many of his youngest years. His love for the sea and desire to see beyond the volcanic rock spurred him to join various crews departing from the Wharf's End. It was while serving with one of these crews that he first crossed paths with the Red Sash Pirates. He was captured and taken aboard one of their vessels as a personal slave to the captain.

The details of his escape are unknown but somehow he returns to the island of M'Riss with a vessel of his own. The weather-beaten schooner was used for a few years to haul supplies for the Rissans and also as a looting vessel after naval battles. He began picking up crews in Hara'jaal which landed him in some trouble with the pirate clans and he quickly abandoned this practice, choosing to stick with his fellow Rissan sailors.

Recent Events

Having amassed a deal of wealth, Kasto was left with what to do with it all. He was able to persuade the Administrator of Orders of his honest business tactics and commitment to excellence which lead to him being given an exciting opportunity, the chance to re-open the Tavern Troupe Performing Order.

His schooner has not been seen at the standard ports, and he now regularly claims crew positions aboard various ships.

A Pirates Life

As he became a more frequent figure around Zoluren, a mysterious book appeared on the shelves of the local library. Though it did not name him outright, the characters and places depicted were obviously taken from his past. The validity of the claims presented here have never been fully verified. Witness claim that Kasto himself destroys these books on sight and is currently paying handsomely for any copies remaining.

Kasto's Home

You also see a sturdy stacked stone cabin with a sign saying "Gone Fishing!" hanging on the front door.

Interior

A supple blacktip sharkskin mat adorns the golden sand floor of this small room. A fireplace built of rounded river stones, with a sun-bleached shark's jaw hanging above it, rests between a narrow rotted boat and a driftwood desk pushed up against the gilt dragonwood walls. The room holds a mild scent of sea spray. You also see a drowned sailor, a thick port hole window, a sturdy dragonwood stand with several things on it, a dark steel weapon rack studded with sharp metal hooks with a couple of things on it and a driftwood sailor's footlocker with scrimshaw nautical scenes with several things on it.

Sailor

Draped with dripping seaweed, the insubstantial form glows a faint blue-green. His skin is a pale shade, almost white and open sores cover its face and exposed flesh.

Mat

The teeth have been removed from the predator's gigantic mouth and instead decorate the flattened tail like a mosaic.

Wall

The rich gold leaf is pressed into the creases of the natural scale-like pattern of the dark wood. Built straight into the walls, a myriad of cubbie-holes provide storage for a plethora of items.

  • On the dragonwood wall you see a sun-bleached shark's jaw, a ship's wheel, a broken boat oar, a deep blue silk wall panel painted with crashing ocean waves, a shark-tooth tipped trident, a stuffed swordfish and an admiral's cane topped with a tempest sapphire.
  • In the dragonwood wall you see a rusted key, a wicker tackle box, a wicker fisherman's creel decorated with fish skulls and feathered lures, a mesh diver's belt with small steel hooks, a steel handled diver's knife with a serrated edge and a cedar mariner's case with a galleon-shaped lock.

Desk

You see nothing unusual.

  • On the driftwood desk you see a creamy albatross feather quill with a metal nib and a squat glass inkwell with brass feet.

Boat

Carved along side this boat made into a bed is the name "Last Chance." Last chance for what is not readily apparent. A ragged pillow and a thread-bare blanket make up the rest of this make-shift bed.

  • On the rotted boat you see a blue stuffed shark and a large stuffed sea turtle.

Fireplace

The smooth stones are each about the side of a head, and stacked to form a broad wall-like chimney face -- an inexpensive yet effective way to collect and radiate heat.

Stand

Set with a solid base, the dark stand rises up to three sets of bars, providing spaces for multiple pieces of armor to be stored.

  • On the dragonwood stand you see a shark skull mask, a boat plank shield, some rigging gloves, some salt-stained leathers with a skull and crossbones flag embossed on the left bicep and a sailor's oilskins.

Rack

Formed out of solid metal rods lashed together with metallic fishing line, the rack is topped with dangerous-looking pieces of curved metal that are positioned to hold the hilt of each weapon placed in it.

  • On the weapon rack you see a pirate's scimitar tied with a black silk scarf and an admiral's cutlass with a fancifully engraved hilt

Footlocker

Broad sections of sun-bleached bone are affixed to a sturdy driftwood frame using a seaworthy adhesive, creating this large piece of ship's luggage. Each of the square shaped plates are scrimshawed with a tiny scene showing the daily activities aboard a vessel and the hardships of sea life. Salt-pitted iron bands reinforce the footlocker against damage, engraved with images of merfolk and sea serpents.

  • On the sailor's footlocker you see a glass fishing buoy, some miniature cutlasses, some miniature golden tridents, some blackened shark's teeth, a shark's tooth suspended from a braided cord, a detailed cameo ring carved with the likeness of a merelew woman, a dried yellow starfish, a white shark's tooth, some heavy rope knots and an oval of iridescent mother-of-pearl.
  • In the sailor's footlocker you see a sea-green silk vest painted with a whirling grey shark, a silvery-blue sailcloth boat cloak fastened with four silver buttons, a leather sheath with bronze banding around the mouth, an admiral's sailcloth backpack adorned with gleaming brass buttons, a rust-colored admiral's greatcoat with embroidered cuffs, a pair of heavy black boots with steel buckles, a polished sea pebble bracelet, a grey metal letter opener with a salt pitted blade and a ebonwood handle, a salt-stained burlap lootsack, a whip-thin electric eel, some driftwood, a scrimshaw marlinspike, a circular hat box, a book bound in black leather titled "Battle of the Reshal Sea", a cartographer's geometry compass trimmed in silver leaf, a grey sharkskin cartographer's toolbag clasped with a brass compass rose, a battered brass cartographer's spyglass, a salt-stained tome bound in green leather with "Courses" on the spine, a wardrobe trunk secured with heavy leather straps, a teak bolt box engraved with the image of a large galleon, a deep black pirate shirt clasped at the throat with a large blood ruby pendant, a rugged leather bandolier, a navigator's logbook bound in sun-bleached canvas, a blue suede pouch accented by a beaded seagull feather, an admiral's tricorne hat and a pair of crisp white gloves.
